Purpose: This study aimed to assess possible interactive effects of coping styles and psychological stress on depression and anxiety symptoms in Chinese women shortly after diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods: Four hundred and one patients with breast cancer were face-to-face interviewed by trained research staff according to a standardized questionnaire including information on socio-demographic characteristics, psychological stress, coping styles, and anxiety and depressive symptoms. Interactive effects were assessed by hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Results: There were significant associations of the four domains of psychological stress with anxiety and depressive symptoms except for the relationship between "worrying about health being harmed" and depressive symptoms. "Abreaction coping behavior" and "escaping coping behavior" significantly increased the level of both anxiety and depressive symptoms; whereas an "active coping style" reswulted in significant decrease. The interaction of "active coping behavior" with "worrying about health being harmed" significantly increased the risk of the anxiety symptoms, while adopting "self-relaxing coping behavior" was associated with significant decrease. The interaction of "worry about daily life and social relationship being restricted" with "escaping coping behavior" significantly increased the risk of the depressive symptoms. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that certain coping styles might moderate the association of psychological stress with anxiety and depressive symptoms in Chinese women with breast cancer.
Fixed-time Group Consensus of Nonlinear Multi-agent Systems via Pinning Control
Lili Hao,Xi-Sheng Zhan,Jie Wu,Tao Han,Huaicheng Yan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.1
This paper deals with the fixed-time group consensus problem for multi-agent systems (MASs) subjectedto exogenous disturbances. Firstly, two pinning control algorithms are constructed for MASs, which not only reducethe number of controllers but also achieve expected tracking consensus. Secondly, fixed-time group consensusis ensured by utilizing the algebraic graph theory, Lyapunov stability and fixed-time control technique. Finally, simulations are finally given for demonstrate the availability of the derived results.

In this study, 23 oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins were isolated from a methanol extract of the roots of Pulsatilla koreana. The NF-κB inhibitory activity of the isolated compounds was measured in TNFα-treated HepG2 cells using a luciferase reporter system. Compounds 19-23 inhibited TNFα-stimulated NF-κB activation in a dose-dependent manner, with IC50 values ranging from 0.75-8.30 μM. Compounds 19 and 20 also inhibited the TNFα-induced expression of iNOS and ICAM-1 mRNA. Moreover, effect of the isolated compounds on PPARs transcriptional activity was assessed. Compounds 7-11 and 19-23 activated PPARs the transcriptional activity signifi cantly in a dose-dependent manner, with EC50 values ranging from 0.9-10.8 μM. These results suggest the presence of potent anti-infl ammatory components in P. koreana, and will facilitate the development of novel antiinfl ammatory agents.
Scaled Consensus of Disturbed Multi-agent Systems with Output Saturation
Heng Lei,Tao Han,Xi-Sheng Zhan,Jie Wu,Huaicheng Yan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.10
This paper studies the problem of scaled consensus with output saturation under exogenous disturbances, that is, under exogenous disturbances the state of the agent reaches an assigned proportion, rather than a common value. The main contribution of this work is to propose a new nonlinear protocol, which attenuates the exogenous disturbances by designing a disturbance observer, so that the states of all agents will be proportional to each other. In addition, with the help of integral Lyapunov function, a sufficient condition for the multi-agent system to achieve the scaled consensus with output saturation under exogenous disturbances is obtained under the directed strong connection graph. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the validity of the results of this work.

Modified LDL-induced inflammation and oxidative stress are involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. Recent studies have also shown that modified LDL activates Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) to mediate retinal injury. However, the mechanism by which modified LDL activates TLR4 and the potential role of the TLR4 coreceptor myeloid differentiation protein 2 (MD2) are not known. In this study, we inhibited MD2 with the chalcone derivatives L2H17 and L6H21 and showed that MD2 blockade protected retinal Müller cells against highly oxidized glycated-LDL (HOG-LDL)-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. MD2 inhibition reduced oxidative stress by suppressing NADPH oxidase-4 (NOX4). Importantly, HOG-LDL activated TLR4 and increased the interaction between NOX4 and TLR4. MD2 was required for the activation of these pathways, as inhibiting MD2 prevented the association of NOX4 with TLR4 and reduced NOX4-mediated reactive oxygen species production and TLR4-mediated inflammatory factor production. Furthermore, treatment of diabetic mice with L2H17 significantly reduced LDL extravasation in the retina and prevented retinal dysfunction and apoptosis by suppressing the TLR4/MD2 pathway. Our findings provide evidence that MD2 plays a critical role in mediating modified LDL-induced cell injury in the retina and suggest that targeting MD2 may be a potential therapeutic strategy.
In situ observation of mesophase transformation behaviour and mechanistic analysis in β-resin
Liu Ben,Yan Xi,Tao Zechao,Li Xiangfen,Lei Shiwen,Zhang Dongqing,Yang Zonghe,Liu Zhanjun 한국탄소학회 2024 Carbon Letters Vol.34 No.1
β-Resin was extracted by solvent separation of refined coal tar pitch. Several analytical methods revealed that β-resin had a better aromatic plane packing structure and a higher number of carbon residues, making it ideal for mesophase transformation. The mesophase transformation process of β-resin (the formation of liquid-crystalline spheres, the growth of mesophase spheres, and the coalescence and disintegration of mesophase spheres) was observed in situ using a polarizing microscope with a hot stage. Moreover, the mesophase transformation mechanism of β-resin was investigated at each transformation stage. The mesophase content and mesophase transformation kinetics were analyzed based on the area method and quinoline insoluble (QI) substitution method. Both methods revealed changes in the mesophase content of β-resin. However, the test results of the two methods were slightly different at the initial stage of mesophase transformation and tended to be consistent during the later stage.

<P><I>Artemisia iwayomogi</I> has been used as a folk medicine for treating various diseases including inflammatory and immune-related diseases. Scopoletin (<B>1</B>) and scopolin (<B>2</B>) were isolated from this species. Scopoletin (<B>1</B>) showed more potent peroxyl radical-scavenging capacity, reducing capacity, and cellular antioxidant capacity compared to scopolin (<B>2</B>). The inhibitory effect of <B>1</B> on the receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand-induced osteoclastic differentiation of RAW 264.7 macrophage cells was also more potent than that of <B>2</B>. The production of general reactive oxygen species (ROS) and superoxide anions during differentiation of preosteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells into osteoclasts was attenuated by compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>. These findings indicate that the suppressive effects of <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> on the differentiation of preosteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells is partially due to their intracellular antioxidant capacity, as they can scavenge ROS and play an important signaling role in the differentiation process.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jnprdf/2013/jnprdf.2013.76.issue-4/np300824h/production/images/medium/np-2012-00824h_0005.gif'></P>
