        In this paper, the pole placement design theory is applied to position control system of DC servo motor. The DC servo motor is modelled by second order linear time invariant system. We assume that All state variables are measurable and are available for feedback. If the system considered is completely state controllable, then poles of the close-loop system may be placed at any desired locations by means of state feedback through an appropriate state feedback gain matrix K. This design method called the pole placement. Proposed pole placement design has superior performance in unit step response. The pole placement design theory is very useful to drive the position control system of DC servo motor.

        The effects of epidermal growth factor(EGF) on the cell proliferation were estimated in normal human fibroblast and established adenovirus type 12-simian murine sarcoma virus 40 hybrid virus-transformed human fibroblast. In the presence of culture medium containing 1.0ng per ㎖ epidermal growth factor had more effect on the cell proliferation of transformed cell lines than normal cell lines. The data suggest that epidermal growth factor stimulates cell proliferation in additive manner of virus-transformed human fibroblast.

        To obtain high quality fish oil and feedstuff from by-product of squid processing, especially squid viscera, the raw materials should be freshed and have low lipid oxidation. In addition, the lipid content in stickwater produced from raw squid viscera by centrifuging should be low level. We investigated on processing acceptability for viscera in domestic and exotic squids to prepare a feed for mandarin fish. Lipid oxidation in domestic squid viscera occured less than that in exotic squid one. It assumed that exotic squid was stored at higher temperature condition and for longer time, compared to domestic squid. The free amino acids content in domestic squid viscera was higher than that in exotic squid one. The domestic squid viscera was more acceptable as feed material for mandarin fish than exotic squid one.

      • 쥐췌장 베타세포 소배양법의 생리적 검정

        쥐 췌장 베타세포의 소 배양법에 대한 생리적 반응을 알아보기 위하여 cell density를 측정하는 방법으로 DNA 농도를 측정하였고, cell density가 intracellular와 extracellular immunoreactive insulin (IRI) 농도에 미치는 영향을 검토하였으며, glucose, arginine, isoleucine 및 leucine이 insulin 분비에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 그 결과 DNA 농도는 배양후 2일째에 가장 높았으며, intracellular IRI은 배양후 6일째까지 점차적으로 증가되었고, extracellular IRI은 배양시작후 8일째까지 증가되었으나 그후 감소되었다. Cell density는 intracellular IRI와 extracellular IRI 농도에 영향을 주지 않았으며, glucose는 0~300㎎/100㎖ 농도에서 점차적으로 IRI 분비를 증가시켰으나 300~500㎎/100㎖ 농도에서는 변화가 없었다. Leucine은 IRI 분비를 3배증가시켰으며, arginine과 isoleucine은 2배 증가시켰다. 이로 미루어 보아 본 연구에 이용한 쥐 췌장 베타세포와 소 배양법으로 배양한 쥐 췌장 베타세포는 적절한 생리적 반응을 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있었다. Physiological responses of monolayered mouse beta cell vary according to culture conditons. These cells maintained normal morphological characteristics when cultured in a microculture system. Following determination of DNA concentration as a means of measuring cell density, the effect of cell density on intracellular and extracellular immunoreactive insulin (IRI) conccntration was determmed. Then the effect of glucose, arginine, isoleucine and lencine on insuline secretions was evaluated. When 2 davs old cultures with cell densities between 10^(3) and 10^(6) were compared. the increase of DNA concentration was highest in the 2 days old cultures and no further change by the 14th days. The intracellular IRI through the increase of cell population increased progressively up to culture day 6, and then slowly decreased. Extracellular IRI increased until day 8 and then decreased thereafter regardless cell density. The production of either intracellular or extracellular IRI was therefore independent from the density of cultured cells, Exposure to glucose in the range of 0 to 300㎎/100㎖ resulted in a progressive increase of IRI secretions, but from 300 to 500㎎/100㎖ there was no change. Exposure to leucine resulted in a three-fold increase of IRI secretions, whereas arginine and isoleucine caused these microcultured mouse beta cells to double their IRI secretions. This invetigation, therefore, not only demonstrated that cultured cells in the microculture system were morphologically normal, but also the system was suitable for studies of physiological responses to various culture conditions of murine pancreatic beta cells.

      • 傳統湯類의 無機質과 Vitamin 含量

        Mineral and vitamin contents of various traditional Korean soups prepared from meats. fishes. shellfishes and vegetables were investigated, and also compared with the energy requirements. The results obtained were as follows : 1. On the mineral contents of four groups, calcium were contained 142%, 122%, 41% and 47% of energy requirements(600㎎) in Yuggaejang, Juneogug, Honghabgug and Kongnamoolgug, respectively. 2. Vitamin A were contained 252% of the energy requirements in Jogigug, Vit. B1 56% in Gomtang, Vit. B2, 15% in Baechusogdaegug and niacin 69% in Dongtaemaeuntang. 3. Ca. p and Fe contents were higher in traditional cooked soups than restaurant soups, but vitamin A content was higher in restaurant soups except for Yuggaejang. There were no difference in vitamin contents of two groups.

        The nutritional Quality and their energy values of various traditional Korean soups prepared from meats, fishes. shellfishes and vegetables were investigated. The calories from each sources. were also compared with the energy requirements. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Calories were 36%, 10%, 6% and 9% of the energy requirements(2,500kcal) in Galbitang, Jogigug, Honghatgug and Kongnamoolgug, respectively. 2. The amount of energy and crude fat in the restauraut soups were higher than traditional cooked soups, but crude proteins were lower. 3. The soups of high energy ratio of protein source were Sataegug, Boogeogug, Honghatgug and Badchusogdaegug, and their values were 79.22%, 77.39%, 65.20% and 63.26%.

      • Staphylococcus aureus와 Coagulase-Negative Staphylococcus Species에 대한 Arbekacin의 시험관내 항균력

        Background : Most strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) now exhibit high-level resistance to various antibiotics, such as β -lactam antibiotics, aminoglycosides, macrolides, tetracyclines and quinolones. Recent reports describing the therapeutic failure of vancomycin for MRSA infections have arisen considerable concerns regarding the emergence of MRSA strains, which will require new therapeutic agents. Arbekacin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, has antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is stable in the presence of aminoglycoside inactivating enzymes produced by S. aureus. In this study, we compared the antibacterial activity of arbekacin with those of vancomycin, gentamicin, and amikacin against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS). Methods : For a collection of 549 S. aureus and 251 CNS isolates from three Catholic University Hospitals in Korea, minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of arbekacin, vancomycin, amikacin and gentamicin were determined by agar dilution method using Mueller-Hinton agar according to NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards, USA)criteria. Results : Among 549 S. aureus isolates, 278 isolates were MRSA and 271 isolates were methicil sensitive S. aureus (MSSA). MIC50 & MIC90 of arbekacin against 549 S. aureus were 0.5 & 1 ㎍/mL, and MIC50 & MIC90 of vancomycin were 1 & 1 ㎍/mL. MIC of arbekacin against 549 S. aureus isolates ranges from 0.03 to 4 ㎍/mL, and MIC of vancomycin against 549 S. aureus ranges from 0.25 to 2 ㎍/mL. MIC90 of amikacin against 549 S. aureus was 32㎍/mL, and that of gentamicin was 128 ㎍/mL. MICs of amikacin and gentamicin were variable, ranging from 0.125 to 256, and otherwise arbekacin and vancomycin revealed relatively narrow range of MICs. MIC90 of arbekacin against 278 MRSA isolates & 271 MSSA were 1 & 0.5 ㎍/mL, and those of vancomycin against MRSA & MSSA were 1 & 1 ㎍/mL. MIC90 of amikacin against 278 MRSA & 271 MSSA isolates were 32 & 4 ㎍/mL, and that of gentamicin against MRSA & MSSA isolates were 128 & 32 ㎍/mL respectively. Among 251 CNS isolates, 122 isolates were MRCNS and 129 were MSCNS. MICSO & MIC90 of arbekacin against 251 CNS isolates were 0.25 & 2 ㎍/mL, and those of vancomycin were 1 & 2 ㎍/mL. MIC of arbekacin against 251 CNS isolates ranges from 0.015 to 32 ㎍/mL, and that of vancomycin isolates ranges from 0.25 to 2 ㎍/mL, MIC90 of arbekacin against 122 MRCNS & 129 MSCNS isolates were 2&0.3 ㎍/ML, and those of vancomycin were 2&s ㎍/ML. MIC90 of amikacin against 251 CNS isolates was 32 ㎍/ML, and that of gentamicin was 128 ㎍/ML for CNS. MIC90 of amikacin against 122 MRCNS & 129 MSCNS isolates were 128 & 8㎍/mL, and those of gentamicin ere 256 & 32 ㎍/mL. Conclusion : Considering above results, arbekacin can be useful agent against most strains of MRSA and MRCMS, which exhibit high-level resistance to amikacin and gentamicin.         Impact of Dialysate Calcium Concentration on Clinical Outcomes in Incident Hemodialysis Patients

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The association between dialysate calcium (DCa) concentration and mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients is controversial. In this study, we evaluated the impact of DCa concentration on mortality in incident HD patient.</P><P>Incident HD patients were selected from the Clinical Research Center registry—a prospective cohort study on dialysis patients in Korea. Patients were categorized into 3 groups according to the prescribed DCa concentration at the time of enrollment. High DCa was defined as a concentration of 3.5 mEq/L, mid-DCa as 3.0 mEq/L, and low DCa as 2.5 to 2.6 mEq/L. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality and secondary outcomes were cardiovascular or infection-related hospitalization.</P><P>A total of 1182 patients with incident HD were included. The number of patients in each group was 182 (15.4%) in high DCa group, 701 (59.3%) in the mid-DCa group, and 299 (25.3%) in the low DCa group. The median follow-up period was 16 months. The high DCa group had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality compared with the mid-DCa group (hazard ratio [HR] 2.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.28–3.90, <I>P</I> = 0.005) and the low DCa group (HR 3.67, 95% CI 1.78–7.55, <I>P</I> < 0.001) after adjustment for clinical variables. The high DCa group was associated with higher risk of cardiovascular and infection-related hospitalization compared with the low DCa group (HR 3.25, 95% CI 1.53–6.89, <I>P</I> = 0.002; and HR 2.77, 95% CI 1.29–5.94, <I>P</I> = 0.009, respectively). Of these 1182 patients, 163 patients from each group were matched by propensity scores. In the propensity score matched analysis, the high DCa group had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality compared with the mid-DCa group (HR 2.52, 95% CI 1.04–6.07, <I>P</I> = 0.04) and the low DCa group (HR 4.25, 95% CI 1.64–11.03, <I>P</I> = 0.003) after adjustment for clinical variables.</P><P>Our data showed that HD using a high DCa was a significant risk factor for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular or infection-related hospitalization in incident HD patients.</P>
