        The production of hydrogen fuel depends basically on the water electrolysis. The study on the overpotential which activates the hydrogen production is the core to elevate the hydrogen production efficiency on the principle. Characteristics according to the macroscopic effects of the ultrasonic are extracted to elevate the hydrogen production efficiency through measuring the hydrogen production quantity by using the electrolytic cell of the Hoffmann manner. For the above, several devices for measuring by new ideas are developed and applied. Characteristics on the overpotential decrease and the Debye phenomena are observed through the micro reaction by ultrasonic in electrolytic cell. For the above, the electrochemical analyzer, i.e., BAS is applied. Experiments with ultrasonic forcing into 4 kinds of solution such as city water, city water plus nitrogen, distilled water, and distilled water plus nitrogen are carried out. Various methods of ultrasonic forcing such as the improving method, the direct vibrating method, the indirect vibrating method, and etc., are applied as the transmissible method of ultrasonic force. The data base is constructed to design a new ultrasonic modern electrolyzer by using all the above data.

      • 농촌지역 노인들의 우울증상에 관련된 요인들의 특성

        This study was performed to identify risk factors for depression among the elderly in a rural area. A survey was done for the elderly living in Gosam-myenn, Ansung-kun during the period of July 28, 1997 and July 30, 1997. Demographic and sodoeconornic characteristics, and functional and health Status were assessed using a structured questionnaire, and the level of depression was measured by GDS score. The data obtained were analyzed by frequencies, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression, and the results were as follows: 1. The total sample consisted of 133 elderly. Of them, 47 elderly (35.4%) showed significant depressive Symptoms. 2. The GDS score was the highest for the group over 85 years of age (p < 0.05). Those living alone or widowed showed lower GDS score than those living with someone or married (p < 0.05). 3. The GDS score was the highest in the absolutely dependent group, followed by the partially dependent group, and the independent group (p < 0.01). The elderly who perceived their health Status as excellent showed the lowest GDS score. In contrast, those who had more than five chronic diseases showed the highest GDS score. 4. The elderly receiving financial and emotional support from their family or friends showed lower GDS score compared to those without any support. 5. The economically dependent group showed higher GDS score than that of independent group. 6. The elderly who involved in leisure activities showed lower GDS score than those without any involvement. 7. In terms of risk factors for depression, we found that perceived health Status, subjective economic Status, leisure activities, living arrangement and financial support were inversely associated with GDS score, whereas labor support was positively associated with GDS score. Based upon the above findings, this study suggests that these risk factors for depression in the elderly should be taken into consideration for a comprehensive mental health program for the elderly living in the rural area.

        중증 두부 손상 환자의 예후 인자에 대한 임상 분석 : Clinical Prognostic Factors

        A clinical analysis was carried out retrospectively with 54 cases of severe head injured patients(Glasgow Coma Scale score 3 to 8) in identify prognostic factors. Unawareness for over 1 month, abnormal pupillary reaction, abnormal motor response pattern, and diffuse head injury with basal cisternal compression prove to be the most reliable predictors. Individual predictions of outcome provide a powerful tool for assessing the relative efficacy of alternative treatments.

        Subdural empyema is relatively uncommon condition. characterized by purulent collection in the subdural space. Having presented a fulminating clinical course with very high morbidity and mortality. it is conconsidered as a neurosurgical emergency. In recent years, the mortality of subdural empyema has significantly diminished due to rapid diagnosis, aggressive antibiotic therapy and timely surgical intervention. The condition remains a diagnostic challenge ; CT scanning cannot be relied upon although the use of intravenous contrast and more modem scanner has improved the diagnostic yield. MRI offers earlier and more accurate diagnosis of computed tomographically suspected lesion. We report cases of subdural empyemas. which were diagnosed with MR and operaton. We treated one case successfully and the other postoperative case unsuccessfully owing to a delayed diagnosis.

      • 기름골의 품질관련 특성 평가 : Cyperus esculentus L., var sativus Boeck

        기름골의 일반적인 이화학성분과 기름을 추출하여 기름의 특성을 평가한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 기름골의 일반성분 중 조지방과 조섬유의 함량은 각각 22.4%, 13.3%이고, 총 아미노산 함량은 6,882.4㎎%로 cystein과 isoleucine의 함량이 1,572㎎%, 905㎎%로 가장 높았다. 2. 기름골 전분의 아밀로스 함량은 46.9%였고, RNA 측정결과 최대, 최저 및 최종점도는 각각 451, 280 및 375RNA였다. 3. 기름골 기름의 산가와 과산화물가는 2.1, 6.2meq/㎏이며 지방산 함량은 oleic acid가 70%를 차지하였다. 4. 기름골 기름의 토코페롤 측정결과 α, β, γ, δ가 모두 검출되었고, 그 중 α-tocopherol이 약 15㎎%로 가장 많이 함유되었다. 5. GC/MS를 이용하여 향기성분을 분석한 결과 주된 향기성분은 2.5dimethyl pyrazine으로 약30%를 차지하였다. The objective of this study were to evaluate quality characteristics of the chufa tuber and its oil. The results are summarized as follows : Crude fat, crude fiber and total amino acid were 22.4%, 13.3% and 6.882㎎% of the chufa tuber, respectively. Amylose content of chufa starch was 46.9% and maxium. Minimum and final viscosity of amylogram characteristics in chufa starch were 451, 280 and 375 RVA, respectively. The acid value of oil was 2.1 and peroxide value was 6.2meq/㎏. The content of oleic acid, a major fatty acid in chufa oil, was 70%. Four type of tocopherol were detected and α-tocopheral was shown to be the major tocopherol. The volatile component was measured by GC/MS. 2.5-Dimethyl pyrazine was the dominant volatile component in the whole chufa oil.

        Waxy Maize Starch의 대체율을 달리하여 제조한 옐로우 레이어 케이크의 특성

        본 연구에서는 옐로우 레이어 케이크의 재료 중 쇼트닝 대신 시판 탄수화물계 지방대체물인 waxy maize starch의 사용 가능성을 측정하고, 저 열량 레이어 케이크를 제조하기 위한 최적 비율을 결정하기 위해 여러 가지 비율로 대체하여 제조한 케이크의 물리적 및 관능적 특성을 평가하였다. 지방대체율이 증가할수록 케이크의 비중은 증가하지만 점도는 감소하였다. 주사전자 현미경 측정 결과, 지방 대체물이 증가함에 따라 air cell과 함께 지방구의 수와 크기는 감소하였고, 점도가 높을수록 치밀한 구조를 보였다. 또한, 물성특성 측정결과 대체율이 증가할수록 hardness, springiness, cohessiveness, gumminess, chewiness 및 resilience는 감소하였다. 관능적 평가에서 색의 경우에만 waxy maize starch 대체 45% 에서 가장 우수한 것으로 평가되었고 지방 대체율이 크게 증가했을 때 전반적인 관능적 평가에서 좋지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 지방 대체물인 waxy maize starch는 저 열량 레이어 케이크 제조 시 적은 비율의 쇼트닝 대체로 사용한다면, 새로운 저 열량 레이어 케이크 제조를 위한 새로운 소재로 사용 가능성이 시사되었다. Waxy maize starches are inherently stable in soluble status and can be chemically modified to improve stability along with heat, acid and shear resistance. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of rheological and sensory characteristics of the yellow layer cake made by adding different levels of waxy maize starch as a fat substitute for shortening. By increasing the substitution level of waxy maize starch for shortening, the specific gravity of cake batter increased and the viscosity decreased. The microstructures of cake crumb observed by the scanning electron microscope were not different significantly, and the size of air cells and fat particles also were not substantially decreased by increasing fat substitution level. The texture profile analysis using texture analyzer decreased by increasing the different substituting levels of waxy maize starch. Among various sensory properties, the color value of layer cake increased by increasing the level of waxy maize starch. However, the appearance, flavor, taste, texture and overall preference decreased.

        수지상세포의 방사선 저항성에 대한 연구

        목적 : 림프구와 비교되는 수지상 세포의 방사선 민감성을 보기 위하여 본 연구를 시행하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 말초혈액에서 분리한 T 림프구에 0 Gy, 10 Gy, 30 Gy의 방사선을 조사하고 4시간 후에 유세포 분석기를 이용하여 선량별 세포고사 빈도를 관찰하였다. 또한 조혈모세포에서 미성숙 및 성숙 수지상 세포를 단계적으로 분리 배양하여 각각 0 Gy, 10 Gy, 30 Gy, 100 Gy의 방사선을 조사하고 4시간, 24시간 그리고 48 시간 후에 선량별 세포고사 빈도를 관찰하였다. 사이토스핀(cytospin)슬라이드에 림프구와 미성숙 및 성숙 수지상세포를 3×104개 씩 분주하고 May Grunwald-Giemsa 염색한 후, 광학 현미경 하에서 각각의 세포군 당 100개의 세포에서 세포 면적당 핵의 면적 비를 측정하였다. 결과 : 림프구에서는 방사선조사 선량별로 세포고사 빈도가 유의하게 증가하였으나, 수지상 세포에서는 그 분화정도나 방사선조사 선량에 따른 세포고사의 빈도차이가 없었다. 또한 수지상 세포는 방사선선량과 관계없이 용량에 의존적으로 강력한 T-세포 자극능을 보였다. 림프구의 세포에 대한 핵의 면적 비는 미성숙 및 성숙 수지상세포의 세포에 대한 핵의 면적 비보다 현저히 큰 반면, 두 가지 수지상세포간에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 결론 : 수지상세포는 그 분화도와 상관없이 림프구에 비하여 방사선 저항성을 나타내었고, 이는 세포의 형태적 차이에 따른 표적의 크기와 관련이 있을 것으로 생각되며, 향후 분자 생물학적인 연구의 기초 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. Purpose : To evaluate radiation sensitivity of dendritic cells in comparison with lymphocytes. Materials and methods : T lymphocytes captured from peripheral blood were irradiated by 0 Gy, 10 Gy, 30Gy. Apoptosis was measured by flowcytometry for staining of Annexin V 4 hours after irradiation. Immature and mature dendritic cells processed from blood hematopoietic stern cell were irradiated by 0 Gy, 10 Gy, 30 Gy, 100 Gy respectively and apoptosis was measured by flowcytometry with time difference as 4h, 24h and 48h after irradiation. Morphometric analysis by percent nucleus was measured in three cell groups, also. Results : Lymphocytes showed radiation sensitivity by increasing apoptotic fraction according to radiation dose. However, both mature and immature dendritic cells showed consistent fraction of apoptosis in spite of increasing radiation dose. Percent nucleus ratio is significantly higher in lymphocytes than that of mature or immature dendritic cells. Stimulation of T-cell by dendritic cells was not changed after irradiation. Conclusion : Dendritic cells showed radioresistance which was associated with small size of nucleus in comparison with lymphocytes and this result would be used as a basal data of radio-labelling for the cellular trafficking studies in nuclear medicine fields.
