Weighted DCT-IF for Image up Scaling

The design of an efficient scaler to enhance the edge data is one of the most important issues in video signal applications, because the perceptual quality of the processed image is sensitively affected by the degradation of edge data. Various conventional scaling schemes have been proposed to enhance the edge data. In this paper, we propose an efficient scaling algorithm for this purpose. The proposed method is based on the discrete cosine transform-based interpolation filter (DCT-IF) because it outperforms other scaling algorithms in various configurations. The proposed DCT-IF incorporates weighting parameters that are optimized for training data. Simulation results show that the quality of the resized image produced by the proposed DCT-IF is much higher than that of those produced by the conventional schemes, although the proposed DCT-IF is more complex than other conventional scaling algorithms.

본 논문에서는 영상처리를 이용해서 물품을 색상별로 분류하는 로봇 개발에 대해 기술한다. 그동안 로봇에서 획득한 영상 데이터를 고성능 host PC에 보내어 처리하고 로봇은 그 결과만을 받아 사용하는 것이 일반적이었으나, 최근에는 embedded CPU의 비약적인 발전에 따라 영상을 로봇 자체에서 영상 처리 하는 것이 점점 더 용이해지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서 기술하는 색상별 물체 분류기 로봇 개발을 통하여 로봇에서의 영상 처리 가능성을 알아보고자 한다.

In this study, we evaluated the clinical significance of detecting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) mRNA in the peripheral blood samples of patients with gastric cancer. We analyzed the peripheral blood of 46 patients with gastric cancer who had undergone curative resection. The presence of CEA mRNA was serially monitored using a CEA-specific reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) every 2 months. The clinical recurrence rates according to category were as follows: 100% (3 of 3) in the positive conversion, 0% (0 of 18) in the negative conversion, 50% (3 of 6) in the always-positive, and 10.5% (2 of 19) in the always-negative category. The recurrence rate was 66.7% (6 of 9) in the positive group and 5.4% (2 of 37) in the negative group (P ≤0.00022). Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that only group variable had a significant effect on clinical recurrence (P = 0.015). We conclude that RT-PCR analysis of CEA mRNA in the peripheral blood seems to be a promising tool for the early detection of micrometastatic circulating tumor cells in gastric carcinoma patients and that it can be useful used to identify patients at risk for recurring.

The ovarian cycle, the biological minimum size, and artificial spawning frequency by artificial spawning induction of the female hard clam, Meretrix petechialis, were investigated by histological observations and morphometric data. The ovarian cycle of this species can be classified into five successive stages: early active stage, late active stage, ripe stage, partially spawned stage, and spent/inactive stage. The spawning period was from June to September, and the main spawning occurred between July and August when the seawater temperature exceeds over . The biological minimum size (shell length at 50% of first sexual maturity) in females were 40.39 mm in shell length (considered to be two years of age), and all clams over 50.1 mm in shell length sexually matured. In this study, the mean number of the spawned eggs by spawning induction increased with the increase of size (shell length) classes. In case of artificial spawning induction for the clams > 40.39 mm, the number of spawned eggs from the clams of a sized class was gradually decreased with the increase of the number of the spawning frequencies (the first, second, and third spawning). In the experiments of artificial spawning induction during the spawning season, the interval of each spawning of this species was estimated to be 15-18 days (approximately 17 days).

The purpose of this study is to examine the focus realization of [Adjective+Noun] phrases which are used in English classroom situations. In order to examine this, two production and one perception experiments were designed. Tfhe noun phrases in the first two production experiments are divided into three patterns according to the location of focus. Tfhe difference between the two production experiments is that in the first experiment the focused words are contextually given in the classroom situation, but in the second experiment they are presented in written form. We compare the native English teachers' focus realization of noun phrases with that of Korean teachers from the point of view of intonational phonology. In the perception test, we examine how the uttered sentences are perceived by English native speakers and Korean native speakers. The results from the three experiments show that native English teachers' focus realization is quite consistent with informational structure. Also, there is a significant difference in pitch range of adjectives and nouns when the native speakers give pitch accents on the two content words, and the uttered sentences are mostly perceived as well as the speakers' intentions. As for Korean speakers, however, they usually focus only on the adjective or they focus on both the adjective and the noun, regardless of the relative informativeness of these words. From these findings, we can conclude that focus realization of Korean teachers is rather inconsistent with respect to informational structure when compared to that of native English teachers.
Characteristics and outcomes of public bath-related out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in South Korea

Objective To analyze the differences in characteristics and outcomes between public bath (PB)-related and non-PB-related out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients in South Korea. Methods We performed a retrospective observational analysis of collected data from the Smart Advanced Cardiac Life Support (SALS) registry between September 2015 and December 2018. We included adult OHCA patients (aged >18 years) with presumed OHCA of non-traumatic etiology who were attended by dispatched emergency medical services. SALS is a field advanced life support with smartphone-based direct medical direction. The primary outcome was the survival to discharge rate measured at the time of discharge. Results Of 38,995 cardiac arrest patients enrolled in the SALS registry, 11,889 were included in the final analysis. In total, 263 OHCAs occurred in PBs. Male sex and bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation proportions appeared to be higher among PB patients than among non-PB patients. Percentages for shockable rhythm, witnessed rate, and number of underlying disease were lower in the PB group than in the non-PB group. Prehospital return of spontaneous circulation (11.4% vs. 19.5%, P=0.001), survival to discharge (2.3% vs. 9.9%, P<0.001), and favorable neurologic outcome (1.9% vs. 5.8%, P=0.007) in PB patients were significantly poorer than those in non-PB patients. Conclusion Patient characteristics and emergency medical services factors differed between PB and non-PB patients. All outcomes of PB-related OHCA were poorer than those of non-PB-related OHCA. Further treatment strategies should be developed to improve the outcomes of PB-related cardiac arrest.
