        Development of a Chest‑Belt‑Type Biosignal‑Monitoring Wearable Platform System

        The purpose of this study was to develop a wearable platform system that can detect and acquire a soldier’s biosignals (i.e., heart activity signal, respiration rate, etc.) in a nonrestrained, unconscious manner. These detected biosignals are transmitted to a processing device to analyze and monitor the soldier’s physical status. To achieve this, textile-based heart activity electrodes and a strain gauge sensor for the respiration signal measurement were developed, and their performances in detecting each signal were verifed. These sensors were embedded in a chest belt to design a wearable platform that can simultaneously measure heart activity and respiration signals. The sensor part of the chest belt has a dual layer structure to detect high-quality signals. Stretch fabric was used on the outer layer and a respiration sensor was attached to the belt. On the inside layer, a non-stretch fabric was used as the base fabric and a heart activity-sensing electrode, that is capable of taking measurements using a modifed lead-II heart activity signal induction method, was embroidered onto the fabric. Subjects were asked to wear the chest belt, and a biosignal processor module was attached to verify the system’s performance while simultaneously acquiring the heart activity and respiration signals. More specifcally, it was confrmed that the two signals were detected in a stable. It is expected that the biosignal-monitoring wearable platform system developed in this study will be able to efectively analyze and monitor soldiers’ biosignals.

      • BEZ235 (PIK3/mTOR inhibitor) Overcomes Pazopanib Resistance in Patient-Derived Refractory Soft Tissue Sarcoma Cells

        <P><I>BACKGROUND:</I> Although pazopanib treatment has become the standard chemotherapy in salvage setting for metastatic sarcoma patients, most patients progress after pazopanib treatment in 4 to 6 months. After failure to pazopanib, patients have limited options for treatment. Therefore, subsequent therapy in patients who failed to pazopanib is urgently needed and the use of patient derived cells or patient derived tumors for accompanying testing with various pharmacological inhibitors could offer additional treatment options for these patients. <I>METHODS:</I> Patient derived tumor cells were collected from ascites at the time of progression to pazopanib and a 13-drug panel was tested for drug sensitivity. We confirmed the results using <I>in vitro</I> cell viability assay and immunoblot assay. We also performed the genomic profiling of PDX model. <I>RESULTS:</I> The growth of patient derived tumor cells was significantly reduced by exposure to 1.0 μM AZD2014 compared with control (control versus AZD2014, mean growth = 100.0% vs 16.04%, difference = 83.96%, 95% CI = 70.01% to 97.92%, <I>P</I> = .0435). Similarly, 1.0 μM BEZ235 profoundly inhibited tumor cell growth <I>in vitro</I> when compared to control (control versus BEZ235, mean growth = 100.0% vs 7.308%, difference = 92.69%, 95% CI = 78.87% to 106.5%, <I>P</I> < .0001). Despite the presence of CDK4 amplification in the patient-derived tumor cells, LEE011 did not considerably inhibit cell proliferation when compared with control (control vs LEE011, mean growth = 100.0% vs 80.23%, difference = 19.77%, 95% CI = 1.828% to 37.72%, <I>P</I> = .0377). The immunoblot analysis showed that BEZ235 treatment decreased pAKT, pmTOR and pERK whereas AZD2014 decreased only pmTOR. <I>CONCLUSION:</I> Taken together, upregulation of mTOR/AKT pathway in sarcoma patient derived cells was considerably inhibited by the treatment of AZD2014 and BEZ235 with downregulation of AKT pathway (greater extent for BEZ235). These molecules may be considered as treatment option in STS patient who have failed to pazopanib in the context of clinical trials.</P>

        외상성 뇌동맥류 : 천측두 동맥에 발생한 외상성 가성동맥류 1예 A Case of Traumatic False Aneurysm of the Superficial Temporal Artery

        A case of iatrogenic false aneurysm of the superficial temporal artery is presented. Direct injection of Urograffin into the pulsatile mass showed aneurysmal dilatation, 3×2㎝ sized, of the superficial temporal artery. Aneurysm excision is indicated to reduce the risk of hemorrhage from the subsequent head trauma, to relieve headache, and for any cosmetic defect. The authors have reviewed the literature, and discussed the incidence, classification, pathogenesis, clinical and angiographic diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment.

      • 참개구리(Rana nigromaculata) 난자형성 단계에 따른 난황막 구조와 단백질 성분의 변화

        참개구리의 난자형성 단계에 따른 난황막의 구조적 변화와 막단백질의 변화에 대하여 연구함으로써 난자형성에 따른 난황막의 기능적 분화의 기능성을 알아보고자 하였다. 난황막의 구조적 변화는 난자형성에 따른 미세융모의 수와 모양의 변화로 확인되었다. 그 수가 초기에는 적으나 중기에 증가하고 말기에 다시 감소하며, 그 모양도 처음에는 길고 가늘지만, 나중에는 짧고 굵어진다. 막단백질은 wheat germ agglutinin에 대해서만 특이하게 반응을 보이는 당단백질로서 작은 난모세포(직경 100-800 ㎛)와 큰 난모세포(직경 1800㎛)에서 다르게 나타난다. 분자량은 106KD,60KD,34KD과같이 어느 단계에서나 공통적으로 나타나는 단백질이 존재하는 반면에 특히 작은 난모세포의 난황막에서만 찾아 볼 수 있는 130KD,125KD,90KD,28KD, 26KD과 같은 단계 특이적으로 나타나는 막단백질도있다. 이와같은 결과로 미루어 보아 난황막단백질은 난자형성단계에 따라 변화한다는 사실을 알 수 있다. Vitelline envelopes of Rana nigromaculata were studied with respect to the changes in struc-ture and membrane proteins in order to see a possibility of fuctional differentiation of the envelopes during oogenesis. Ultrastructural changes of the envelopes were confimed by observ-ing variation of the number and shape of microvilli. The number of microvilli is relatively constant at the early stage, but increases at the intermediate and decreases at the late stages. Compositional changes of the vitelline envelopes were confimed by the difference of glycoproteins of the vitelline envelopes between the small(100-800㎛ in diameter) and the large oocytes(1800 ㎛ in diameter). Whereas proteins such as 106KD,60KD,34KD exist at both staes, proteins of 130KD,125KD,90KD,28KDand 26KD are specific to the small size class. The observation suggests that the vitelline envelopes functionally differentiate during oogenesis.

      • 韓ㆍ日學生間의 身體構成 變化 패턴에 관한 比較硏究

        The subjects of this study were 2,369 primary, middle and high school boys and girls of Korea(1,002) and Japan(1,367). 6 to 17 years old. The purpose of this study was to compare age-related changing pattern of body structure and body composition of Korean youth with those of Japanese, and to analyze the differences Korean and Japanese youth. The results are as follows : 1. Body height of Japanese boys was significantly higher than that of Korean boys the case of 12 fears old and older, and for the case of girls, 11 years old and older. 2. Body weight of Japanese youth was higher than that of Korean in the case of 11 years old and older. 3. Triceps skinfold thickness of Korean and Japanese couth was the highest among four regions, Calf followed it and suprailiac was the lowest in the case of boys. However, in the case of girls, subscapular was the lowest. 4. Total skinfold thickness of Japanese youth was higher than that of Korean in all age groups except girls of high school period. 5. Body density of Korean youth was higher than that of Japanese in all age groups except in the case of girls of high school period. 6. % Fat of Japanese couth was higher then that of Korean in all age groups, but LBM was the opposite case of % Fat. 7. Ponderal Index of Korean youth was higher than that of Japanese from 6 to 11 fears old. However, Starting from 12 years and older, Ponderal Index of Japanese was higher than Korean. As they grew older, differences in values of Ponderal Index gradually expanded for the case of girls.

        임신중 뇌동맥류의 외과적 치료 : 증례보고 A Case Report

        A multiparous 28-year-old woman, suffering ruptured intracranial aneurysm during pregnancy is presented. Clipping of the aneurysm was performed in 32 weeks of gestational age. Three weeks after operation, she delivered vaginally without complication. Delivery may be managed according to obstetrical indication following surgical correction of the aneurysm. The authors reviewed the literature, and discussed the neurosurgical and obstetric management of such patients.

      • 한국 Drosophila아속 10종에 대한 유전적 유연관계

        한국산 Drosophila아속 10종(D. virilis, D. tsigana, D. lacertosa, D. angularis, D. brachyephros, D. curvispina, D. kuntzei, D. nigromaculata, D. takadai, D. unispina)의 계통관계를 알아보기 위하여 동위효소와 수용성 단백질 분석을 실시하였다. 15종류의 동위효소 분석에서 18개의 loci가 검출되었다. 18개 loci중 Mdh-2, Got, Me, Ao, G6pd, Adh, Fum은 종내 변이가 없었으며, 특히 Ao, Fum은 종간에서도 변이가 없이 monomorpic하였다. 이 동위효소 분석에서 D. lacertosa와 D. nigromaculata가 가장 낮은 유연관계를 보였다. 2DE에 의한 수용성단백질 분석에서는 D. nigromaculata와 D. brachynephros가 가장 낮은 유연관계를 보였으며, D. angularis와 D. brachynephros가 가장 높은 유연관계를 보였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 보면 한국산 Drosophila아속 10종은 D. virilis, D. tsigana, D. lacertosa의 group과 D. angularis, D. brachynephros, D. curvispina, D. kuntzei, D. nigromaculata, D. takadai, D. unispina의 group으로 나눌 수 있으며, D. virilis가 속한 group이 더 primitive하다고 하겠다. 그러나 이 group이 다른 group에 직접적인 ancestor는 아니며 다른 ancestor가 있었을 것으로 생각된다. Phylogenetic relationships among the 10 species of the subgenus Drosophila in Korea, which is D. virilis, D. lacertosa, D. tsigana, D. angularis D. brachnephros, D. curvispina, D. kuntzei, D. nigromaculata, D. takadai and D. unispina were investigated using 18 loci found from analysis of 15 allozymes and soluble proteins analysis. Mdh-2, Got, Me, Ao, G6pd, Adh and Fum showed monomorphic patterns in each species, and specially Ao and Fum are the same alleles. As for the genetic relationships based on the results from the allozymes analysis, D. curvispina and D. unisina were found to have the closest relationship (0.851), and D. lacertosa and D. kuntzei showed the reverse (0.198). the average genetic similarity of the 10 species by allozyme analysis was 0.458. Soluble proteins from the 10 species of subgenus Drosophila were analyzed by 2DE method. Genetic distance between D. angularis and D. brachynephros was closer (0.168) than any other species. D. curvispina and D. unispina, and D. kuntzei and D. takadai were grouped as related species. The allozyme and soluble protein analysis showed similar. The average genetic distance of the 10 species by 2DE analysis was 0.386, indicating that the subgenus Drosophila can be grouped into two classes; the one class in D. virilis, D. lacertosa, D. tsigana and the other D. angularis, D. brachynephros, D. curvispina, D. kuntzei, D. nigromaculata, D. takadai and D. unispina.

      • Environmental Toxic Agents on Genetic Material and Cellular Activity : Ⅲ. 포유동물세포에서 돌연변이원에 의한 DNA상해의 회복에 미치는 DNA 중합효소저해제의 영향 Ⅲ. DNA Polymerase Inhibitors on Repair of Mutagen-Induced DNA Damage in Mammalian Cells

        Many enzymes are known to be associated with the recognition of specific lesions and incision of the DNA strand in their vicinity(Clarson and Mitchell, 1983), and several enzymes concerned with excision and polymerization have also been identified(Collins & Johnson, 1984; Collins et al., 1984; Downes et al., 1985; Mattern et al., 1982). In a number of studies, controversial results have been obtained on whether DNA polymerase α is(Cleaver, 1984; Collins et al., 1982; Dresler and Frattini, 1986: Dresler and Kimbro, 1987; Johnson et al., 1987; Snyder and Reagan, 1981, 1982) or is not(Giulotto and Mondello, 1981; Hardt et al., 1981; Seki et al., 1980) important in DNA repair, while DNA polymerase β has been postulated to have a role in the repair of DNA(Cleaver, 1983; Dresler and Lieberman, 1983; Miller and Chinault, 1982; Spadari et al., 1982). Many conclusions concerning the functions at these enzymes can be obtained using enzyme inhibitors. Among them, the commonly used inhibitors have been aphidicolin(APC), an inhibitor of DNA polymerase α(Smith and Paterson, 1983; Th'ng and Walker, 1985), and 2',3'-dideoxythymidine(ddThd) or 2',2'-dideoxythymidine 5'-triphosphate(ddTTP), an inhibitor of DNA polymerase β(Dresler and Kimbro, 1987; Th'ng and walker, 1985; Yamada et al., 1985). On the other hands, the studies using APC and ddTTP yielded results that suggest the participation of both polymerases in DNA repair depending on the agent used and the dosage applied(Cleaver, 1983; Dresler and Liberman, 1983; Yamada et al., 1985). Therefore, the same approach, using three differenc assays for DNA repair and two inhibitors, has been undertaken in this study with the view to give insight into the role of specific enzymes in the repair process. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the involvement of DNA polymerase α or β in DNA repair synthesis induced by EMS, an alkylating agent, or BLM, an antibiotics and X-ray mimetic agent, in CHO cells.

      • 라이프 스타일에 따른 衣服市場 細分化에 관한 硏究 : 서울市 職業女性을 中心으로 With special reference to working women in Seoul

        The purposes of this study were to subdivide apparel market of working women according to their life styles and to grasp the demographics and characteristics of general and clothing lives for each group. The questionnaire was designed to collect data for general life style, clothing life style and the demographics based on the theoretical investigations. The data were obtained from 606 working women in Seoul. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The respondents were devided into 7 groups of different life style patterns according to the results of Cluster Analysis. 2. The characterisics per each group were as follows: (1) Group I: Quality seekers They were very conservative with relation to their sex roles. They took much interest in fashion as compared with thier little interest in clothing management and purchasing plan. (2) GroupII: Fashion leaders They were very active and self-confident. Particularly, they were very sensitive to fashion and took much interest in the dependence and aesthetics of clothes. (3) Group III: Aesthetic romantists They were very open-minded with relation to sex roles and self-designated opinion leaders. They took much interest in leisure or recreation and arts. They expressed general degree of concern about fashion and clothing compared with other groups. (4) Group IV:Individuality seekers They were very self-confident and self-designated opinion leaders. They were a rather satisfied with their present lives. They took little interest in fashion but showed the strong tendencies to clothe themselves individually. (5) Group V: Clothing indifferences They showed a little activeness and influentiality to their surroundings. They took little interest in fashion and other clothing behavior but they took a little interest in modesty. (6) Group VI: Conservative traditionalists They showed a little activeness and self-confidence and had a rather conservative views. They showed strong tendencies to clothe similarly with others and took much interest in modesty. (7) Group VII: Fashion followers They were not satisfied with present lives and attempted to renew thier lives. They showed much interest in fashion and scored high dependence, conformity and modesty. Based on the findings above mentioned, it is concluded that these results furnish marketing managers a concrete and definite data of consumers, and these data are helpful to produce clothing merchandise which will satisfy the various needs of consumers effectively.

        말초부위의 후뇌동맥류의 외과적 치료

        Advances in microneurosurgical treatment of arterial aneurysm have led to increased interest being focused on aneurysm situated within the posterior cerebral fossa. Despite this, reports of neurosurgical intervention in such cases are still rare and there is no report about the distal posterior cerebral artery aneurysm in Korea. An aneurysm of the posterior cerebral artery has been referred to as a "distinct rarity", making up about 0.26 to 2.7% of all cerebral aneurysms. Especially, the incidence of the distal posterior cerebral artery aneurysm is quite rare and most of them are saccular in shape and single in number. The authors report a case of P4 segment aneurysm of left posterior cerebral artery, successfully treated by clipping cross neck and reviewed the literature, and discussed their anatomy, clinical feature, location, and variable operative methods.
