Optimal design for the injection molding process of a hand brake cover was investigated by using CAE. The viscoelastic flow through a hand brake cover shape mold were calculated and compared with the experimental data. Numerical analysis reasonably predicted the general performance, i.e, hold pressure, cooling time and hold pressure time. In order to determine optimal process parameters, Numerical analysis and experiments have been performed for various process conditions. In this study, we increased the productivity by 160% by optimal process conditions.

This experiment was conducted with three varieties (Hicks, Burley 21, Sohyang) to analyze growth kinetics by means of growth function involving its inflection points of various phases of growth curve in total dry accumulation. The baric growth data were obtained by harvest method at interval of ten days from transplanting to hundred days and analyzed by differential, regression equation, and three model s of growth phases. Three growth phases were classified by two inflection points of growth acceleration and composed of logarithmic growth phase, linear growth phase, and asymptotic growth phase.
Equisetum arvense L.이 고혈당 쥐의 혈중 포도당 농도에 미치는 영향

The effect of methanol extract of Equisetum arvense L.(EM) on blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat and acute toxicity of EM were investigated. Male Sprague-Dawley rats(200∼250g), with free access to commercial rat chow and water, were divided into four groups: Group 1 served as control; Group 2 received STZ only: Group 3 received EM only; Group 4 received pretreatment with EM followed by STZ administration. EM did not affect the normal blood glucose level and LD50 was about 6,250㎎/㎏. EM pretreatment in STZ-induced diabetic rats slightly inhibited Weight loss and water consumption. EM pretreatment in STZ-induced diabetic rats slightly inhibited the rise of serum glucose concentration. Serum transaminase(AST, ALT) and sorbitol dehydrogenase(SDH) were slightly increased by STZ induced changes in the serum glucose level.

The present study was undertaken in order to elucidate the effects of pretreatment with Equisetum arvense L.(EM) on change in serum lipid compositions and pancreatic enzymes induced by streptozotocin(STZ) in rats with pancreatic histopathology. 1. Total serum lipid and triglyceride levels in the STZ-induced diabetic rats were significantly higher than those in the control group, and those in the group pretreated with EM but the phopholipid serum level was not significantly different in any of the group. 2. In the STZ-induced diabetic group, the total serum cholesterol, VLDL-and LDL-cholesterol levels, and the atheroscerotic index were higher, while the HDL-cholesterol level was lower when compared to the control group. HOwever, these changes were slightly prevented by EM. 3. Pancreatic lipase and trypsin activities were increased, but amylase activity was decreased by STZ, and pretreatment with EM slightly prevented these STZ-induced changes, in the histological changes of the pancreatic β-cell. These results suggest that EM pretreatment slightly supresses STZ induced changes in the serum lipid compositions and pancreatic enzyme via maintenance of prevent of β-cell destruction by STZ.

S. lugdunensis 감염성 심내막염은 국내에서 거의 보고가 없었고, 매우 드물지만 심한 합병증 및 높은 사망률을 보이는 질환이다. 저자들은 항생제 및 수술적 치료로 완치된 자연 판막에서 발생한 S. lugdunensis 감염성 심내막염 1예를 경험하였기에 이를 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. A 37-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 1-month history of fever. She also complained of lower leg pain. Transthoracic echocardiography showed large vegetations on the mitral valve leaflets. Staphylococcus lugdunensis was isolated from blood cultures. She was diagnosed with infectious endocarditis due to S. lugdunensis and was treated with antibiotics and surgery. Infective endocarditis caused by S. lugdunensis can be invasive and often resembles endocarditis due to Staphylococcus aureus. Thus, whenever this organism is found in patients with endocarditis, early surgical treatment of the infected valve should be considered. (Korean J Med 2011;80:212-215)

The conversion of fibroblasts into osteoblasts requires the activation of key signaling pathways, including the BMP pathway. Although Runx2 is known to be a component of the BMP pathway, the combination of Runx2 and BMP2 has not yet been examined with respect to the conversion of fibroblasts into osteoblasts. Here, human ligamentum flavum (LF) fibroblast- like cells from six patients were tested for their conversion into osteoblasts using adenoviruses expressing Runx2 or BMP2. The forced expression of Runx2 or BMP2 in primary cultured LF cells resulted in a variety of proliferation and differentiation behaviors. Combined treatment of BMP2 plus Runx2 resulted in better osteoblastic differentiation than treatment with either component alone. These results indicate that the Runx2 and BMP2 pathways possess both common and independent target genes. Collectively, Runx2 plus BMP2 mediated efficient conversion of fibroblast-like LF cells into osteoblast- like cells, suggesting the possible use of these components for clinical applications such as spinal fusion.
