        A Multi-Center Educational Research Regarding Breastfeeding for Pediatrics Residents in Korea

        Purpose: Pediatricians have a significant responsibility to educate mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. However, there have been minimal efforts in the courses of resident training in Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the change in knowledge and attitude before and after a 4-week breastfeeding educational intervention among multicenter residents. Methods: Prospective interventional educational research was designed for residents at eight training hospitals in Korea. Institutional reviews were obtained in each hospital. The education curriculum consisted of 14 courses regarding breastfeeding theory and practice. These materials were used to teach pediatric residents for 4 weeks. Knowledge-based tests were administered before the course, and re-tests were administered after the course using different test items of similar levels. Test scores and survey responses were compared before and after the intervention. Results: A total of 73 residents (1st year 20, 2nd year 23, 3rd year 16, and 4th year residents 14) from eight training hospitals completed the intervention. Their average age was 30.3±2.9 years, 17 (23.3%) were male, 22 (30.1%) were married, and eight had more than one child of their own. The mean pre-test score was 61.8±13.4 and the mean post-test score was 78.3±7.5 (P<0.001). The inter-grade difference in the score was significant in the pre-test (P=0.005), but not significant in the post-test (P=0.155). There were more responses of obtaining confidence after the intervention (P<0.001). Conclusion: In our study, pediatric residents showed improvement in their knowledge and confidence level after 4 weeks of the breastfeeding curriculum.         간호실무에서 신봉이론(Espoused theories)에 대한 탐색적 연구

        As a nursing practice involves nurses' actions in a specific context of health care, this study has focused on exploring the espoused theories in nursing practice within the action science perspectives, Espoused theories are the belief, principles, and rationale expressed by the practitioner as guiding her/his actions in a situation of practice. The data were analysed qualitatively and 25 elements of espoused theories of nursing action were identified and clustered into 6 categories. The 25 elements of espoused theories are as follows: The clinical nurse worked in wholistic and individual nursing, focussed on the patient's needed, comfort and supportive nursing (5 theories of nursing goal) ; excellent skills, knowledge based, assessment and data collection, explaining, educating or a scientific basis(6 theories of nursing intervention): advocacy, value oriented, treatment, account- ability and commitment(4 theories of nursing ethics) ; human respect. partnership, trust(3 theories of patient-nurse relationship) : knowledgable, accumulated clinical experiences and personally lived experiences. positive perspectives(4 theories of nurse), role of intervention. rewarding peer relationship(3 theories of situations) The above mentioned espoused theories are similar to that of nursing textbooks which students learned through basic nursing education and almost the same as the Acts ofa Nurse in Korean. However, we are doubtful whether nurses actually do as they think. Therefore. it is recommended to review the theories-in-use in order to and any discrepancies between the espoused theories and the reality of nursing actions

        高等學生의 健康增進行爲 程度와 關聯要因

        The purpose of the study is to identify the correlation between the degree of conducts on health promoting behaviors and the related factors. 1112 academic high school students were taken for this study by self-administered questionnaire surveys from Nov. 10. 1998 to Dec. 15, 1998 in the city of Taegu. As to female students, the better grades and mother's educational backgrounds they possessed, the higher scores in health promoting behavior were(p〈0.01), the better grades, the higher in self-efficacy(p〈0.01), the better grades and mother's educational backgrounds, the higher self-respect(p〈0.05), and when the family number were 3 to 5 the highest score was. In case of male students, from the above results, economic status, self efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status are presented as the crucial factors on health promoting behavior meaning the better economic status, self-efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status, the higher degree of conducting health promoting behavior. It picked mother's educational background, self-efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status as the essential on female students, it indicating the better mothers' educational background, self efficacy, self respect, and perceived health status, the higher degree of conducting health promoting behavior. On the results of this study, I would like to suggest that we will have to conduct not only health education for health promoting behavior but also promoting programs for self-efficacy and self-respect at the same time in order to enhance the degree of conducting health promoting behavior for high school Students.

      • 마우스 임파계 종양세포(P388D_1)의 성장과 단백질 합성에 미치는 TNF-α와 PGs의 영향에 관한 연구

        This study was performed to investigate the effect of TNF-α and PGs for growth and synthesis of proteins in mouse tumor cells(P388D_1). TNF-α did not effect on the growth of P388D_1 cells. PGD_2 inhibited the growth of P388D_1 cells dose dependently. At 1 ㎍/ml, PGD_2 was shown cytotoxic effect. With PGA_2, the growth of the cells was inhibited markedly. In the case of PGE_2, the growth of the cells was slightly reduced. But PGF_2α was hardly inhibited the growth of the cells. There were no changes in protein pattern of P388D_1 cells which were treated with TNF-α, whereas the synthesis of several proteins were newly synthesized(110kd & 71kd) or stimulated (89kd & 73kd) above 15㎍/ml of PGD_2. In the case of other PGs, they did not induce any of these proteins.

        New gymnastics expressing the movement with a fresh sense has been focused, studied and developed all over the world as the art gymnastics which can refresh the expressions beyond the modern mechanical civilization. To accelerate the effect of physical exercise and develop the self-expression full of variety, we have studied the ball gymnastics which was familiar to us and able to treat easily from the childhood. Results from the study of ball gymnastics are as follows. 1. The ball gymnastics can be divided into swing, balance, jump, toss and catch, bounce, roll, spin, supination and swing, and it can also be analysed into 35 different items as the following figures. 2. After ball exercise, the examination of results shows the following in good record order; balance, bounce, roll, swing, spin, supination and swing, jump, toss and catch. 3. The structure of the expressive exercise with ball can be classified into three steps as follows. 1st step: Exact analysis and training of various exercises. 2nd step: Structuring and performing of the personal movements. 3rd step: Beautiful decoration of the given plane and space using the property of the ball. ◁그림 삽입▷(원본을 참조하세요) 4. The students who major in dancing were highest in understanding and ability of the expressive exercise with ball at M=1.47, 5. In the performance frequency of the structure of expressive exercise with ball, toss ant catch was highest as 26,09% and the next orders . are balance, jump, roll, swing, bounce, supination and swing, and spin, 6. In the movement of plane and space, the expressive exercise was performed in the center by 41.67% and was highest, the diagonal movement was most in the direction from left back to right front and in circular movement was highest the frequency of C.C.W.

        노인의 성 지식과 태도 및 교육요구

        knowledge, attitudes, and educational needs for sexuality of the elderly. Method: This was a descriptive study, in which data were collected from February to April 2002 from 354 elderly who were residing in Chung-Chung province. Result: 1. The level of knowledge regarding sexuality was below average. 2. The level of the attitudes toward sexuality of the elderly was neither positive nor negative. 3. The educational needs of the elderly were above average. 4. Higher level of knowledge on sexuality was significantly correlated with more positive attitudes and education needs for sexuality, and more positive attitudes toward sexuality was significantly correlated with more educational needs for sexuality. Conclusion: Particularly men, with good health, and those who were in intimate relationships with their spouses and still engaged with active sexual life showed somewhat higher level of knowledge and positive attitudes as well as higher educational needs. Therefore, further development and applying of sexuality promotion programs for healthy elder couples should be considered in the future to enhance the quality of life of elder population. In addition, it is also suggested to develop an alternative intervention program on sexuality for elderly who are women, those with meager health, and the bereaved.

      • 全南 南部와 西部海域의 海洋物理, 化學的 特性

        Seasonal variations of physico-chemical factors were studied in both southern and western coastal waters of Chon Nam Province during a decade from 1971 to 1980. The variation of water temperature in the investigated areas was within the range of 3.6-27℃ throughout the research period. The temperature of western coastal water was lower than that of southern coastal water by 2∼4℃ in February. In spring and summer, water temperature of Jindo-Jodo area was characteristically lower than any other area by 1.0∼1.5℃. The aslinity varied within the range of 25.97∼34.32%0 throughout the research period, and showed its maximum value in February and its minimum in September. Western coastal water was always less saline than southern coastal water. Dissolved oxygen varied widely within the range of 4.25∼58.75㎖/ℓ,and showed the lowest value in September and the highest in February. Concentrations of nitrite, Phosphate, and silicate varied within the range of 0.01∼2.96 ㎍-at/ℓ, 0.06∼2.07㎍-at/ℓ, and 2.13∼29.-01 ㎍-at/ℓ, respectively. Nitrite and silicate reached their maximum concentrations in summer but phosphate reached its maximum concentration in winter. These nutrients appeared abundantly in Sinan-Mokpo area and Waned-Kangjin area, under influence of the Yongsan liver and the Tamijin liver, respectively. Transparency of waters in the investigated areas varied within the range of 0.1∼5.0m with the tendency of being lower in southern coastal area than in southern coastal area than in western coastal area. Maximum value of transparency appeared in summer, and minimum value in winter.

        간호사의 임상 실무 경험

        purpose: This study was conducted to describe qualitatively the entities of nurse's experiences in general hospitals and to suggest basic data guiding research on developing Standards of clinical nursing practice in Korea. Method: Fourteen nurses working at general hospitals with over 300 beds in Seoul were interviewed in-depth until saturation using tape-recorders and transcription. Result: The central theme of clinical nursing practice experienced by subjects was "being with clients" that means accepting client's personal character, solving client's needs and providing client-centered nursing. A also "being with clients" was felt to be the responsibility of nurses which was learned from their nursing schools. The nursing strategies performed in order to be with patients were proving skillful nursing techniques, accepting, educating, emotional support, advocating, and self-reflecting, the subjects experienced somewhat problematic affects such as difficulties in interpersonal relationship, work overload, negative image of nursing, deficit of self-confidence for nursing actions, poor working conditions, and unfair treatment. Nurses at the hospital practiced with pride when they felt that they were accepted by clients. Conclusion: Further research is needed to analysis problems in clinical practice and the comparison of nurses' experiences of clinical practice, with nurses' experiences in various settings.
