Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

Cooling characteristics of cooling jacket for spindle system with built-in motor are studied. For the analysis, three dimensional model for the cooling jacket is built by using finite volume method. The three dimensional model includes the estimation on the amount of heat generation of bearing and built-in motor and the thermal characteristic values such as heat flux on the boundary. Numerical results show that flow rate are important factors for cooling characteristics of cooling jacket.

In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

A study on the unusual spectral behavior of n-propylpyridinium bromide as a charge transfer complex is carried out in the solvents such as water, ethanol and waterㅡethanol mixture at 25°and 40°C respectively. Absorption band of this complex is shifted toward the red as the bulk polarity of solvent is decreased and also as the temperature of solution is elevated. The temperature-induced red shift is interpreted as being largely due to a lowering of the solvent polarity at the higher temperature. The dissociation constant of the ion pair complex is evaluated, and found to be logarithmically decreased with decreasing dielectric constant of solvent. The apparent extinction coefficient for ion pairs at a wave length 290nm, □290 is increased as the solvent polarity is decreased.

As a woman poet, Emily Dickinson digged out her identity in a patriarchal society. With double identity as an indweller and outsider in that society, she became qualified to grasp the whole on an individual and social level. She noticed the passiveness and destructive force of the marginal resulted from excessive emphasis on symbolic order. Simple and popular chant form was used omitted and distorted with complex and abstract theme. The tension and irony between content and form was analogous with that of being. The oppression and dependence of symbolic values through a transcendental signifier was revealed. Emily Dickinson's resistance against the Master's order was complex and strategic. Her efforts can be focused on the pursuit of circumference overcoming a dichotomy of spirit and flesh. She analogized herself with 'the only Kangaroo among the Beauty'. A kangaroo was regarded as a typical poetic example as it keeps growing in its lifetime and grassed twilight, a mixture of light & darkness. As a spiral expansion process, circumference was a continuous process to grasp individual and social totality. This process was on the road to make the dejected and the flesh recover the wholeness in society. In other words, this dynamic process was the way to revive a bodily subject through disruption and reconstruction. As one circle's periphery can be an inner core or a starting point of another larger circles, circumference meant the marginal and the direction in motion at the same time.

The effects of load ratio and microstructural change on fatigue crack propagation behavior for 2.25Cr-1Mo steel were evaluated. Fatigue tests were conducted at frequency of 10Hz, and the load ratio of 0.05, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 for the specimens heat treated in the temperature range from 400℃ to 800℃. The value of threshold stress intensity range decreased with increasing tempering temperature and with increasing the load ratio. The observed threshold levels and crack growth behavior were explained with crack closure phenomena induced by plasticity and oxide particles.

Kinetic study has been carried out conductimetrically on the methanolysis of 2-Naphthalenesulfonyl Chloride excluded from steric hindrance of peri-hydrogen in methanol-acetonitrile solvent mixtures at different temperatures. The usual behavior of maximal rate against methanol content was not found at any temperatures performed. The result that participation number of methanol is two at transition state bears out the push-pull concerted one-step mechanism.

T. S. Eliot wrote The Waste Land as a 'weeping by a leman' and as a 'relief of a personal and wholly insignificant grouse against his <matrimonial> life.' While writing the poem with heartful eagerness, he recovered from the chronic nervous disease. Eliot transferred stress too heavy to bear from his heart to the poem - stress which had come from his wife's attitude too open toward 'ivory men' like Bertrand Russell. As a result, the persona in the poem suffers from cuckoldry and sexual paranoia. He is a prince, master of a wall of a castle (ℓ.431). The Princess comes from the green land of witch called Greenwich (Greenwich literally means a green town, though). Greenwich has in front the Isle of Dogs〔??〕like a flag which seems to stand for "I love dogs"〔??〕(ℓℓ.276-277). She is a leman (ℓ. 183) of ivory men(ℓ. 138) among whom the Prince's teacher is (ℓ. 76). She appears under the cover of a burlesqued Holy Grail (ℓℓ. 198-203), or exposes herself as a street woman(ℓℓ. 379-386). The persona longs for a sexual communion with his princess in order to accomplish a new birth. This idea is expessed in the imagery of quest for the Holy Grail and the imagery of thundering to bring rain. But he fails in the long run: Datta Dayadhvam Damyata / Shantih shantih shantih, and she continues 'responding / Gaily, when invited, beating obedient / To controlling hands〔of ivory men〕. In a word, T. S. Eliot in The Waste Land laments over the meeting with Vivienne in the cruellest April, 1915, and over her barreness.

Phytol과 들미나리추출물이 Sarcoma 180마우스의 T Subset에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 녹황색채소류에서 추출되어 항암효과를 나타내는 활성물질로 보고 되어 있는 phytol과 들미나리추출물을 sarcoma 180마우스에 주사한 후 적출한 비장세포내 T 임프구와 T subset, 그리고 asialo ?? 세포를 정량하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 종양 마우스에 phytol을 투여하였을 때 비장세포내의 T cell과 T-subset은 종양세포이식에 의하여 상승된 치를 더욱 증가시켰다. 그러나 들미나리추출물의 경우는 대동소이하였다. 2) Asialo ?? 세포는 종양마우스에 phytol이나 들미나리추출물을 주사하였을 때 모두 상승하였으며 정상마우스에 phytol을 투여하였을 때도 대조군에 비하여 상승했지만 들미나리추출물을 작용시켰을 때는 저하되었다. 3) ??/?? 세포비는 종양마우스에 phytol을 주사하였을 때 감소를 보였지만 정상 마우스에 투여하였을 때는 더욱 크게 낮아졌다. 그러나 들미나리추출물을 정상마우스에 투여하였을때는 크게 감소하던 것이 종양마우스에 적요 시켰을때는 증가현상을 보였다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 볼 때 phytol이나 들미나리추출물은 종양마우스에서 작용자세포인 자연살해세포(natural killer cell)의 활성인자로서 작용할 가능성이 높을 것으로 사료된다. Several studies have shown that phytol isolated from perilla leaf and small water dropwort(Oenanthe javanica(BL)D.C, wild type)extract reveal antitumor activities. In the present study we investigated the effect of phytol and the small water dropwort extract on the T subset in the sarcoma 180-transplanted mice in order to elucidate the immunological mechanism of antitumor activity of these substances. The results obtained from the experiment were as follows : When phytol was injected into the sarcoma-180 transplanted mice(control), the levels of T cell and T subset by inoculation of the tumor cells were enhanced, but that of T cells in case of small water dropwort extract was similar to the control. Asialo ?? cells were increased when phytol or small water dropwort extract was injected into tumor-transplanted mice. In normal mice the number of asialo ?? cells increased with phytol injection and decreased with small water dropwort extract injection. ??/?? cell ratios were decreased when phytol was injected into tumor-transplanted mice, but increased in case of small water dropwort extract injection. In normal mice the ratios showed large decreases with phytol or small water dropwort extract injection. These results indicate that phytol or small water dropwort extract can activate the proliferation of natural killer cells that are effector cells in tumor-bearing mice.
