As the average life span have been lengthened and the rate of senile population have been raised, chronic degenerative diseases incident to aging has been increased rapidly and become a social problem. With this social background, recently, the facts that oxygen radicals(OR) have toxic effects on Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System and cause neuropathy such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer Disease have been turned out, and accordingly lots of studies on the mechanism of the toxic effects of OR on nerves, the diseases caused by OR and the approaches to curing the diseases have been made. The purpose of this study is to examine the toxic effects caused by Glucose Oxidase(GO) and the effects of herbal extracts such as Chilbokyeum(CBY) on the treatment of the toxic effects. For this purpose, experiments with the cultured cell from the cerebrums of new born mice were done. The results of these experiments were as follows. 1. GO, a oxygen radical, decreased the survival rate of the cultured cells on NR assay and MTT assay 2. GO, a oxygen radical, increased lipid peroxidation and the amount of LDH. 3. CBY have efficacy of decreasing lipid peroxidation. 4. CBY have efficacy of decreasing the amount of LOH. From the above results, It is concluded that Chilbokyeum has marked efficacy as a treatment for the damages caused in the GO-mediated oxidative process. And Chilbokyeum is thought to have certain pharmacological effects on controlling over aging and treating Dementia. Further clinical study of this pharmacological effects of Chilbokyeum should be complemented.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this work, a Prussian blue (PB)/graphene oxide (GO)/chitosan (CS) organic-inorganic composite was successfully synthesized and utilized as an adsorbent for the selective removal of cesium (Cs<SUP>+</SUP>) ions. Taking the advantage of synergistic effect GO, CS and PB nanoparticles, the PB/GO/CS composite exhibited maximum adsorption capacity of 48.35 mg g<SUP>−1</SUP> for Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions. In the presence of competitive monovalent cations (K<SUP>+</SUP> and Na<SUP>+</SUP>), PB/GO/CS showed excellent selectivity (86%) for Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions and had a 6-fold higher distribution coefficient (<I>K</I> <SUB>d</SUB>) than GO/CS. This enhanced adsorption capacity with high selectivity of PB/GO/CS for Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions may have been attributed to (i) the presence of carboxylic, hydroxyl and amino functional groups on GO/CS matrix which strongly bind Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions through electrostatic attraction and chelation, and (ii) the trapping of Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions by the voids of the FCC-structured PB lattice whose size is equivalent to the hydration radius of Cs<SUP>+</SUP> ions. 젊은 남자에게 발생한 통상성 간질성 폐렴과 동반된 폐암 1예

Usual interstitial pneumonia(UIP) is relatively rare disease of lung parenchyme under the age of 50. Lung cancer is reported to occur as a complication of UIP, but has not been reported in young age patient with UIP in Korea. A 35-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of dyspnea, cough and mild fever. He had been suffered from dyspnea during 3 years. The dyspnea worsened recent 1 month ago. He had been treated with pneumonia at another hospital during 4 months before this admission. Chest radiographs and High resolution CT showed subpleural and basal dominant reticular opacities in both lung with no change until now. He was smoker and his occupation was car engine-man dealing with benzene. UIP is suspected by history and radiologic findings. Operation for open lung biopsy was performed to obtain lung specimen via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Patient's pathologic examination showed UIP combined with adenocarcinoma in RLL superior segment and posterobasal segment and RLL lobectomy was done. After operation, the patient has been in cancer free condition so far. We report a case of UIP combined with lung cancer in young man with brief review of the literature.
성상신경절 차단 후 발생한 경부 혈종 및 혈흉 : 증례보고

The stellate ganglion block is one of the most frequently performed blocks in the pain clinic due to its wide range of indications and its simplicity. But it has a potential to cause severe complications because there are some major vessels and nerves around the stellate ganglion. We experienced a rare case of intrathoracic bleeding and hematoma in neck after stellate ganglion block. A 61-years old female patient admitted to ER because of breathing difficulty. She was taken stellate ganglion block in local pain clinic 6 hours before the admission to ER. The patient complained of pain in the neck and dyspnea. We confirmed severe hematoma and contrast leakage in thyroid region and hemothorax. So we applied a endotracheal intubation for the airway insurance and surgical hematoma removal and vessel ligation were done. The patient was discharged from hospital after the treatment of pharyngeal and laryngeal hematoma and hemothorax without further problem or complications after 22 days.

Recently, it is emphasized that the students find a method to solve problems for themselves and learn mathematics with computer. In this point of view, the purpose of this study is to make the students understand easily the concepts of mathematics by visualizing them with Mathematica. In this paper, we search for the Mathematica's function and the method that apply Mathematica on teaching and learning for the secondary school mathematics. We expect to develop the ability of problem solving and the creative talent while the students solve the problems of mathematics using the Mathematica.

Korean Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 14, No. 3, pp. 165-175, 2004. The aim of this study is to show the effect of starting block angle on the starting motion of sprinters using a crouching start. After installing starting blocks on forced platform, and having four highly comparative sprinters use the starting blocks, I analyzed the angular momentum of a crouching start. From the results of the analysis, the following conclusions could be drawn: There were differences of angular momentum both in body's X, Y, and Z axes and in the thighs' X axes, but not in the pelvis and lower legs. As to the general change of block angle, we noticed that an angular momentum for each segments was higher at an angle of 50 to 55 degrees.

낭종성 부갑상선 선종과 심한 골병변을 동반한 부갑상선 기능항진증은 매우 드문 질환으로서, 저자들은 양측 고관절의 통증을 초기 주소로 내원한 환자에서 고칼슘혈증과 부갑상선 호르몬 증가, 골병변의 방사선적 소견을 통해 부갑상선 기능항진증을 진단하고, 경부 초음파와 컴퓨터 단층 촬영, 부갑상선 스캔검사 및 수술중 부갑상선 낭종액 검사 등을 통해 기능성 부갑상선 낭종의 한 종류인 낭종성 부갑상선 선종을 진단하고 수술적 제거를 통하여 정상화된 1예를 경험하였다. A cystic parathyroid adenoma is rare. A case of primary hyperparathyroidism, with the cystic formation of a parathyroid adenoma and a severe bony lesion, is reported. A 52-year-old male was admitted due to pain in both hips and for evaluation of hypercalcemia. The plasma level of the intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) was elevated to 1424 pg/mL. Ultrasonography and the computed tomography revealed a parathyroid cyst on the left thyroid lower pole. Parathyroid scintigraphy detected a parathyroid adenoma. A radiograph showed a subperiosteal bone resorption on the phalanges, and a brown tumor (osteitis fibrosa cystica) on the femur shaft was noted. A surgical excision of the parathyroid adenoma was performed. The PTH level in the cystic fluid was increased. A histological examination confirmed a cystic parathyroid adenoma. The PTH level was normalized after the operation (J Kor SOC Endocrinol 18:214-220, 2003).
4-Nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside의 加水分解에 대한 Trimaine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate 錯化合物의 觸媒 效果에 關한 硏究

Triamine이 tridentate ligand를 형성하는 몇가지 triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complex들을 합성하여 이 complex들의 촉매작용을 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside의 가수분해에 대하여 UV spectrophotometric method로 조사하였다. 이 complex들은 imidazole이나 imidazolate자체에 비해서 비교적 좋은 촉매 효과를 나타내었다. 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside의 가수분해 반응속도는 반응 매체의 pH가 증가할 수록 또한 촉매의 농도가 커질수록 증가하였다. Triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complex는 imidazole 그 자체에 비하여 1.99∼2.84배의 비교적 큰 촉매효과를 나타내었다. 또한 imidazole 및 triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complex의 촉매효과는 imidazole ring의 전자 주는 기에 의해서 증가하고, 전자 끄는 기에 의해서는 감소하였다. Triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate-complex는 triamine이 copper(Ⅱ)와 6-membered ring을 이룰 때 보다 5-membered ring을 이룰 때가 촉매 효과가 약간 향상되는 것으로 보아 이 구조로 형성된 complex가 보다 안정한 구조를 하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside의 구조가 acetal의 구조를 가짐에도 불구하고 일반적인 acetal과는 달리 높은 pH에서 가수분해 반응이 더 잘 진행되었으며 이 현상은 설명할 수 있는 반응 메카니즘을 제시하였다. Several triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complexes in which triamine serves as a tridentate ligand were synthesized. Catalytic action of these complexes for the gydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside were observed by a UV spectrophotometric method. These complexes showed a marked catalytic action enhacing the hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside in comparison with imidazole or imidazolate alone. It was observed that the higher the pH and the concentration of catalyst, the faster the rate of hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside, and triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complex showed 1.99-2.84 times bigger catalytic effect than imidazole. The catalytic effects of imidazole and triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate complex were increased by an electron releasing substituent, meanwhile decreased by an electron-withdrawing substituent of imidazole ring. The triamine-copper(Ⅱ)-imidazolate which composed of two fused five-membered rings showed slightly more effective catalytic action than composed of one fused five-membered ring and one fused six-membered ring. This fact implies that the Cu(Ⅱ) complex containing tridentate ligand of five-membered ring is more stable than the complex containing tridentate ligand of six-membered ring. In contrast with a general acetal molecule, 4-nitorphenyl-x-D-glucopyranoside was readily hydorlyzed at high pH reaction media. A plausible mechanism for this observation is proposed.
심혈관질환 고위험군에 대한 통심락(通心絡)의 유효성 및 안전성 평가를 위한 임상시험

Background and purpose: Arterial stiffness is an important, independent determinant of cardiovascular risk. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) has been used as a valuable index of arterial stiffness and as a surrogate marker for atherosclerosis. The Framingham risk score was developed using categorized risk factors to predict the 10 year absolute risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). This algorithm is established using recommended guidelines for blood pressure, total cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol in addition to age, smoking history and history of diabetes. Tongxinluo(TXL) has been shown to have anti hyperlipidemic activity and anti atherogenic effects. To determine its efficacy and safety, we examined whether TXL improves PWV, ABI, Framingham score, blood pressure, and lipid profile in high risk group of cardiovascular diseases. Subjects and methods: 49 subjects with the high risk of cardiovascular diseases were recruited. Subjects were administered TXL with the dose of 1110mg three times a day for 8 weeks. baPWV, ABI, Framingham risk score, Blood pressure and serum lipid profile were assessed at baseline and after 4 and 8weeks. Results: Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, total lipid and phospolipid significantly decreased after 4 weeks of medication. Total cholesterol, total lipid and phospolipid significantly decreased after 8 weeks of medication. There were no significant changes in Framingham risk scores, ABI, PWV and blood pressure. On safety assessment, there were no adverse effects, hepatic or renal toxicity. Conclusion: We suggest that TXL is a safe and useful herbal medicine for hyperlipidemia and as for anti-atherognic effects, further research would be necessary.
