      • A Study on Sensation ‘Prickle’ and the Related Physical Properties of Felts Depending on Evaluation Methods

        This study was aimed to investigate the touch sensation ‘Prickle’ of felts depending on evaluation methods including finger-touch, wearing gloves, and forearm test, and to identify physical measurements affecting the sensation. Seven different felts were prepared by some Mongolian and Australian animal hairs and synthetic fibers and each of them was evaluated for ‘Prickle’ under the three different touch conditions by college students. As physical properties, specific apparent gravity (SAG), fiber diameter (FD), Qmax, and mechanical properties by Kawabata Evaluation System were tested. As results, Mongolian young lamb’s wool-made felt was the most strongly perceived for ‘Prickle’ in all of the three evaluations while felts made of synthetic fibers or Mongolian Angora hair were thought as the least prickle. Among three evaluation methods, finger-touch seemed to differentiate felt specimens the most in terms of “Prickle” than the other two protocols. In finger-touch and wearing gloves, mechanical properties such as compression and shear related with fabric deformation tended to contribute to the sensation ‘Prickle’ as well as SAG and surface roughness by KES whereas only two physical measurements, that is, SAG and surface roughness were the predictors for ‘Prickle’. These results could be utilized to design fashion products using animal hair felts depending on tough areas and apparel items.

        감귤 오일 마이크로캡슐 가공 직물에 대한 EEG 신호와 주관적 향기감성 및 선호도

        This study investigated EEG signal, subjective fragrance sensation, and the preference of differently colored cotton knit treated with Citrus unshiu oil containing microcapsules as well as examined their relationships for providing regression models on subjective fragrance preference. Color variables combining 2-level hue (Yellow and Green) and 3-level tone (strong, pale, and grayish) were applied by dyeing prior to microcapsule treatment. We invited 28 female college students aged 20's for EEG signal experiments and subjective fragrance sensations with fragrant knit by rubbing. EEG signals at mid-α, fast-α, and low-β showed significant differences depending on color; Green had more relative power values and grayish tone did more at low-β. Even though subjective sensation showed no significant differences depending on color, some of them such as Fresh, Comfort, and Natural showed significant correlations with EEG signal at low- β, which means that the fragrance sensations of Citrus unshiu fragrance are concerned with attention and alertness for Koreans. Fragrance preference was regressed significantly using some EEG signals and subjective sensation. The results could be utilized to value up fragrant textiles by Citrus unshiu oil.

      • Olfactory Emotion of Natural Citrus Oil and the Oil-Capsulated Fabric

        This study was carried out to investigate the differences of olfactory emotion between natural citrus oil (NCO) and the citrus oil-capsulated fabric (COCF) and to evaluate olfactory emotion of citrus oil-capsulated fabric depending on rubbing frequency presumed as affecting olfactory intensity because the oil-capsules get spilt by rubbing. A total of 30 female college students served as subjects in the emotion test. Citrus oil was presented with coated on a paper diffuser while the oil-capsulated cotton fabric was rubbed by a textile friction instrument with four different rubbing frequencies (1, 5, 10, &15) shortly before being provided to each subject. By a preliminary survey, seven olfactory emotion terms including strong, heavy, warm, sweet, fragrant, familiar, natural, fresh, pleasant, and comfort were finally used in the subjective evaluation using modified magnitude estimation. As results, mean values of COCF were significantly not different from NCO as for ‘warm’, ‘familiar’, ‘natural’, and ‘fresh’. On the other hands, COCF was found as lower valued for ‘strong’, ‘heavy’, ‘sweet’, ‘fragrant’, and ‘pleasant’ than NCO while higher for ‘comfort’ than NCO. As for COCF, ‘natural’, ‘familiar’, ‘fresh’, and ‘comfort’ were more strongly felt than the other emotion terms whereas ‘strong’ and ‘heavy’ were relatively weak. Depending rubbing frequency, as rubbing frequency increased up to 10-time, all of olfactory emotion aspects were more strongly perceived but they got to come down at 15-time except ‘familiar’ and ‘comfort’. These results could be utilized to characterize the emotion of citrusfragrant textiles and to establish its test standard which has been rarely introduced yet worldwide.

      • 감귤마유 마이크로 캡슐로 처리한 환장솜의 물리적 성질 및 생리적 감성의 평가

        본 연구는 감귤마유를 함유한 젤라틴 마이크로캡슐을 제조하고, 이를 화장솜용 부직포 원단에 가공하여 마이크캡슐의 직경과 처리 농도에 따라 가공한 화장솜 원단의 기본적인 물성과 객관적 유분방출특성을 고찰하고, in-vitro 항균성과 in-vivo 피부유분 향상 성능을 평가함으로써, 기능성 화장솜 텍스타일의 생리적 감성을 타진하고자 하였다. 코스메틱 기업에서 개발한 감귤박 성분이 함유된 마유(馬乳)를 심물질로, 젤라틴을 벽물질로 하는 마이크로캡슐을 서로 다른 3가지 직경크기로 제조하였다. 이를 면 100%의 화장솜용 부직포 원단에 슬러리 농도를 달리하여 처리한 후에 원단무게와 두께, KES 굽힘 강성의 변화를 비교하였으며, KS K 0693의 균 감소율에 의한 항균성을 평가하였다. 또한 인체를 대상으로 화장솜 처리에 따른 피부유분 향상 여부를 평가하였다. 연구 결과로서 동일 농도에서 직경 S(small)는 원단 두께에 비하여 무게 증가가 큰 편이었으며, 직경 M(medium)과 L(large)은 두꺼워지나 무게 증가가 크지 않았다. 또한 굽힘 강성은 직경 S와 M에 비하여 직경 L의 증가는 두드러지게 미비하였다. 마찰에 의한 유분 방출량은 처리 농도가 클수록 증가하였으며, 동일 농도에서 직경 S보다 L의 화장솜 원단의 유분 방출량이 더 큰 경향이었으나, 처리 농도 350%(owf) 이상에서는 증가량이 둔화하였다. 폐렴균과 포도상구균에 대한 균 감소율은 3가지 처리 농도 모두에서 99.9%의 탁월한 항균성을 나타내었다. 처리 농도가 높을수록, 직경 크기가 클수록 피부 유분 측정치가 더 증가하였는데, 유분방출량의 결과를 함께 고려하여 감귤마유 마이크로캡슐의 화장솜 처리 최적조건은 직경 L (125Μm)의 슬러리 농도 350% 라고 판단되었다.

      • Cross-cultural comparison of Physiological Emotion by EEG Signal for Fragrant Fabrics Treated by Citrus unshiu Oil Microcapsule

        This cross-cultural study was aimed to investigate physiological emotion by EEG (Electroencephalography) signals for scent-infused fabrics loaded with microcapsules containing Citrus unshiu depending on color variables. A cotton fabric was colored in 2 hues (Yellow, Green) X 3 tones (strong, pale, grayish) combinations for color variables and thereafter it was finished by microcapsules containing Korean Citrus unshiu oil to infusing the scent by rubbing. Two different national groups including Koreans and Chinese were invited among students at Jeju National University for the experiments and their EEG signals were measured when they were presented with the fragrant fabrics by full factorial design for all color variables. As results, national differences in the values of relative power were more shown as for tone variables in that strong and pale seemed to cause higher the values of β for both yellowish and greenish fragrant fabrics seemed to be higher by Koreans than by Chinese showing statistical significances at some channels. Depending on hue as a color variable, the relative power of fast α at O1 and O2 by Chinese was significantly higher for Yellow than for Green while that of high β at T4 was higher for Yellow by Koreans. On the contrary, as for color tone, Koreans showed significantly higher relative power of some frequency bands with ‘strong’ whereas Chinese did with ‘grayish’ for slow α wave at T4 and for low β at O2. These results could help to design physiologically emotional textile products with citrus fragrance specified for Koreans and Chinese respectively.

        풋감과 감태의 이성분 복합염료 제조와 섬유 염색성 고찰

        본 연구는 우리나라 대표적인 전통 천연염색 기술인 풋감 염색의 단점인 뻣뻣한 촉감을 개선하고 천연자원을 효율적으로 활용하기 위하여 갈조류 감태와의 이성분 복합염료를 제조하여 염색성을 타진하고자 하였다. 풋감과 감태로 각 단일염료를 제조하고 단일염료 간의 혼합 비율을 달리한 동시 일욕염색을 실시한 결과, 전통 풋감 염색직물과의 색채의 차이가 허용 가능하고 염색 직물의 강연성이 가장 낮아져서 촉감의 개선이 기대되는 최적의 감태 혼합비율은 6%로 판단하였다. 이 혼합 비율로 풋감과 감태의 단일 염료를 혼합하여 열수추출과 필터링을 거쳐 동결건조시킨 이성분 복합염료를 제조하여, 염료의 입자 크기가 각 단일염료보다 미세하며, 풋감의 기능성 성분인 카테킨 함량이 유지됨을 확인하였다. 또한 이성분 복합염료로 염색한 면직물은 일욕염색 직물보다 전통 풋감 단일염색 직물과의 색차가 더 적어서 전통 풋감 염색과 시각적으로 차이가 없었으며, 강연성이 더 낮아져서 뻣뻣한 촉감이 완화되는 것으로 사료되었다. 따라서 풋감/감태의 이성분 복합염료는 풋감을 이용한 전통 천연염색 제품의 촉감을 개선할 뿐 아니라, 천연자원을 효율적으로 활용하는 데에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. This paper proposes a bi-component dye, including the unripe fruit of Diospyros kaki THUNB and Ecklonia cava, to substitute for traditional persimmon dyeing because fabrics dyed with persimmon juice become stiffer and natural persimmon is insufficient for dyeing. This study examined the color difference and fabric stiffness depending on the ratio of Ecklonia cava for in a one-bath dye solution with Diospyros kaki THUNB and showed that 6% of Ecklonia cava in the bi-component dye was the optimum for decreasing the fabric stiffness. Based on these results, a bi-component dye constituting of 94% Diospyros kaki THUNB and 6% Ecklonia cava was prepared. The particle size was found to be smaller than both single dyes and it maintained a similar amount of Catechin to Diospyros kaki THUNB dye. Finally, cotton fabric dyed with a bi-component dye was much improved in terms of the fabric hand and the surface color was similar to that of the traditional persimmon-dyed fabric. These results could help to develop the natural persimmon dyeing industry.

      • Olfactory Emotional Responses of Chinese People to Korean Citrus unshiu Scent - Infused Fabrics Depending on Fragrance Intensity and Color Variables

        This study was performed to investigate emotional responses of Chinese people to Korean Citrus unshiu scent -infused cotton fabric and to examine the effect of fragrance intensity and color variables of fabrics on it. A cotton fabric was colored in 2 hues (Yellow, Green) X 3 tones (strong, pale, grayish) combinations for color variables and thereafter it was treated by microcapsules containing Korean Citrus unshiu oil to infuse the scent by rubbing. Thirty two Chinese students at Jeju National University in Korea were invited in the olfactory experience and they were asked to rate the olfactory emotional terms including ‘Strong, ‘Fresh’, ‘Sweet’, ‘Soft’, ‘Comfort’, and ‘Natural’, and the fragrance preference depicted as ‘Like’. As results, fragrance intensity was found to give effect on the intervention of color variables in olfactory emotion of Chinese people. When lower intensity of scent was presented, tone as a color variable was revealed as more dominant on olfactory emotion including ‘Fresh’, ‘Sweet’, ‘Soft’, ‘Comfort’, and ‘Natural’ in that pale-toned fabrics seemed to give rise to higher scores for the emotion terms than the other tones. On the contrary the hue was likely not to affect the olfactory emotion although green is slightly higher in the scores than yellow. Finally olfactory preference was higher for pale and Green and it was the most positively correlated with ‘Fresh’ and ‘Comfort’. These results could be utilized in expecting Chinese consumers’ emotion for Korean Citrus unshiu scent - infused textile products.
