Adiponectin Attenuates the Inflammation in Atopic Dermatitis-Like Reconstructed Human Epidermis

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic disorder, with a vicious cycle of repetitive inflammation and deterioration of the epidermal barrier function. Adiponectin, an adipokine, has anti-inflammatory effects on various metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Recently, its level was found to be reduced in serum and tissue samples from AD patients. Objective: We aimed to investigate the effects of adiponectin on epidermal inflammation and barrier structures in AD skin. Methods: A three-dimensional in vitro epidermal equivalent model mimicking AD was obtained by adding an inflammatory substance cocktail to normal human epidermal equivalents (HEEs). The expression of epidermal differentiation markers, primary inflammatory mediators, and lipid biosynthetic enzymes was compared between adiponectintreated AD-HEEs, untreated control AD-HEEs, and normal HEEs. Results: Adiponectin co-treatment 1) inhibited the increase in mRNA expression of major inflammatory mediators (carbonic anhydrase II, neuron-specific NEL-like protein 2, thymic stromal lymphopoietin, interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and human beta-defensin-2) from keratinocytes in AD-inflammatory HEEs, 2) enhanced the expression of lipid biosynthetic enzymes (fatty acid synthase, HMG CoA reductase, and serine-palmitoyl transferase), and 3) promoted the expression of differentiation factors, especially filaggrin. We also found that the expression of adiponectin receptor-1 and -2 decreased in the epidermis of chronic AD lesion. Conclusion: Activation of the adiponectin pathway is expected to enhance epidermal differentiation and barrier function as well as attenuate inflammatory response to AD as a therapeutic approach. This study was designed to exam the aged's needs for spiritual nursing care. The purpose was to serve as a basis for the development of spiritual nursing practice. The major findings are as follows : 1. The degree of needs for spiritual nursing care as area was that needs of love and relationship mean 22.0, needs of meaning and object mean 28.2, needs of forgiving mean 13.5. Total needs for spiritual nursing care mean 63.7, which was on the upper middle level. The needs of meaning and object was rated highest. 2. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of love and relatiohship wasn't significanlty different. 3. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of meaning and object was significantly different according to two factors : age(F=7.260, p=0.001), religion(F=5.275, p=0.001). Higher needs of meaning and object was possessed by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other. 4. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, four factors made a significantly difference to needs of forgiving : sex(t=-2.851, p=0.006), age(F=8.201, p=0.001), religion(F=6.928, p=0.000), disease(t=2.327, p=0.024). Higher needs of forgiving was possessed by man than woman, by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other, by the one who have disease than the other.

We experienced three cases of high signal intensity observed by Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging in CO₂ are welders of steel-frame manufacturing industry. Case 1 was a 35 years old man who has been an CO₂ arc welder for 10 years, admitted a sudden onset of tonic clonic seizure. He complained fever, chilling and myalgia since 3 days before admission. On admission, in the test of manganese exposure indices, manganese concentrations of blood, urine and scalp hair were 5.17 ㎍/dl, 22.00 ㎍/l and 31.25 ppm respectively. Case 2 was a 35 years old man who has been an CO₂ arc welder for 20 years. On admission, He complained fatigue, numbness and weakness of extremities, and decrease of libido. In the test of manganese exposure indices, manganese concentrations of blood, urine and scalp hair were 6.34 ㎍/㎗, 14.62 ㎍/l and 57.87 ppm respectively. In neurologic examination, Palmo-mentle reflex and Myerson sign were observed. Case 3 was a 33 years old man who has been an CO₂ arc welder for 16 years. On admission, He complained loss of appetite, numbness of extremities, fatigue and decrease of attention. In the test of manganese exposure indices, manganese concentrations of blood, urine and scalp hair were 5.14 ㎍/㎗, 13.79 ㎍/l and 50.08 ppm respectively. In neurologic examination, Myerson sign was observed. In brain magnetic resonance imaging, T1WI showed symmetrical high signal intensity in basal ganglia and midbrain of three cases. Authors argued that they were developed by manganese exposure, and we considered that follow up study would be necessary.

The scoured and undyed 100% cotton yarn (2/30's) were weft-knitted from 13 different stitches with 7 and 12 machine gauge using a V-bed knitting machine. Structure of knit fabrics was characterized and analyzed: fabric length and width, fabric count, fabric weight per area, and fabric thickness were measured. The thickness of the full cardigan 2✕2 and 4✕4 rib presented the highest values due to usage of tuck stitch. The fabric width of 4✕4, 1✕1, and 2✕2 rib stitches were the narrowest group resulted in relaxation shrinkage after knitting. Also 4✕4rib stitch gave the highest value in fabric density and weight. Fabric stitch and structure were well co-related each other, which give the changes of fabric appearance and properties.

인터넷 기반의 식품 교환량 데이터베이스 구축과 검색 시스템 (ENECC/E-Food Exchange)에 관한 기초 연구

The food composition tables are frequently used to health and nutrition practices. But it is difficult to find out food exchange lists with food exchange groups in the food composition table. Over 2500 items and many kinds of nutrients are in the food composition table. But now food exchange lists are used a few foods. The internet demands the users needs for obtaining more food exchange lists and nutrient information from food composition. This basic study is to solve the users need and the supply more efficient and effective manipulation system for e-food exchange database construction and search system: ENECC/e-food exchange(E-Nutrition Education and Couseling Center/e-food exchange). This paper introduces the food exchange database construction and search system(ENECC/e-food exchange) using the formula which calculates the food exchange quantity of 6 food exchange groups and added one extra groups(alcohol) based on the internet. The ENECC/e-food exchange database is basically based on the 6th food composition table(2001) of the National Rural Living Science Institution in Rural Development Administration, Korea. The e-food exchange database are consisted of 2,261 foods in 6 basic food groups and one extra groups by using ENECC calculating formula. Also, the e-food exchange database has the proximate composition, mineral and vitamin content such as energy, moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrate, ash, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium, retinol equivalent, retinol, β-carotene, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, ascorbic acid, refuse per 100g of each food. To calculate e-food exchange, ENECC/e-food exchange calculating formula was developed. The one food exchange weight and ENECC/e-food exchange weight were significantly correlated. It shows that the use of this formula is valuable and easily usable. A specific food of e-food exchange can be searched by a given set of food groups or food name and can get information about food one exchange lists, weight and nutrient value per 100g of each food user-friendly on internet. It can be used to make a nutritionally balanced meal plan and nutrition education and counseling.

Bacillus subtilis SS103으로 제조한 된장의 품질 특성 및 Angiotensin 전환효소 저해 활성

Three different doengjang(fermented soybean paste) were prepared by using B. subtilis SS103 with high angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitory activity, Asp. oryzae and mixed culture of two organisms, respectively. Quality characteristics and the inhibitory activity were compared. β-Amylase activity rapidly increased during 30 days of fermentation, but lower activity was found in doenjang prepared with B. subtilis. However, α-Galactosidase activity decreased for 15 days of fermentation and little activity was observed after that fermentation period. Protease production tended to increase during the fermentation. High protease activity was found only in doengjang prepared with Asp. oryzae, but the doengjang prepared with B. subtilis SS103 showed very low activity. Total isoflavone content at 90 day fermentation was the highest in doengjang prepared with mixture of Asp. oryzae and B. subtilis. ACE inhibitory activity increased during the fermentation period. The highest activity was found in doengjang made with mixture of Asp. oryzae and B. subtilis. Sensory evaluation on doengjang itself and its soup indicated that doengjang made with mixture of Asp. oryzae and B. subtilis showed higher acceptability on taste, flavor and color than those prepared with only Asp. oryzae or B. subtilis, respectively.

The food exchanges are frequently used to nutrition education and counseling for diabetes, weight control, hyperlipidema and etc. But it is difficult to find out food exchange lists with food exchange groups in the food composition table. This study was conducted to select e-food exchange of commonly used foods(456 foods) and improve search system based on internet. Also, the e-food exchange database was developed as having the proximate composition, mineral and vitamin content such as energy, moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrate, ash, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium, retinol equivalent, retinol, Pcarotene, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, ascorbic acid, refuse per 100g of each food. The e-food exchange database developed is basically based on the 6th food composition table(2001) of the National Rural Living Science Institution in Rural Development Administration, Korea. The 456 commonly used foods or 2,262, all foods can be searched easily in a new system. A specific food of e-food exchange can be searched by a given set of food groups or food name and can give information about food one exchange lists, weight and nutrient value per lOOg of each food user-friendly on internet. It can be used to make a nutritionally balanced meal plan, nutrition education and counseling.
