Simulation-Based Fault Analysis for Resilient System-On-Chip Design

Enhancing the reliability of the system is important for recent system-on-chip (SoC) designs. This importance has led to studies on fault diagnosis and tolerance. Fault-injection (FI) techniques are widely used to measure the fault-tolerance capabilities of resilient systems. FI techniques suffer from limitations in relation to environmental conditions and system features. Moreover, a hardware-based FI can cause permanent damage to the target system, because the actual circuit cannot be restored. Accordingly, we propose a simulation-based FI framework based on the Verilog Procedural Interface for measuring the failure rates of SoCs caused by soft errors. We execute five benchmark programs using an ARM Cortex M0 processor and inject soft errors using the proposed framework. The experiment has a 95% confidence level with a ±2.53% error, and confirms the reliability and feasibility of using proposed framework for fault analysis in SoCs.

B2형 N iA l 금속간화합물은 고융점이며, 내산화성이 우수하기 때문에 주목을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 미세조직의 개선을 목적으로 기계적합금법에 의해 N iA l합금을 제작하였다. M A 처리 동안의 조직 및 기계적성 질변화를 조사하였다. M A 처리시간이 길어지면 입계개선과 M A 처리 동안에 A1 이 산화되는 것에 의해 N iA l 모상에 a-Al2ᄋ3 및 N i3A l이 생성되었다. M A 처리에 의해 제작한 시료는 673 K 이상의 온도에서 굽힘변형 량이 커지며, 명백한 M A 처리에 의한 연성개선 효과가 나타났다. 파면관찰 결과, M A 처리를 실시하는 것에 의해 실온에서도 파면이 취성적인 형태에서 연성적인 형태로 변화한다. NiAl mtermetalhc cxjmpound, B2 type nickel-aluminide, is of particular interest because it combines good oxidation-resistance with a high melting point. In this study, NiAl alloys were produced by the mechanical alloying (MA) process for the purpose of refinement of microstructures. Changes of microstmctures and mechanical properties during MA were investigated MA processing for longer periods produced the grain refinement and led to the formation of a-Al2C )3 and NiaAl phase in the NiAl matrix due to the produced under the condition of optimum MA 673 K. Observing fracture surfaces, it was also fracture mode was caused by the application of oxidation of aluminum during MA. In the bending test for NiAl specimens processing time, the large deflection was obviously obtained above about found that the transition from a brittle cleavage fracture mode to a ductile the MA process even at the room temperature.

In order to give hydrophobic surface properties on carbon steel, the fluorinated amorphous carbon films were prepared by using linear 2.45GHz microwave PECVD device. Two different process approaches have been tested. One is direct deposition of a-C:H:F films using admixture of $Ar/CH_4/CF_4$ working gases and the other is surface treatment using $CF_4$ plasma after deposition of a-C:H film with $Ar/CH_4$ binary gas system. $Ar/CF_4$ plasma treated surface with high $CF_4$ gas ratio shows best hydrophobicity and durability of hydrophobicity. Nanometer scale surface roughness seems one of the most important factors for hydrophobicity within our experimental conditions. The properties of a-C:H:F films and $CF_4$ plasma treated a-C:H films were investigated in terms of surface roughness, hardness, microstructure, chemical bonding, atomic bonding structure between carbon and fluorine, adhesion and water contact angle by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), nano-indentation, Raman analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

The patient was diagnosed as pneumonia through several tests alike simple chest X-ray, sputum culture and CRP, with stroke. He got a little pleural effusion at right lung field, as parapneumonic pleural effusion. He was suffering from fever, productive cough, pleuritic pain, additionally right side weakness due to stroke. We performed oriental medical treatments like herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy without useing western antibiotics and antifebrile medicine. Through those treatments we could get very good results. The herb medicine used at this case was mainly Yuanpae-tang(完肺湯) and Chungpaehualmyung-tang(淸肺活命湯), mainly. From the results, we could find out that the oriental medical treatments were very effective to reduce inflammatory fever and to care pneumonia with pleural effusion. So in order to prevent antibiotics abuse, we have to make more researches into pneumonia and try to find out more effective oriental medical therapies for infectious diseases.

Report on 24 unrecorded bacterial species of Korea belonging to the phylum Firmicutes

As an outcome of the study on the bacterial species diversity in Korea, we report 24 unrecorded bacterial species of Korea belonging to the phylum Firmicutes. The unrecorded species excavated through this study were assigned to 12 different genera of 7 families, namely Bacillus, Halobacillus, Lysinibacillus and Thalassobacillus of Bacillaceae, Brevibacillus and Paenibacillus of Paenibacillaceae, Viridibacillus of Planococcaceae, Salinicoccus and Staphylococcus of Staphylococcaceae, Enterococcus of Enterococcaceae, Lactobacillus of Lactobacillaceae, and Lactococcus of Streptococcaceae, respectively. The bacterial isolates were obtained from various ecosystems in Korea. The isolates were identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, and those exhibiting at least 99% sequence similarity with known bacterial species but never reported in Korea were selected as unrecorded species. The selected isolates were subjected to further taxonomic characterization including the analysis of cell shape and fine structure using electron microscope, colony color and shapes, enzyme activities and carbon source utilization. The descriptive information on the 24 unrecorded species are provided.

Over time, the quality of life is improving and the exchange cycle of electrical and electronic products have been accelerating in world. Following this situation, amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in world have been increasing, and most of WEEE consists of high-value materials. Therefore, high-efficient recycling of WEEE have been necessary in world. In this study, in particular, cooperative project with Tunisia, which was conducted during 44 months, was introduced as a case study for the transfer of technique and recycling system development. Tunisia has been exposed to environmental pollution risks as economic growth in recent decades has led to an increase in the use of electrical and electronic products and the resulting amount of WEEE. Following this situation, the Ministry of Environment (MoE) of Tunisia requested a pilot project to help revitalize the regional economy by establishing a public collection system for increasing WEEE and recovering and exporting valuables from WEEE. Main targets of cooperative project were creating a recycling system and social infrastructure and passing on know-how about recycling technology of WEEE in Korea. The project was composed of sending expert, invitational workshop, construction of recycling plant, and management for increasing recycling ratio of WEEE. Recycling plant of WEEE was constructed with a capacity of 24,500 ton/year which was about 67% of estimated amount. From this plant, some of WEEE that had been neglected in the past has been sorted for recycling and increased the recycling rate. Following the results of test operation of recycling plant, 450 refrigerators, 300 washing machines, and 1,160 air conditioners, televisions, and other WEEE were recycled during 1 days and the plant was operated during 11 days as pilot operation campaign. Also, this project was the first project to install a recycling plant for WEEE in Tunisia. It laid the foundation for the exchange of environmental industries in Korea, including domestic WEEE disposal industries, and promoted the promotion of technology exchange between Korea and Tunisia.
In vivo study of paraspinal muscle weakness using botulinum toxin in one primate model

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>It has been generally speculated that paraspinal muscle weakness is related to the spinal degeneration including intervertebral disc failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of paraspinal muscle weakness induced by the botulinum toxin type-A on the lumbar spine and behavior pattern in an in-vivo primate model which has an upright locomotion similar to that of humans.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Botox injections into paraspinal muscle of one cynomolgus monkey were conducted biweekly up to 19 weeks at L2–L3, L3–L4 and L4–L5. MRIs were performed for measurement of muscle cross-sectional areas and behavioral data were collected using a high-resolution portable digital video camera.</P> <P><B>Findings</B></P> <P>The cross-sectional areas of the paraspinal muscles at L2–L3, L3–L4 and L4–L5 decreased by 8%, 12% and 8% at 21 weeks after the Botox injection, respectively. Intervertebral disc thickness at L2–L3, L3–L4 and L4–L5 decreased by 6%, 8% and 5% at 21 weeks after initial Botox injection, respectively. After the Botox injections, locomotion and movement activity of the monkey was decreased. The duration of sitting increased from 21% to a maximum of 97% at 9 weeks after the Botox injection, while stance time decreased from 9% to a minimum of 1% at 11 weeks post Botox injection.</P> <P><B>Interpretation</B></P> <P>The findings of this study revealed that paraspinal muscle atrophy affects intervertebral disc morphology and locomotion activity of a primate and may lead to an onset of intervertebral disc degeneration.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Botox injection produces paraspinal muscle atrophy in this primate model. </LI> <LI> Paraspinal muscle atrophy affects a loss of intervertebral disc thickness. </LI> <LI> Paraspinal muscle atrophy affects a locomotion activity of a primate. </LI> <LI> Locomotion activity was more static post compared to pre-Botox injections. </LI> </UL> </P>
