Associations of serotonergic genes with poststroke emotional incontinence

<P><B>Objectives</B></P><P>Poststroke emotional incontinence (PSEI) has been associated with serotonergic dysfunction. Polymorphisms of serotonin transporter (5‐HTT) and serotonin 2a receptor (5‐HTR2a) genes may regulate serotonergic signaling at brain synapses, and this study was to investigate associations with PSEI in an East Asian population.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>In 276 stroke cases, PSEI was diagnosed by Kim's criteria. Covariates included age, gender, education, history of depression or stroke, current depression, and stroke severity and location. Genotypes were ascertained for 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region (5‐HTTLPR), serotonin transporter intron 2 variable number tandem repeat, 5‐HTR2a 1438A/G, and 5‐HTR2a 102 T/C. Associations with PSEI were estimated by using logistic regression models, and gene–gene interactions were investigated by using the generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction method.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>PSEI was present in 37 (13.4%) patients. The 5‐HTT gene‐linked promoter region <I>s</I>/<I>s</I> genotype was independently associated with PSEI. No associations with STin2 VNTR and 5‐HTR2a genes were found, and no significant gene–gene interactions were identified.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Stroke patients with 5‐HTTLPR <I>s</I> allele had higher susceptibility to PSEI, which underlines the potential role of serotonergic pathways in its etiology. Grid computing is an emerging technology that promise to unify resources and computing power in many organizations together. It couples a wide variety of geographically distributed computational resources, and presents them as a unified integrated high-end computer. The Globus Resource Allocation and Management(GRAM) service provides for the management and remote execution of jobs defined using a standard Resource Specification Language(RSL) requested by client in grid environment. However, Currently the GRAM has very limited functionality to support for applications that required special execution environment. Here, we provide a proposal for Execution Environment Information interacted with broker to support the GRAM's special execution environment.

과학 성취도에 영향을 미치는 전두엽 연합령의 기능에 대한 종단적 연구

The purpose of this study was to longitudinally analyze influences of functional prefrontal lobe on science achievement in middle school students. In this longitudinal study, 47 students(male 19, female 27) were sampled in local area. The students were administered test of GALT(group assessment of logical thinking), CTST(classroom test of scientific test), FIT(figural intersection test), GEFT(group embedded figural intersection test), TOL(tower of London), WCST(Wisconsin card sorting test) at December 1997 and 1999. It is substitute science achievement for science grade each year. The resulted that prefrontal lobe was influenced upon science achievement. Science achievement statistically significant correlated with functional prefrontal lobe, specially logical thinking level, scientific reasoning, perseveration error. And, the development of functional prefrontal lobe functions did not only linear, but also each function has differ with development speed and period. School science classroom was suited high level students. Who has been grade C and D in first-grade, they did not improved. A first-grade achievement effect on science achievement. And also scientific reasoning ability effect on science achievement.

지방자치단체 통상진흥정책의 효율화 방안에 관한 연구 : 전라북도를 중심으로 Jeollabukdo

최근 지방자치단체는 세계화·개방화·정보화·기술화라는 메가트렌드와 지방화·분권화·자치화라는 국내외 환경변화에 직면하고 있어 그 생존과 발전을 위해서는 무엇보다도 지역개발 및 지역경제발전이 시급하다는 위기의식을 가지고 있다. 과거 국가적인 차원에서 주도되어 왔던 지역경제개발정책이 이제는 지방자치단체에 의하여 지역적 차원에서 이루어지고 있다는 것이다. 특히, 경제정책의 대외적인 측면인 통상정책분야는 최근의 시대적 흐름에 비추어 볼 때 그 개발의 주체가 지방자치단체이어야 하며 지방자치단체의 정책영역 중에서도 비중이 가장 높아지고 있다. 이러한 통상진흥정책의 중요성에도 불구하고 중앙정부차원에서 제공되어지는 통상자료는 수도권 중심의 자료가 대부분이어서 그 자료를 이용할 때는 해당 지방의 중소기업에 맞게 지방자치단체가 보완·수정해줄 필요가 있다. 특히, 세계화와 지방자치시대 이후 경쟁이 심화되고 있는 지방자치단체는 국내외적인 통상환경변화에 능동적으로 대처하기 위하여 통상진흥전략을 신축적으로 운용하여야 한다.

Clostridium difficile infection has traditionally been considered a hospital acquired infection but there are a rising number of community acquired infections. We report a case of pseudomembranous colitis in a patient with complement 3 deficiency. We experienced a case of 20-year-old male soldier who presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea and fever for a week during a basic military training. He did not take any medication before symptoms begin to develop. Stool culture yielded Clostridium difficile and stool tests for Clostridium difficile toxins were positive. Sigmoidoscopy revealed pseudomembrane formation at the mucosal surface of the rectosigmoid colon. His complement 3 level was low and another cause that induced his colitis was not detected. Two weeks course of oral metronidazole improved his symptoms and endoscopic findings of colitis.

Web mining is to extract useful information for homepage management by analyzing the structures, contents and usages of web pages. The web mining is classified into structure mining, content mining and usage mining. Web crawler is a representative tool that has been used in the structure mining. Not only the web crawler has a function to analyze the link structures among webpages and accumulate information, but also it is used to resolve problems by finding out link errors on homepages. But this web crawler uses a way of analyzing based on texts, so it takes so much time and costs a lot to find out locations of errors. As a result, most of homepages just leave these link errors unsettled. In this paper, we design and implement an analyzing system of link errors on hyperlinked environment in order to improve defects and increase efficiency of links on homepages. In addition, this system which we propose analyzes the location and size of hyperlinks, and provides visual information whether a link is successfully connected or not.

본태성 혈소판 증다증 2예

Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder of unknown origin, charcterized by excessive number of morphologically and functionally abnormal platelet in peripheral blood and abnormal proliferation of megakaryocytes in bone marrow. Its main clinical manifestations are hemorrhages and thromboses. The aim of therapy is suppression of the excessive bone marrow activity, which can be achieved by radioactive phosphorus, alkylating agent, hydroxyurea and interferon. Two cases were diagnosed at our hospital which had laboratory and clinical features compatible with this disease. We have successfully treated patient with hydroxyurea and platelet antiaggregating agent.

조혈모세포이식 후 발생한 주폐포자층 폐렴에 대한 고찰

Background : Pneumocytitis cainii pneumonia (PCP) can occur in immunocompromised hosts especially such as AIDS or cancer patients. Although recent research had focused on PCP in AIDS patients, few studies have described the clinical presentations of PCP in recipients of stem cell transplantation (SCT). We evaluated the clinical manifestations of PCP in SCT patients admitted at St. Mary's hospital, Seoul, Korea. Methods : The medical records of 17 PCP patients undergoing SCT between Feb. 1998 and Feb. 2000 were reviewed. The diagnosis of PCP was confirmed through the demonstration of Pneumocytitis cainii via either cytology of brochoalveolar lavage (BAL) or histological technique of lung biopsy. CMV disease and CMV infection were confirmed by BAL culture and antigenemia respectively . Results : Seventeen patients were all recipients of allogeneic SCT and 7 of 17 patients were performed non-sibling SCT. Patients presented with symptoms including brief period (4 ∼23 days) of fever (76%), dyspnea (70%), cough (64%), and signs such as rare(58.8%), Sixteen patients (94%) had been receiving immunosuppressive agent such as cyclosporine A (64%) or Fk506 (35%) without PCP prophylaxis. Eleven patients (64%) were treated with corticosteroid with mean dose of 16 mg/day prednisolone and mean duration of 4.6 months after post-SCT period. Twelve patients were co-infected with CMV. Another co-infected miCroorganisms were Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, herpes simplex virus, parainfluenza virus, Average duration of treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) was 21 ±9 days. Four patients died, and three of them were related with PCP. Conclusion : PCP developed frequently in patients who were taking immunosuppressive drug due to graft versus host disease or were not taking TMP/SMX prophylaxis. High risk patients showing fever, cough, or dyspnea should be considered to take early bronchoscopic intervention for detection of PCP. When treat for PCP, it also be considered to the possibility of coinfection such as CMV. (Korean J Infect Dis 33:273∼279, 2001)

초등학교 고학년 학생의 전두엽연합령 기능에 따른 보존논리 형성 정도

The purpose of this study is to investigate the functions of prefrontal lobe on the formation of conservation scheme of elementary students. In this study, 107 students of 4th to 6th grades were selected from the elementary school in Seoul area. As to the research, 4 items for conservation logic test from GALT test sheet were used. The planning ability, inhibiting ability and reasoning ability were measured for the prefrontal lobe functions. About 30% of 4-6 grade students did not have volume conservation logic skills. The formation of conservations was not linear. Inhibiting ability was significantly different in level of conservation. And, conservation logic skills were significantly correlated with cognitive variables. Reasoning ability was significantly explained about 10% of the conservation logic in 4-6 grades.
