No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

The surgery of oral and maxillofacial area poses the risk of cranial nerve damage such as trigeminal nerve or facial nerve. Inferior alveolar nerve is prone to damage in the third molar extraction, implant installation, orthognathic surgery, open reduction and rigid fixation, and tumor ablation surgery. On the other hands,facial nerve is likely to be damaged or sacrificed with trauma or parotidectomy. In case of inferior alveolar nerve injury, the incidence is reported to be about 1.3%. The nerve function will almost recover in minimal damage, but it won't recover at last in total damage of a part of nerve unit. In latter cases, nerve regeneration in intended by allograft as nerve substitute or various route of merve condit. But the recovery with autograft is believed to be most relialbe mrthod in the rapair of long-span(longer than 15㎜)nerve defect. We have performed autologous sural nerve graft in the repair of nerve defect, which is caused by resection of benign or malignant tumor. Hereby we report the method of nerve harvesting, recovery of defected peripheral nerve and the complications of donor site with the discussion of sural nerve anatomy.
재조합 균주 Bacillus subtilis LKS88에 의한 Streptomyces albus KSM-35 Amylase의 생산조건

Streptomyces albus KSM-35의 amylase의 유전자를 Bacillus subtilis LKS88에서 발현시킨 균주를 사용하여 amylase의 생산에 미치는 몇가지 요인들을 조사하였다. 본 실험에 사용한 탄소원들중에서 sodium citrate와 왕겨의 효소 생산량이 가장 높았고, 이들을 1:1의 비율로 혼합하여 첨가하였을 때 효소의 생산량은 대조군으로 사용한 가용성 전분에 비하여 20배 이상 증가하였다. 질소원으로 대두박을 사용하였을 경우 yeast extract의 첨가량을 줄이면서 효소의 생산량을 증가시켰다. 배양을 위한 초기 pH를 60으로 조절하고 SDS를 0.01%첨가하였을 때 대조구조보다 높은 효소 생산량을 나타내었다. Bacillus subtilis LKS88 (pASA240)을 sodium citrate와 왕겨 각각 1.5%, K_2HPO_4 0.66%, yeast extract 0.3%, 대두박 0.7%, SDS 0.01% 및 초기 pH를 6.0으로 조절한 배지에서 37℃에서 배양시 최대 효소 활성은 배양 후 36시간에서 나타났으며 이때 효소 활성은 56.6 U/ml이었다. The effects of culture conditions on the production of amylase expressed by Bacillus subtilis LKS88 with a cloned gene from Streptomyces albus KSM-35 were investigated The production of amylase was increased significantly by using sodium citrate and rice hull as a carbon source. In addition, the use of a mixture of sodium citrate and rice hull(1:1) resulted in increase of enzyme production by 20-fold when compared to that of soluble starch. The soybean meal as the nitrogen source could be partially replaced with yeast extract without changing the enzyme production yield. The amylase production was also increased by adjusting initial pH to 6.0 or by adding 0.01% SDS. Maximum amylase production was observed in the medium containing 1.5% sodium citrate, 1.5% rice hull, 0.7% soybean meal, 0.3% yeast extract, 0.66% K_2HPO_4, 0.05% MgSO_4·7H_2O, 0.08% CaCl_2·2H_2O, 0.01% SDS with initial pH of 6.0. The maximum yield of amylase reached 56.6 U/ml when B. subtilis LKS88(pASA 240) was cultured at 37℃ for 36 hr.
유속과 곡관부의 형상 변화를 고려한 파이프 계의 자유진동 해석

A simulation is performed to study the change of the natural frequencies of curved pipe systems containing fluid flow, for different angles and geometry of the pipe systems. Based upon the Hamilton's principle, the equations of motions are derived. This paper consider an initially deformed state caused by the fluid flowing through the pipe at a constant velocity. This deformed state gives rise to initially tension force in the pipe. When the initial force is neglected in cured pipes, the natural frequencies are reduced as flow velocity increases. However, when the initial force is considered, the natural frequencies changed a little with the change of the flow velocity for changing shape(curvature, angle) of curved pipes. In free vibrational simulation of pipe systems, it is necessary to consider the initial force due to the flow velocity and the geometric shape of pipes. Like this, the initial force should be included in the equation of motion of the systems to get more accurate natural frequencies and the change of shape of curved pipes should be considered.
Ba_2Ti_9O_20 유전체 재료의 저온소결 첨가제에 의한 소결 거동 및 고주파 특성

Sintering characteristics and microwave dielectric properties of the Ba_2Ti_9O_20 ceramics added with lithium-boro-silicate glass frit were investigated. Sintering experiments showed that the densification occurred at lower firing temperatures down to 900℃ as the addition of glass frit was increased up to 10wt%. The bulk density and shrinkage of ceramics were strongly dependent on the amount of the glass frit. The microstructures of the ceramics were found to become skeletal-like structures as increase of glass frit. The monoclinic crystal structure of the Ba_2Ti_9O_20, however, was found not to be affected by the addition of glass frit up to 10wt%. Microwave dielectric constants of the glass frit added ceramics were relatively consistent of 35 with over 15% shrunk and densified ceramics. However, the quality factor (Qf) and the temperature constant (TCP) was found to be significantly affected by the additions of glass frit.

To analyze the impulsive response of motorcycle helmets, a simple modelling method is proposed. Based upon experimental data, a motorcycle helmet is simplified to one degree of freedom vibrational model to investigate the influence of engineering parameters such as damping, impact velocity, and natural frequency on the impulsive response of the helmet. Maximum gravitational acceleration reduces as the damping factor value increases. In the case of small damping, the reducing slope is greater than the case of the larger damping. When the damping factor value is around 0.6 or larger, the value of maximum acceleration does not change. With respect to the natural frequency and the impact velocity, it increases linearly. The relationship between HIC and gravitational acceleration is also presented. The scheme of this study is expected to be utilized to economize the design process of high quality motorcycle helmets.

Based upon the Hamiton's principle, the equations of motions are derived, and the finite element equation is constructed to solve the eigenvalue problem for curved pipe structures. To confirm the scheme used in this study, the results are compared with the results of commercial software ANSYS. When the initial tension is neglected in cured pipes, the natural frequencies took place. However, when the initial tension taked into account, the natural frequencies are not changed with the change o the flow velocity. In free vibrational simulation of pipe systems, it is necessary to calculate the initial state force due to the velocity and the pressure of the fluid flow from the equilibrium, then the force should be included in the equation of motion of the systems to get more accurate natural frequencies. The mechanical properties like stiffness or the location of pipe supports are need to be changed to avoid resonance. The natural frequencies are to be isolated from the frequency range of dominant vibration modes. The angles of elbows do not affect the change of the fundamental natural frequency, but affect the change of the third or higher natural frequencies.

하악골 골절후의 골치유과정에 있어서 방사선학적 추적조사

The results of radiographic study of healing of fractured mandible are often inconsistent with clinical evaluation of bone healing pattern of it. In addition, there is inconsistency between radiographic studies. We think if such inconsistency is resolved, clinical assessment combined with radiologic evidence can be used to guide to more accurate clinical management. The purpose of this study is to evaluate radiological healing pattern of mandible, and to apply its result to clinical use. Panoramic view was used to analyze the change of radiographic finding in 35 patients (27 male, 8 female, ranging 17 to 53 years old) treated for mandibular fracture at the department of oral & maxillofacial surgery, SNUH in the period 1991 to 1998, Patients are all treated by rigid internal fixation using monocortical miniplate. Within 9 weeks, no change is observed at fracture site. Osteogenic change is observed at various time interval (3 to 21 weeks). We have found radiographic change of healing is observed 4 to 6 weeks later to clinical healing, According to this result, we recommend radiographic follow-up at 4 week, 10 week, 10 month.
