Manufacturing enterprises have been doing their best endeavors to obtain global competitiveness using various methodologies, such as IT technology. In order to achieve global competitiveness, they are adopting Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for competitive production. MES is a total management system that manages from the beginning of the production by product order until the quality inspection of the finished product. And MES is an inter-mediator for supplementation of information gap between ERP and inspection machine and equipment. This paper describes on establishment of effective strategy based on BPR methodology and implementation of MES small and medium PCB manufacturing company with multiple-types of products and mixed process flows.

Digital virtual manufacturing is a technology facilitating effective development and agile manufacturing of products via sophisticated computer models representing physical and logical schema and behavior of real manufacturing systems including products, process, and manufacturing resources. Based on these models, digital virtual manufacturing supports decision making and error checking in the entire manufacturing processes from design to mass production. In this paper, we analyzed entire business process of the tour major production shops such as press. body assembly, painting and general assembly, of a Korean automotive company by IDEF methodology. And then we generated a strategic plan for the systematic application of the virtual manufacturing technologies. We identified many activities in business process, that can be improved by the application of virtual manufacturing technologies.

To achieve rapid new car developments and cost saving, new approaches for automotive general assembly in manufacturing preparations are needed. In this paper, CAD and DMU technologies for design and evaluation of machines and equipments are discussed. Digital Mock-up based on 3-D CAD models usually apply in the area of concept design and design review. We focus on manufacturing preparations of machine and equipment in this paper, and suggest procedure, some examples and considerations of DMU. By applying DMU in the manufacturing preparations of general assembly, time, cost and quality of engineering can be reduced by achieving engineering collaborations.

Digital Manufacturing is a technology to facilitate effective product developments and agile productions by digital environments representing the physical and logical schema and the behavior of real manufacturing system including manufacturing resources, processes and products. A digital factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential for successful applications of this technology. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital factory of an automotive company’ general assembly shop by measuring and 3-D CAD modeling using parametric methods. Specific parameters of each objects were decided by object-oriented schema of the general assembly shop. It is expected that this method is very useful for constructions of a digital factory, and helps to manage diverse information and re-use 3D models.

A digital factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential for successful applications of this technology. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital factory of an automotive company's general assembly shop by measuring and modeling through the parametric 3-D CAD. It is expected that this digital general assembly shop is useful for achieving great time and cost savings in many manufacturing preparation and planning activities for new car developments, such as a process/operation planning, a production and material flow analysis, a manufacturability analysis based on ergonomics, etc.
