        이온선 혼합에 의한 Al/Cr 계의 상형성 및 전이에 관한 열역학적 연구

        Evaporated Al/Cr thin films were irradiated with various doses to produce intermetallic compounds. In order to study the first phase formation and phase sequence, RBS, XRD and TEM studies have been used. RBS analysis shows that intermixing has occurred across the Al/Cr interface and mixing variance increases with increasing ion dose. The Al_(13)Cr₂ phase is formed as an initial phase by ion beam mixing and then transforms into the Al_(11)Cr₂ or Al₄Cr phases at subsequent ion bomdardment. This phenomenon is discussed in terms of the enhanced atomic mobility and the thermodynamical driving force by introducing the effective heat of formation(ΔH) model. The experimental results agree with that predicted by effective heat of formation model. It has been studied the first phase formation and phase sequence by Ion Beam Mixing in metal/Si systems as well as metal/metal systems.

      • Enhanced thermoelectric performance of Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Sb<sub>1.5</sub>Te<sub>3</sub>-expanded graphene composites by simultaneous modulation of electronic and thermal carrier transport

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Solution-based synthesis of thermoelectric nanoplates, which provides a low thermal conductivity due to the grain boundary scattering, has received considerable attention as a scalable method. However, the scattering also decreased electrical conductivity leading to a low thermoelectric figure of merit (<I>ZT</I>). Here we employed expanded graphene to enhance thermoelectric performance of p-type Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> composites by simultaneous improvement in electrical conduction and phonon scattering. The addition of expanded graphene (0.1vol%) improved both carrier concentration and electrical conductivity of composites due to the high intrinsic p-type carrier concentration of graphene. Besides, it significantly decreased lattice thermal conductivity due to the phase boundary phonon scattering in spite of the high intrinsic thermal conductivity of graphene. The increased carrier concentration also suppressed the bipolar conduction resulting in a moderate increase in power factor and a slow increase in bipolar thermal conductivity at elevated temperatures. Overall, the maximum <I>ZT</I> increased by 45% (1.13 at 360K) by the addition of expanded graphene. A similar trend with a greater maximum <I>ZT</I> (1.24 at 360K) was observed when ball-milled Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> ingot powders were employed providing reliability of the suggested mechanism.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Thermoelectric properties of graphene-Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> composites prepared by the powder metallurgy were investigated. </LI> <LI> The addition of expanded graphene (0.1vol%) enhanced thermoelectric performance of the p-type Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> composites by simultaneous improvement in electrical conduction and phonon scattering. </LI> <LI> The maximum <I>ZT</I> increased by 45% (1.13 at 360K) by the inclusion of expanded graphene. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        반안면 왜소증 환자에서의 골신장술: 증례보고

        Distraction osteogenesis(DO) is a surgical method of bone formation that involves an osteotomy and sequential stretching of the healing callus by gradual movement and subsequent remodeling. DO is used to correct facial asymmetry, such as in patients with hemifacial microsomia, maxillary or mandibular retrusion, cleft lip and palate, alveolar defects, and craniofacial deficiency. It is accomplished with the aid of a distraction device, which is secured with screws placed directly into bone, for a predetermined length of time. Hemifacial microsomia is characterized by unilateral facial hypoplasia, often with unilateral shortening of the mandible and subsequent malocclusion. Patients with hemifacial microsomia and facial asymmetry have a vertically short maxilla, tilted occlusal plane, and short mandible. Early treatment is necessary to avoid subsequent impaired midfacial growth. The standard treatment of these malformations consists of the application of bone grafts, which can lead to unpredictable growth. The new bone-lengthening procedure represents a limited surgical intervention and opens up a new perspective for treatment, especially in younger children with severe deformities. This report describes a case of hemifacial microsomia(Type-II left-sided hemifacial microsomia). The patient, a 10-year-old child, visited our clinic for facial asymmetry correction. He had a hypoplastic mandible, displaced ear lobe, 10 mm canting on the right side, and malocclusion. We planned DO to lengthen the left mandible in conjunction with a Le Fort I osteotomy for decanting and then perform a right intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy(IVRO). Progressive distraction at a rate of 0.5 mm/12 hours was initiated 7 days postoperatively. The duration of DO was 17 days. The consolidation period was 3 months. Satisfactory results were obtained in our case, indicating that DO can be used successfully for functional, aesthetic reconstruction of the mandible. We report a case involving DO in conjunction with orthognathic surgery for correcting mandibular hypoplasia with a review of the literature.

        솔잎 발효액(醱酵液)의 항산화효과(抗酸化效果)

        This study was performed to investigate the effects of fermented extract of Pinus densiflora (FPD) on oxygen radicals and $H_2O_2$-induced damage. The results are as follows: 1. The 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radicals were considerably reduced by FPD and $IC_{50}$ value was showed the concentration of 20 ㎍/㎖. 2. The cytotoxicity did not observe by FPD treatment in A548 cells. 3. The $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage was recovered by FPD pretreatment in A549 cells. These results suggest that FPD, as a natural antioxidant, has scavenging effect of free radicals and protection effect from $H_2O_2$-induced cytotoxicity.

        Effect of glutamine on heat-shock protein beta 1 (HSPB1) expression during myogenic differentiation in bovine embryonic fibroblast cells

        The objective of this study was to examine the effects of glutamine on heat-shock protein beta 1 (HSPB1) expression in bovine embryonic fibroblast cells during myogenesis. First, to elucidate the role of glutamine on HSPB1 expression during myogenesis, we treated with glutamine in myogenic lineage determinant (MyoD) over-expressed bovine embryonic fibroblast cells (BEFS-MyoD cells). Second, knockdown of HSPB1 using small interference RNA was performed to evaluate whether muscle development by glutamine is dependent on HSPB1 in BEFS-MyoD cells. As a result, glutamine promoted the mRNA level of HSPB1, Myogenin, Desmin, and mTOR as well as myotube formation, and protein synthesis (p < 0.05). The inhibition of HSPB1 expression during myogenesis has shown to repress the expression of myogenic marker genes (MyoD, Myogenin, Desmin) (p < 0.01), formation of myotubes and protein synthesis (p < 0.05). According to the results, it is concluded that glutamine regulates HSPB1 expression during myogenesis.

        사람의 척수 및 뇌줄기 조직표본을 이용하여 디지털 슬라이드를 제작하고 이를 이용한 뇌지도를 개발하여 신경과학을 공부하는 의학도 및 연구자들에게 신경과학 학습 자료를 제공하고자 이 연구를 수행하였다. 연구용 장기사용에 동의한 시신 기증자 중 사후 24시간 이내에 이송된 시신으로부터 뇌와 척수를 적출하고 중성완충포르말린으로 고정하였다. 척수의 8부위 즉, 목상부(upper cervical level), 목팽대부(cervical enlargement), 가슴상부부(upper thoracic level), 가슴중간부(mid thoracic level), 가슴하부(lower thoracic level), 허리상부(upper lumbar level), 허리팽대부(lumbar enlargement level), 엉치부(sacral level), 뇌줄기의 14부위 즉, 척수숨뇌연접부(spinomedullary junction), 피라밋교차 중간부(middle of pyramidal decussation), 안쪽섬유띠교차부(medial lemniscus decussation), 빗장부(obex level), 올리브핵중간부(mid-olivary level), 숨뇌상부(upper medulla level), 숨뇌다리뇌연접부(pontomedullary junction), 다리뇌하부(lower pons), 다리뇌중간부(mid pons), 다리뇌상부(upper pons), 마름뇌잘룩부(isthmus rhombencephali), 중간뇌(midbrain)의 아래둔덕부(inferior colliculus level), 중간뇌의 위둔덕부(superior colliculus level), 중간뇌의 뒤맞교차부(posterior commissure level)에 대한 파라핀블럭을 만들고 박절하여 조직표본을 제작하고 Luxol Fast Blue 및 Cresyl Violet (LFB-CV) 이중염색을 실시하였다. 염색된 조직표본을 시간과 공간에 제약을 받지 않고 신경해부학 학습에 이용할 수 있게 하기 위하여 Virtual Microscope software program을 이용하여 디지털 신경조직 슬라이드를 제작하였다. 또한 제작된 조직 사진을 바탕으로 신경조직의 외형 및 기능적 영역을 도식화하고, 각 구조에 적절한 한글용어와 영문용어를 삽입하여 뇌지도를 제작하였다. 연구자들의 결과물이 전국 의과대학의 의학도 및 의료관련 학과 학생들의 신경과학 교육, 그리고 임상분야에서 관련분야 수련의의 재교육 및 신경과학 관련 모든 연구자들에게 교육 자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다. In order to present the optimal neuroscience tutorial material for medical students and researchers, this study is aimed to make neuro-digital slide and neuro-atlas based on the histological specimens of human spinal cord and brain stem. Cadavers which had agreed for organ donation for research purpose were used in this study. Brains and spinal cords were extracted within 24 hours after death, and then fixed with 10% neutral buffered formalin. Paraffin blocks were made with the following regions; 8 regions from the spinal cord (the levels of the upper cervical segment, the cervical enlargement, the upper thoracic segment, the mid thoracic segment, the lower thoracic segment, the upper lumbar segment, the lumbar enlargement, the sacral segment), 14 regions from the brain stem (the levels of the spinomedullary junction, the pyramidal decussation, the medial lemniscus decussation, the obex, the mid-olivary medulla, the upper medulla, the pontomedullary junction, the lower pons, the mid pons, the upper pons, the isthmus rhombencephali, the inferior colliculus, the superior colliculus, the posterior commissure). Using virtual microscope software, we made digital neuro-slides which can be used anywhere and anytime regardless of equipment of microscope. To help understanding anatomy and functions of nervous tissue, we also made neuro-atlas based on the digital slide images. As results, the outline and detailed structures of nuclei and tracts are easily discriminated and also matched with marks and nomenclatures of neuro-atlas. Moreover, the cytoarchitecture of each nucleus and histological features can be well distinguished. We hope that this product would be used as a useful neuroscience tutorial material for the medical and paramedical school students, clinical trainees like interns and residents, and also neuroscience researchers.

        Selaginella tamariscina Induces Apoptosis via a Caspase-3-Mediated Mechanism in Human Promyelocytic Leukemia Cells

        Cell apoptosis is now known to play an important role in the maintenance of cellular homeostasis and anti-carcinogenesis. Selaginella tamariscina(ST) is a traditional medicinal plant for treatment of advanced cancer in the Orient.In the present study, the anticancer effect of ST was investigated by analyzing its potential to induce apoptosis in humanleukemia HL-60 cells. ST-induced cytotoxicity of HL-60 cells was monitored by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide assay. The apoptosis was determined by microscopic examination of apoptotic morphology, determina-tion of DNA fragmentation by electrophoresis, activation of caspase-3, and protein expression of procaspase-3, poly(ADP-ri-bose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage, Bcl-2, and Bax. ST was cytotoxic to HL-60 cells in a dose-dependent manner. However,ST-induced cytotoxicity was suppressed by reactive oxygen species scavengers, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) andcatalase. ST caused DNA fragmentation and nuclear condensation, all characteristics of apoptosis. ST-induced apoptosis isaccompanied by the activation of caspase-3 and the specific proteolytic cleavage of PARP. Concomitantly, ST treatments ledto an increase in the proapoptotic Bax levels, while Bcl-2 expression was decreased. Moreover, this effect was attenuated bySOD and catalase. These results suggest that oxidative stress may be involved in the cytotoxicity of ST, and that ST-inducedapoptosis of HL-60 cells is primarily mediated by the caspase activation pathway.
