Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 244-254, 1999.-Obesity can be defined as a metabolic disease due to an increased state of fat tissues caused by an imbalance of calorie intake and use. Recently, in Korea by improvement and westernization of food intake, along with decrease in exercise activities, the prevalence of obesity has increased greatly. Our objectives were to study stability and effects of decrease in body fat by administering red ginseng compound preparation (known to have body fat decreasing effects in laboratory animals) to obesity patients on low calorie diets. Changes in weight and body fat were measured while carrying out calorie-restricted diets on patients for 4 weeks, then administering red ginseng compound preparation for another 4 weeks. The patients were 20 people whose BMI were 25kg/㎡ or over and whose percent body fat was also 30% or over when tested by bioelectrical conductivity. 1. Changes in weight were from 70.04kg(base line) to 67.43kg(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 2. In similar sense, BMI decreased from 27.12kg/㎡(base line) to 26.56kg/㎡(after dieting), and further to 26.01kg/㎡ (after taking red ginseng compound preparation). The BMI seemed to decrease significantly compared to the baseline after the use of red ginseng compound. 3. Waist hip ratio was changed from 0.8858(base line) to 0.8728, but it was statistically insignificant. 4. The percent body fat was 35,16%(base line), 33.87%(after dieting), and 31.68%(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 5. Complete blood cell count and blood chemisrty remained unaffected by the administration. 6. In concern to endocrinologic studies, T3 decreased from 118.7 to 98.2ng/dL, and T4 increased from 8.8 to 9.2㎕/ dL. Epinephrine showed a tendency to decreased from 0.27 to 0.25 ng/mL, and norepinephrine increased from 0.39 to 0.44ng/mL. 7. Leptin was not changed. 8. Some patients complained adverse effects; constipation(5 patients, may be due to diet therapy), fatigue (2 patients), pruritus(2 patients), flushing(s patients), dizziness(3 patients) and epigastric discomfort(2 patients). However their symptoms were mild, so medication did not stopped. In conclusion, loss of weight without significant side effects was observed during low calorie diet and red ginseng compound preparation administration. This is thought to be in relation to sympathetic nerve system rather than adrenal gland. Also, further long0term studies should be required, since the observed results were based on short-term changes in weight.

태권도 및 펜싱선수간의 운동 상해 발생요인 및 예방에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study was to investigate the variables relating to the incidence and copying strategies of taekwondo and fencing events athletic injury, The subjects were university taekwnondo athletic(n=40) and Highschool fencing athletic(n=40). In the method of this study, athletic injury questionnaire was designed for the purpose of this study researcher. The selected variables relating to the incidence of athletic injury of this study were training, game process variable, game boundary. The conclusions and implications of this study were as follows : First, there was a difference in the symptoms of sports injuries. taekwondo player were an knee joint(50%), joint of ankle and foot(50%), fencing player were an wrist joint(97.5%). Second, there was a difference in the injured parts of bodies. taekwondo player were an muscle strain(67.5), fencing player were an muscle strain(95%). Third, The time of athletic injuries for the taekwondo player were an warming up and cool down exercises(62.5%), fencing player war an exercise(87.5%). fourth, there variables relating to the injure incidence of taekwondo player were exceed activity(77.5), fencing player were physical lack(72.5%).

소양호의 어류군집 동태

2001년 4월부터 2002년 9월까지 소양호의 어류군집 동태를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사된 어류는 총 11과 38종이었다. 한국 고유종은 P. tenuicorpus, C. splendidus, S. gracilis majimae, S. japonicus coreanus, H. mylodon, G. brevibarba, M. yaluensis, M. longidorsalis, C. koreensis, C. rotundieaudata, S. microdorsalis, P. koreanus, L. andersoni, C. herzi, O. patycephala 등 15종(40.54%)이었다. 우점종은 Z. platypus(39.60%), H. olidus(39.47%), S. gracilis majimae(12.24%), S. japonics coreanus(2.11%), P. fulvidraco(1.48%), L. macrochirus(1.40%) 등이었다. 채집된 어종들의 생체량을 보면 Z. platypus가 19.48㎏, H. olidus로 8.75㎏, C.cuvieri 7.42㎏, L. maeroehirus 7.39㎏, H. labeo 6.85㎏의 순으로 나타났다. 소양호에서 확인된 도입종은 A. japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, P. altivelis, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus, T. brevispinis, C. carpio(Israeli type), c. euvieri, Onchorhynchus mykiss, L. macrochirus, M. salmoides, I. puntatus 등 13종이었다. 이 중 C. carpio(Israeli type), C. cuvieri, Onchorhynchus mykiss, L macrochirus, M. salmoides, I. puntatus는 국외종이며, A. japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, P. altivelis, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus, T. brevispinis 등은 국내 다른 하천ㅇ로부터 유입된 종이다. The dynamics of the fish community in Lake Soyang, Korea, was investigated from April 2001 to September 2002. During the surveyed period 38 species belonging 11 families were collected. There were 15 Korean endemic species 39.47%, including Pseudopungtungia tenuicorpus, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Squalidus gracilis majimae, S. japonicus coreanus, Hemibarbus mylodon, Gobiobotia brevibarba, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Microphysogobio longidorsalis, Iksookimia koreensis, Iksookimia rotundicaudata, Silurus microdorsalis, Pseudobagrus koreanus, Liobagrus andersoni, Coreoperca herzi, and Odontobutis platycephala. Dominant species were Zacco platypus (39.60%), Hypomesus olidus (31.70%), Squalidus gracilis majimae (12.24%), Squalidus japonicus coreanus (2.11%), Pseudobagrus fulvidraco (1.48%) and Lepomis macrochirus (1.40%). The biomass of collected fishes were Zacco platypus (19.48 ㎏), Hypomes olidus (8.75 ㎏), Carassilus cuvieri (7.42 ㎏), Lepomis macrochirus (7.39 ㎏) and Hemibarbus labeo (6.85 ㎏). Of the 13 introduced fishes in Lake Soyang Cyprinus carpio (israeli type), Carassius cuvieri, Onchorhynchus mykiss, Lepomis macrochirus, Micropterus salmoides and Ictalurus puntatus were originated from foreign countries but Anguilla japonica, Hemiculter eigenmanni, Hypomesus olidus, Plecoglossus altivelis, Chaenogobius urotaenius, Rhinogobius giurinus. Thridentiger brevispinis were introduced from other native river systems.

This paper deals with Adam and Hawwa in the Quran. They are the first man and the first woman created by Allah and lived in paradise. However, Iblis tempted them by saying that they could live for ever if they ate from that tree and would become like angels. They forget Allah's command and ate unintentionally from the tree, against Allah's command. But they soon came to regret their disobedience. They asked Allah for His forgiving. Allah forgave them and told them to go down to earth as vicegerency and live there for some time. At the same time Allah promised that they would be allowed to return to paradise as long as they and their children were obedient to Him in future. On the other hand Iblis was expelled from the paradise to earth because he disobeyed Allah's command to prostrate to Adam but he did not it on purpose. So, Adam and Hawwa came down to earth as vicegerency. On earth, they raised their children including Cain and Abel.

At his age of twenty-five, Prophet Muhammad married widow Khadijah who was fifteen years older than he. There are no historical materials which show that Muhammad had concubines or a second wife during the twenty-five years with his first wife. However, it is believed that he had eleven or twelve wives after losing his first wife, died at the age of sixty-five. Some of orientalists and missionaries of other religions in the west described the prophet as a sexual pervert who adopted polygamy system for his sexual appetite. Muslims, on the other hand, insist that his polygamy at that time was the indispensable example for educational, political, legislative and social purposes under the special circumstances. Due mainly to religious prejudice, the dominant Western perspectives on the polygamy of Muhammad have been biased. In fact, the polygamy of Muhammad was based on realistic consideration and multi-dimensional purposes, not on his sexual perversion. According to the program, The Expedition of The Earth, broadcasted by KBS 2, on December 22, 2002, the king of Swazilan, 34 years old, has nine wives. To get a new wife every year, he selects one girl among 25,000 girls, age of 13 to 18 who gather to the royal place from the whole country. It is said that the polygamy of this kingdom has contributed to the peace of this country and among the tribes for two century. In this sense, the polygamy of prophet Muhammad before the 14th century might be more reasonable than that of Swaziland in terms of it's purpose and propriety.

The results of study focused on protein reuse of livestock wastewater sludge are as follows : 1. Generally increasing COD and BOD sludge loading, protein content was a tendency to increase. 2. The more SRT increase, the less protein content sludge was a tendency to decrease. 3. For the purpose of improving treatment efficiency of livestock wastewater and increasing protein products, it was profitable to treat more two-step aeration process than activated sludge process in treatment efficiency and volume.
