Effect of six sugars on the longevity, oviposition performance and nutrition accumulation in an endoparasitoid, Meteorus pulchricornis (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

        Sheng Sheng,Xiaorui Zhang,Yu Zheng,Jiao Wang,Yu Zhou,Chengwu Liao,Jun Wang,Fu-an Wu 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.1

The effects of six sugar resources (fructose, glucose, sucrose, trehalose, raffinose and honey) on the longevity, oviposition performance and nutrition levels of Meteorus pulchricornis, a thelytokous larval endoparasitoid of the common cutworm Spodoptera litura were examined under laboratory conditions. Female adults of M. pulchricornis fed 1 M fructose, glucose, trehalose or sucrose solutions survived longer than those fed on other sugar solutions or water. When provided with honey or sucrose solutions, the female parasitoids laid more offspring than those fed other sugar diets or the control. The body size of offspring driven from honey-, fructose-, sucrose-, and glucose-fed females, along with water-fed group, were larger than the trehalose- and raffinose-fed females. However, the emergence rates of all offspring generated from different sugars- and water-fed females were similar. When separately given honey, sucrose or fructose, M. pulchricornis females accumulated fructose at a higher level than the other groups. Parasitoid wasps fed trehalose solution accumulated the highest level of total sugar. Glycogen levels and lipid content were highest at emergence and then decreased across all diets. In addition, females fed on trehalose had the highest level of glycogen compared to other sugar diets and water control regardless of emergency level. Females fed trehalsoe, fructose, and glucose solutions had a higher level of lipid than those fed other sugar solutions and water at life end. The outcome of this study can benefit both laboratory rearing and management interventions that improve sugar sources for the parasitoid in the field.

ELECTROCHEMICAL Co 3 O 4 NANOPOROUS THIN FILMS SENSOR FOR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DETECTION

        GUANG SHENG CAO,RUILIN WANG,PEILONG WANG,XIN LI,YUE WANG,JUNPING LI,GUILONG WANG 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2014 NANO Vol.9 No.4

The nanoporous Co 3 O 4 thin ¯lms were prepared on indium tin oxide (ITO) glasses by anelectrodeposition method. The surface morphology and composition of the nanoporous Co 3 O 4¯lms were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-rayanalysis (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that the as-deposited nanoporous Co 3 O 4 ¯lm is constructed by many interconnected nano°akes withthickness of about 40 nm. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement indicates that thenanoporous Co 3 O 4 ¯lms exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activities for the hydrogen peroxide(H 2 O 2 ) reduction which shows that it is a good candidate to be employed as electrode materialsfor electrochemical sensing of H 2 O 2 . Further analysis indicated that the detection sensitivityof the sensor was 1.357 mA mM? 1 cm? 2 and the detection limit was estimated to be about0.2 mM.

The Effect of Agomelatine in Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia

        Carol Sheei-Meei Wang(Carol Sheei-Meei Wang ),Kuo-Sheng Cheng(Kuo-Sheng Cheng),Chia-Hung Tang(Chia-Hung Tang),Ming-Chyi Pai(Ming-Chyi Pai),Pai-Lien Chen(Pai-Lien Chen),Pei-Fang Chien(Pei-Fang Chien) 대한정신약물학회 2022 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.20 No.4

Objective: Moderate and severe behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) often need medical treatment to improve symptoms. Agomelatine is a selective melatonergic (MT1/MT2) agonist that has normalizing effects on disturbed circadian rhythms and disrupted sleep−wake cycles. Its activity of 5HT-2C receptor antagonism is associated with lessening depression and anxiety and increasing slow-wave sleep. Based on past clinical records and current findings it suggests that agomelatine can improve BPSD for patients. This retrospective cohort study was designed to compare the BPSD before and after using agomelatine. Methods: Records of dementia cases who had ever received agomelatine treatment for BPSD in a general hospital setting during the past 2.5 years were identified and reviewed. Scores from before and after 3 months of treatment with agomelatine were collected for Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), and Clinical Global Impression (CGI) to compare and analyze the difference of psychological and behavioral symptoms pre- and post-agomelatine used. Results: Records of 144 cases of dementia with BPSD who had ever used agomelatine from January 2015 to June 2017 were collected. All of the 112 cases had BPRS and CGI scores, of which 75 cases had additional NPI scores. Among these 112 cases, the BPRS and CGI scores were significantly improved in all types of dementia. NPI scores indicated that the use of agomelatine alleviated obvious symptoms and decreased overall distress, especially in the depression/poor mood, anxiety, and sleep/night behavior. Conclusion: It is consistent with an effective result of agomelatine in improving BPSD.

Parkinson’s Disease with Fatigue: Clinical Characteristics and Potential Mechanisms Relevant to α-Synuclein Oligomer

        Li-Jun Zuo,Shu-Yang Yu,Fang Wang,Yanghui Xia,Ying-Shan Piao,Yang Du,Teng-Hong Lian,Rui-Dan Wang,Qiu-Jin Yu,Ya-Jie Wang,Xiao-Min Wang,Piu Chan,Sheng-Di Chen,Yongjun Wang,Wei Zhang 대한신경과학회 2016 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.12 No.2

Background and Purpose The aim of this study was to identify the clinical characteristics and potential mechanisms relevant to pathological proteins in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients who experience fatigue. Methods PD patients (n=102) were evaluated using a fatigue severity scale and scales for motor and nonmotor symptoms. The levels of three pathological proteins—α-synuclein oligomer, β-amyloid (Aβ)1-42, and tau—were measured in 102 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from these PD patients. Linear regression analyses were performed between fatigue score and the CSF levels of the above-listed pathological proteins in PD patients. Results The frequency of fatigue in the PD patients was 62.75%. The fatigue group had worse motor symptoms and anxiety, depression, and autonomic dysfunction. The CSF level of α-synuclein oligomer was higher and that of Aβ1-42 was lower in the fatigue group than in the non-fatigue group. In multiple linear regression analyses, fatigue severity was significantly and positively correlated with the α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF of PD patients, after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions PD patients experience a high frequency of fatigue. PD patients with fatigue have worse motor and part nonmotor symptoms. Fatigue in PD patients is associated with an increased α-synuclein oligomer level in the CSF

Self-assembly and Mechanism of L-Alanine-based Dihydrazide Derivative as Excellent Gelator of Organic Solvents

        Wang, Chuan-Sheng,Wang, Xiao-Hong,Li, Zhi-Yuan,Wei, Wei,Shi, Zhong-Liang,Sui, Zhi-Tong Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.4

A new organogelator, L-Alanine dihydrazide derivative can self-assemble in various organic solvents and turned them into thermally reversible physical supramolecular organogels at extremely low concentrations (< 2 wt %). The gel-sol phase transition temperatures ($T_{GS}$) were determined as a function of gelator concentration and the corresponding enthalpies (${\Delta}H_g$) were extracted. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements revealed that the interspaces of fiber-like network structures were diminished with the increasing of the LMOG concentration. FT-IR spectroscopy studies revealed that hydrogen-bonding and hydrophobic interaction were the driving forces for the formation of the gels. Based on the data of XRD and molecular modeling, the possible packing modes for the formation of organogelator aggregates were proposed.

Single-Source Precursor Route for Synthesis of High-Quality Green-emitting Quantum Dots and Their Hydrophilic Surface Modification

        Sheng Wang,Yanbing Lv,Ruili Wu,Lin Song Li,Huaibin Shen,Ming Xing,Xia Chen 대한화학회 2017 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.38 No.7

The high-quality green-emitting CdS0 . 5Se0 .5/8Zn1 − x Cd x S/2ZnS QDs with “8” and “2” monolayers (ML) of corresponding shell were first synthesized by “thermal-cycling coupled single precursor” (TC-SP) approach. The component-gradient Zn1− x Cd x S interlayer played a key role in the growth of thick shell by gradually buffering the large lattice mismatch (~9%) between the CdS0 . 5Se0 .5 core and ZnS shell. Moreover, the Zn1− x Cd x S gradient interlayer as well as ZnS outshell increased the potential barrier to prevent excitons from being trapped by surface defects. The photoluminescence quantum yields of the as-synthesized CdS0 . 5Se0 .5/8Zn1 − x Cd x S/2ZnS core/shell QDs can reach to 70% in organic media and still maintain 60% after aqueous phase transfer. The green-emitting CdS0 . 5Se0 .5/8Zn1 − x Cd x S/2ZnS core/shell QDs may be good candidates for applications of biomedical and photoelectric field.

Recommended levels of calcium and non-phytate phosphorus for yellow-feathered broilers (finisher phase)

        Wang Yibing,Wang Weiwei,Zhang Sheng,Jiang shouqun 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.12

Objective: This study examined the effects of dietary calcium (Ca) and non-phytate phosphorus (NPP) on performance, tibial characteristics, meat quality and plasma biochemical variables in yellow-feathered broilers during 85 to 105 d of age. Methods: A total of 720 heads of 85-d broilers were allocated into 9 groups and provided with three levels of Ca (0.65%, 0.75%, 0.85%), and NPP (0.25%, 0.30%, 0.35%) in diets for 21 d. Results: The final body weight (FW), average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), and feed to gain ratio (F:G) were affected (p<0.05) by dietary Ca. From the quadratic regressions, the optimal level of Ca in diet were 0.71% for FW and ADG, and 0.67% for ADFI. Dietary Ca and NPP both significantly affected tibial breaking strength and density. From the quadratic regressions, the optimal level of Ca and NPP in diet were 0.81% and 0.37% for tibial density. The shear force of breast muscle of broilers given 0.75% or 0.85% Ca were lower than that in birds with 0.65% Ca and drip loss of birds given 0.65% or 0.75% Ca was lower than that in birds with 0.85% Ca (p<0.05). The drip loss of birds given 0.25% NPP was lowest among all NPP treatments (p<0.05). Calcium affected (p<0.05) the plasmal contents of phosphorus, osteocalcin (OC), parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcitonin and the contents of OC and PTH were also influenced by dietary NPP. Conclusion: Dietary Ca and NPP level affected tibial characteristics, meat quality and biochemical variables in plasma of finisher-phase yellow-feathered broilers (85 to 105 d) and Ca also affected growth performance. Dietary 0.71% Ca and 0.30% NPP were enough for growth performance, while considering the growth performance, tibial characteristics, meat quality and biochemical variables together, 0.75% Ca and 0.37% NPP were recommended. Pre-transplant Dementia is Associated with Poor Survival After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A Nationwide Cohort Study with Propensity Score Matched Control

        Sheng-Min Wang,Sung-Soo Park,See Hyun Park,Nak-Young Kim,Dong Woo Kang,Hae-Ran Na,Young-Yi Bae,Jong Wook Lee,Seunghoon Han,Hyun Kook Lim 대한정신약물학회 2021 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.19 No.2

Objective: No previous study examined impact of dementia in the outcome of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell trans-plantation (HSCT). We aimed to investigate overall survival (OS) of patients with dementia after receiving HSCT. Methods: Among 8,230 patients who underwent HSCT between 2002 and 2018, 5,533 patients younger than 50 years were first excluded. Remaining patients were divided into those who were and were not diagnosed with dementia before HSCT (dementia group: n = 31; no dementia: n = 2,666). Thereafter, among 2,666 participants without dementia, 93 patients were selected via propensity-matched score as non-dementia group. Patients were followed from the day they received HSCT to the occurrence of death or the last follow-up day (December 31, 2018), whichever came first. Results: With median follow-up of 621 days for dementia group and 654 days for non-dementia group, 2 year-OS of dementia group was lower than that of non-dementia group (53.3% [95% confidence interval, 95% CI, 59.0−80.2%] vs. 68.8% [95% CI, 38.0−68.2%], p = 0.076). In multivariate analysis, dementia had significant impacts on OS (hazard risk = 2.539, 95% CI, 1.166−4.771, p = 0.017). Conclusion: Our results indicated that patients diagnosed with dementia before HSCT have 2.539 times higher risk of mortality after transplantation than those not having dementia. With number of elderly needing HSCT is increasing, further work to establish treatment guidelines for the management of HSCT in people with dementia is needed.

Ultra-precision Ductile Grinding of Off-Axis Biconical Free-Form Optics with a Controllable Scallop Height Based on Slow Tool Servo with Diamond Grinding Wheels

Sheng Wang,Qingliang Zhao,Bing Guo 한국정밀공학회 2023 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.10 No.5

Free-form optics made of hard and brittle materials possesses the reflection and imaging functions that are difficult to be achieved by traditional optics and are widely used in various high energy space optical systems. However, free-form optics made of hard and brittle materials poses great challenges to ultra-precision machining due to its extreme demands of complex surface shapes with nonrotational asymmetric, submicron profile accuracy, controllable scallop height, nanometer surface roughness and ductile grinding surfaces. The freeform generation technique of the slow tool servo with diamond grinding wheel (STS-DGW) previously proposed by us was used to manufacture free-form optics made of hard and brittle materials. First, a theoretical model of scallop height during grinding of biconical free-form surface was established, and the effects of curvature changes on scallop height were studied. Subsequently, the profile error caused by the centering error of diamond wheel was calculated theoretically, and an accurate adjustment method of the grinding wheel position was proposed. Then, an undeformed chip thickness model for achieving ductile grinding was established, and the simulation calculation of critical grinding parameters was carried out. Ultimately, a typical off-axis biconical free-form optics with submicron profile accuracy, a controllable scallop height, nanometer surface roughness, and ductile grinding surfaces was successfully fabricated on single-crystal silicon using the proposed STS-DGW. Compared with the previous research, the profile accuracy was further improved, a controllable scallop height and ductile grinding surface was achieved.
