Extrinsic skin aging is characterized by the loss of skin tone and resilience, irregular pigmentation, and deep wrinkles. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Ehwa Makgeolli containing oriental herbs (Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch., Lycium chinense MILL., Morus alba L., and Saururus chinensis Baill) on skin whitening and wrinkling in human skin cells. We prepared Makgeolli extracts (HEE) with 70% ethanol. HEE significantly inhibited in vitro mushroom tyrosinase activity and reduced the cellular and secreted melanin content of mouse melanoma melanocytes (B16F1 cells). HEE down-regulated the protein expression of tyrosinase related protein (TRP)-1/-2, a key player in melanogenesis. Treatment with HEE in human keratinoctyes (HaCaT cells) inhibited the proteolytic activities of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2/-9 in a dose-dependent manner and dramatically reduced the expression of MMP-2/-9. In addition, HEE attenuated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- induced nitric oxide production in murine macrophages (RAW264.7 cells). These results indicate that HEE may be a great cosmeceutical ingredient for its whitening, anti-wrinkle, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Enriching Natural Monument with User-Generated Mobile Augmented Reality Mashup
Shin, Choonsung,Hong, Sung-Hee,Yoon, Hyoseok Korea Multimedia Society 2020 The journal of multimedia information system Vol.7 No.1
This paper proposes a mobile augmented reality mashup for cultural heritage sites such as natural monuments. Several benefits of mobile augmented reality solutions are ideal for preserving and protecting cultural heritage sites. By presenting mobile augmented reality mashup scenarios and mobile mashup framework, we introduce how user-generated multimedia contents can be added. We present two scenarios of Mashup Viewer and Mashup Maker. In Mashup Viewer mode, visitors can create new AR contents using mashup tools for memo, Twitter, images and statistical graphs. In Mashup Maker mode, other visitors also can view the user-generated multimedia AR contents using QR codes as access points. To show feasibility of our approach in mobile platforms, we compare several detection algorithms on PC and mobile platform and report on deployment of our approach in a natural monument museum. With our proposed mashup tools, visitors to the cultural heritage sites can enjoy default AR contents provided by the site administrators and also participate as active content producers and consumers.

This study investigated the association between OCS and the long-term prognosis of ACS in tandem with depression comorbidity and treatment. Methods A cross-sectional baseline study and a nested 24-week double-blind escitalopram-placebo controlled trial were carried out between May 2007 and March 2013, and then a 5–12-year follow-up for major adverse cardiac events (MACE) was conducted. A total of 1,152 patients with ACS were stratified by baseline depression comorbidity and treatment allocation into four groups: no depression (706 patients), depression and taking escitalopram (149 patients), depression and taking a placebo (151 patients), and depression and receiving medical care as usual (CAU; 146 patients). OCS were evaluated using the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised Obsessive-Compulsive symptom domain. During the follow-up, Kaplan-Meier event rates for MACE outcomes were calculated, and hazard ratios were estimated using Cox regression models after adjusting for a range of covariates. Results A higher OCS score at baseline was associated with a worse ACS prognosis after adjusting for relevant covariates and across MACE outcomes. This association varied according to the depression comorbidity. The association was significant in patients without depression and depressive patients receiving placebos and CAU, but not in depressive patients on escitalopram. Conclusion Evaluating OCS and depression is recommended during the early phase of ACS. Treatment for OCS may improve the longterm cardiac outcomes of patients with ACS.

Heterogeneous Web Information Integration System based on Entity Identification
Shin, Hyung-Wook,Yang, Hyung-Jeong,Kim, Soo-Hyung,Lee, Guee-Sang,Kim, Kyoung-Yun,Kim, Sun-Hee,Ngoc, Do Luu The Korea Contents Association 2012 International Journal of Contents Vol.8 No.4
It is not easy for users to effectively have information that is semantically related but scattered on the Web. To obtain qualitatively improved information in web pages, it is necessary to integrate information that is heterogeneous but semantically related. In this study, we propose a method that provides XML-based metadata to users through integration of multiple heterogeneous Web pages. The metadata generated from the proposed system is obtained by integrating different heterogeneous information into a single page, using entity identification based on ontology. A wheelchair information integration system for disabled people is implemented to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. The implemented system provides an integrated web page from multiple web pages as a type of XML document.

Background: Limited clinical reports have investigated the effects of maternal coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on fetuses and neonates. Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to assess the impact of maternal COVID-19 on neonates during the perinatal period, including neonatal clinical outcomes, versus the outcomes of neonates of mothers without COVID-19. Methods: Neonates born to COVID-19-infected mothers at the National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital between February 2021 and March 2022 were included. Those with gestational age (GA) ≥35+0 weeks who were born within 2 weeks of the maternal infection were matched 1:2 with a control group based on GA. The main outcomes were respiratory diseases, including transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN), respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration syndrome, the need for respiratory support, and length of hospital stay. Uniand multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed and adjusted for relevant covariates, including maternal age, obstetric complications (hypertension and gestational diabetes), delivery mode, birth weight, sex, and small-for-gestational-age status. Results: The case group comprised 103 neonates (mean GA, 38.5±1.3 weeks; mean birth weight, 3,121±397 g), while the control group included 206 neonates (mean GA, 38.4±1.2 weeks; mean birth weight, 3088±428 g). In the case and control groups, the proportion of cesarean sections was 91% and 40%, respectively, while the proportion of male infants was 56% and 47%, respectively. After adjusting for covariates, the case group had a higher risk of TTN (adjusted odd ratio [AOR], 3.69; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.69–8.07), noninvasive respiratory ventilator use (AOR, 2.28; 95% CI, 1.05–4.97), and oxygen support (AOR, 4.83; 95% CI, 1.46–15.95). Conclusion: Newborns born to COVID-19-infected mothers are at increased risk of TTN and may require respiratory support. Close monitoring of respiratory symptoms is crucial in neonates

This experiment was carried out to identify genetic resources of chrysanthemum wild species and commercial cultivars that are resistant to white rust disease caused by Puccinia horiana. A total of 190 chrysanthemum accessions, composed of 11 accessions belonging to six wild species and 179 commercial cultivars, were screened for resistance to P. horiana isolates collected from Muan and Jeonju, the main production area of chrysanthemum in Korea. A total of 41 spray cultivars and three wild species (Chrysanthemum boreale, C. yoshinaganthum, and C. zawadskii) were identified as resistant. Nine standard and 28 spray cultivars with poorly developed chlorotic lesions and pustules on the leaves were moderate resistant. The remaining 18 standard, 83 spray cultivars and three wild species (Aster spathulifolius, C. indicum, and C. pacificum) were highly susceptible. The use of resistant cultivars is one of the most efficient approaches for overcoming white rust disease in chrysanthemum cultivation. Therefore, these genetic resources can be used in crossbreeding programs for developing white rust resistant chrysanthemum cultivars.
