The researches on the direct drive system, which directly transfers axle load of the traction motor to wheels, have been developed as a next generation drive system in Japan and Europe. As a result of excluding couplings and gear units, the direct drive system has advantages on the bogie mount space to be smaller sized, lower noisy, more efficient and less weighted than the conventional drive system - indirect drive system. Since the simplification of the direct drive system design depends on the design of the traction motors, the researches on the direct drive system with focusing on the traction motors get started. The advantages/disadvantages of direct drive system, types, structures, cooling systems and interfaces of the traction motors are presented on this paper. Furthermore, the development of other countries on the electric equipments of the next generation railway vehicles are discussed and the necessity & requirement for developing new concepts of traction motors are assured.

The vacuum interrupter (Ⅵ) is used for medium-voltage switching circuits due to its abilities and advantages as a compact and environmental friendly circuit breaker. In general, the application of a sufficiently strong axial magnetic field (AMF) permits the arc to be maintained in a diffused mode to a high-current vacuum arc. A full understanding of the vacuum arc physics is very important since it can aid to improve the performance of vacuum interrupter. In order to closely examine the vacuum arc phenomena, it is necessary to predict the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) characteristics by the multidisciplinary numerical modeling, which is coupled with the electromagnetic and hydrodynamic fields, simultaneously. In this study, we have investigated the electromagnetic behaviors of high-current vacuum arcs for two different types of AMF contacts, which are coil-type and cup-type, using a commercial finite element analysis (FEA) package, ANSYS. The present results are compared with those of MAXWELL 3D, a reliable electromagnetic analysis software, for verification.

Since recent inverters are formed IGBT WVF inverter its switching speed has been increased relative to the conventional inverters and the motor design based on the switching surge voltage at the inverter output is very important factor. Therefore, motor and inverter should be designed to have the optimal characteristics by considering the mutually limited conditions.<br/> On this research the design technology characteristics for inverter driving traction motor is compared to the products in Korea and the analysis is performed. Thus, it is intend to re-estimate the technology level and introduce the products by HHI, which is driving on Seoul subway line 6 since December, 2000.

The crude oil pump system is the equipment for transporting crude oil and it consists of 3 major components, a motor and an impeller which discharge underground crude oil, a pipestack that transmits the cooling oil and power, and a cooling oil unit & junction box that provides cooling oil and electric power. When considering the system characteristics that it has to be installed at a depth of deeper than 100 m, a design technology for the efficient control of the heat occurring at a conductor and motor is necessary and it is the essential factor for ensuring system durability. In this paper, therefore, cooling oil flow has been calculated to satisfy the limit value of the system temperature by analyzing heat flow considering the related losses such as loss of conductor, contact resistor loss at the conductor connection, and operation loss of motor. And the operation temperature has been set up based on the temperature of crude oil and the heat of motor and conductor. Also, a design for cooling of crude oil pump system has been proposed by calculating the operation pressure loss and selecting the capacity of a cooling oil pump and a heat exchanger.
電動機 軸에 適用할 回轉式 HEAT-PIPE의 傳熱特性에 관한 實驗的 硏究

The rotating heat pipe is a device which utilises a two-phase cycle of fluid. Rotating about the longitudial axis generates a cetrifugal force field and a component of this acting along the tapered wall pumps the condensate back to the evaporator. In this study, using the theory of rotating heat pipe, temperature discrepancy temperature distribution and heat transfer magnitude was simulated with the variety of revolution and working fluid. One proper rotating heat pipe was made to ascertain the truth of the theory. The comparision between the simulation results and experimental results is performed to verify the validity of the analysis on simulation program. Further work should be performed to improve upon the heat transfer characteristics of these devices, including a study of dropwise condensation and influence of noncondensible gases during rotating heat-pipe operation.
