Because of its importance in tumor invasion and metastasis, the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has become a research focus in the field of cancer. Recently, evidence has been presented that FoxO4 might be involved in EMT. Our study aimed to detect the expression of FoxO4, E-cadherin and vimentin in non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). We also investigated clinical features and their correlations with the markers. In our study, FoxO4, E-cadherin and vimentin were assessed by immunohistochemistry in a tissue microarray (TMA) containing 150 cases of NSCLC. In addition, the expression level of FoxO4 protein was determined by Western blotting. The percentages of FoxO4, E-cadherin and vimentin positive expression in NSCLCs were 42.7%, 38.7% and 55.3%, respectively. Immunoreactivity of FoxO4 was low in NSCLC when compared with paired normal lung tissues. There were significant correlations between FoxO4 and TNM stage (P<0.001), histological differentiation (P=0.004) and lymph node metastasis (P<0.001), but no significant links with age (P=0.323), gender (P=0.410), tumor size (P=0.084), smoking status (P=0.721) and histological type (P=0.281). Our study showed that low expression of FoxO4 correlated with decreased expression of E-cadherin and elevated expression of vimentin. Cox regression analysis indicated FoxO4 to be an independent prognostic factor in NSCLC (P=0.046). These data suggested that FoxO4 might inhibit the process of EMT in NSCLC, and might therefore be a target for therapy.

Survivability is a necessary property of network system in disturbed environment. Recovery ability is a key actor of survivability. This paper concludes network survivability into a novel composite metric, i.e. Network Recovery Degree (NRD). In order to measure this metric in quantity, a concept of Source-Destination Pair (SD Pair), is created to abstract end-to-end activity based on end nodes in network, and the quality of SD Pair is also used to describe network performance, such as connectivity, quality of service, link degree, and so on. After that, a Survivability Test method in large scale Network based on SD pairs, called STNSD, is provided. How to select SD Pairs effectively in large scale network is also provided. We set up simulation environment to validate the test method in a severe destroy scenario and evaluate the method scalability in different large scale network scenarios. Experiment and analysis shows that the metric NRD correctly reflects the effort of different survivability strategy, and the proposed test method STNSD has good scalability and can be used to test and evaluate quantitative survivability in large scale network.

A cDNA library of Ganoderma lucidum has been constructed using a Zap Express cloning vector. A glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene (gpd) was isolated from this library by hybridization of the recombinant phage clones with a gpd-specific gene probe generated by PCR. By comparison of the cDNA and the genomic DNA sequences, it was found that the complete nucleotide sequence encodes a putative polypeptide chain of 338 amino acids interrupted by 6 introns. The predicted amino acid sequence of this gene shows a high degree of sequence similarity to the GPD proteins from yeast and filamentous fungi. The promoter region contains a CT-rich stretch, two CAAT boxes, and a consensus TATA box. The possibility of using the gpd promoter in the construction of new transformation vectors is discussed.

TGF-β activated kinase-1 (TAK1) plays a pivotal role in developmental processes in many species. Previous research has mainly focused on the function of TAK1 in model organisms, and little is known about the function of TAK1 in hymenoptera insects. Here, we isolated and characterized the TAK1 gene from Apis cerana cerana. Promoter analysis of AccTAK1 revealed the presence of transcription factor binding sites related to early development. Real-time quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry experiments revealed that AccTAK1 was expressed at high levels in fourth instar larvae, primarily in the abdomen, in the intestinal wall cells of the midgut and in the secretory cells of the salivary glands. In addition, AccTAK1 expression in fourth instar larvae could be dramatically induced by treatment with pesticides and organic solvents. These observations suggest that AccTAK1 may be involved in the regulation of early development in the larval salivary gland and midgut. [BMB reports 2011; 44(3): 187-192]

In this work, first-principles calculations for the structural, electronic, and optical properties of noble metal oxides M2O (M = Cu, Ag, Au) with the cuprite structure are performed by using a plane wave pseudopotential method in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The structural, electronic, and optical properties are investigated and discussed. For Cu2O and Ag2O, good agreement was achieved between calculated and experimental results. Within the same framework, Au2O is predicted to be a semiconductor. In comparison with the copper and the silver oxides, the gold oxide has less ionic bonding between Au and O, and the intra-atomic hybridization is expected to be more evident as the depletion of the Au 5d shell appears to be more profound than it is for the Cu 3d and the Ag 4d shells. Low Specific On-resistance SOI LDMOS Device with P+P-top Layer in the Drift Region
Jia-Fei Yao,Yu-Feng Guo,Guang-Ming Xu,Ting-Ting Hua,Hong Lin,Jian Xiao 대한전자공학회 2014 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.14 No.5
In this paper, a novel low specific onresistance SOI LDMOS Device with P+P-top layer in the drift region is proposed and investigated using a two dimensional device simulator, MEDICI. The structure is characterized by a heavily-doped P+ region which is connected to the P-top layer in the drift region. The P+ region can modulates the surface electric field profile, increases the drift doping concentration and reduces the sensitivity of the breakdown voltage on the geometry parameters. Compared to the conventional D-RESURF device, a 25.8% decrease in specific on-resistance and a 48.2% increase in figure of merit can be obtained in the novel device. Furthermore, the novel P+P-top device also present cost efficiency due to the fact that the P+ region can be fabricated together with the P-type body contact region without any additional mask.

Yu-Fei Kong,Song-You Wang,Gang Yin,Liang-Yao Chen,Ming Xu 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.49 No.5I
The density-functional method is applied to investigate the structural, electronic and magnetic properties of a new intermetallic compound, Mn3Ge with a Cu3Au-type structure, which was syn- thesized recently. Our results, comparing the generalized gradient approximation and the local density approximation methods for the electronic and the magnetic properties of the newly synthe- sized material, are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data.
