Background: In order to provide essential scientific evidence on the population's health status and social health determinants as well as the current capacity of the health care system in Vietnam to health policy makers and managers, Vietnam Ministry of Health, Hanoi University of Public Health, Hanoi Medical University, and Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy collaborated with Seoul National University (Korea) and conducted a health system survey in the Quoc Oai district (of Hanoi capital) that represented northern rural Vietnam. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional study. The survey covered different topics (more than 200 questions) and was administered in three separate questionnaires: 1) Basic information of all household members; 2) Household characteristics; and 3) Individual characteristics. Socio-demographic characteristics among the households and individuals were collected from 2,400 households sampled by multi-stage cluster sampling method: more than 200 questions. Results: The household size of Quoc Oai was larger than the national average and there was no significant difference in gender composition. In addition, the proportions of pre-elderly, age 55–64, and elderly group (65 years old and over) were higher than the national population statistics. In this context, demographic transition has begun in Quoc Oai. Conclusion: This study design description provides the basic information about a baseline survey of a future prospective cohort (as a part of a collaborative project on strengthening the health system in Vietnam) to the prospective data user of this survey.

For the exploration of pharmacophoric moiety of malloapelta B (1) possessing the inhibitory activity of $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation, structural variation of ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ carbonyl motif was attempted. 1 was reduced by catalytic hydrogenation, sodium borohydride, and lithium aluminumhydride. Catalytic hydrogenation with 30 psi or 15 psi of $H_2$ gas of 1 generated 8-butyl-5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethylchroman (2) and 1-(5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethylchroman-8-yl)butan-1-one (3), respectively. Reduction with sodium borohydride occurred at the double bond of ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ ketone of 1 to give 1-(5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromen-8-yl)butan-1-one (4). Reduction of 1 with lithium aluminumhydride and then quenched with methanol and water produced unexpected products, 1-(5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromen-8-yl)-3-methoxy-1-butene (5) and 1-(5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromen-8-yl)-3-hydroxy-1-butene (6). These are formed from the isomerization of initial product 9 through the continuous conjugate carbocation intermediate 11. Addition of ethylmagnesium bromide and dimethyl malonate anion to 1 gave the conjugate adducts 7 and 8. Ethylmagesium bromide and sodium borohydride reduction unusually gave the conjugate addition due to steric congestion around carbonyl group of 1. Compound 2 exhibits the reduced inhibitory activity against $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation and the others do not show the activity. Therefore ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ carbonyl group of 1 should be important for its inhibitory activity.
Neural Network Model for Construction Cost Prediction of Apartment Projects in Vietnam
Luu, Van Truong,Kim, Soo-Yong Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2009 한국건설관리학회 논문집 Vol.10 No.3
Accurate construction cost estimation in the initial stage of building project plays a key role for project success and for mitigation of disputes. Total construction cost(TCC) estimation of apartment projects in Vietnam has become more important because those projects increasingly rise in quantity with the urbanization and population growth. This paper presents the application of artificial neural networks(ANNs) in estimating TCC of apartment projects. Ninety-one questionnaires were collected to identify input variables. Fourteen data sets of completed apartment projects were obtained and processed for training and generalizing the neural network(NN). MATLAB software was used to train the NN. A program was constructed using Visual C++ in order to apply the neural network to realistic projects. The results suggest that this model is reasonable in predicting TCCs for apartment projects and reinforce the reliability of using neural networks to cost models. Although the proposed model is not validated in a rigorous way, the ANN-based model may be useful for both practitioners and researchers. It facilitates systematic predictions in early phases of construction projects. Practitioners are more proactive in estimating construction costs and making consistent decisions in initial phases of apartment projects. Researchers should benefit from exploring insights into its implementation in the real world. The findings are useful not only to researchers and practitioners in the Vietnam Construction Industry(VCI) but also to participants in other developing countries in South East Asia. Since Korea has emerged as the first largest foreign investor in Vietnam, the results of this study may be also useful to participants in Korea.
Effect of thickness on the microstructure and soft magnetic properties of CoFeHfO thin films
Luu Van Tho,이광은,김철기,김종오 한국물리학회 2008 Current Applied Physics Vol.8 No.6
The thickness effects on the microstructure and soft magnetic properties of CoFeHfO thin films have been investigated in the range of 100–600 nm. There was a significant change in the coercivity (Hc) and the anisotropy (Hk) value with increasing film thickness, but the saturation induction and the resistivity almost remain unchanged. Hc and Hk reached a minimum value of 0.19 Oe and a maximum value of 50 Oe, respectively at 200 nm film thickness. The high saturation magnetic induction is 21 kG and resistivity is 500μΩ cm. The origin of the changing Hc and Hk values is discussed in detail based on change of microstructure along with film thickness. Van Tho Luu,Baeg Kang-Jun,Noh Yong-Young 나노기술연구협의회 2016 Nano Convergence Vol.3 No.10
Organic non-volatile memory is advanced topics for various soft electronics applications as lightweight, low-cost, flexible, and printable solid-state data storage media. As a key building block, organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with a nano-floating gate are widely used and promising structures to store digital information stably in a memory cell. Different types of nano-floating-gates and their various synthesis methods have been developed and applied to fabricate nanoparticle-based non-volatile memory devices. In this review, recent advances in the classes of nano-floating-gate OFET memory devices using metal nanoparticles as charge-trapping sites are briefly reviewed. Details of device fabrication, characterization, and operation mechanisms are reported based on recent research activities reported in the literature.

Van Truong Luu,김수용,Trinh-Quan Truong,Stephen O. Ogunlana 대한토목학회 2009 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.13 No.5
In Vietnam, the customers are becoming increasingly choosy when purchasing apartments. Enhancing the quality of real estate products in the design phase may raise competitive advantage in the real estate market. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is an effective tool to improve the product quality and enhance competitive advantages in the market. The aim of this paper is to explore the applicability of QFD approach in enhancing the quality of a middle-grade apartment in the design phase. The seven-step procedure was used to develop the fuzzy-QFD system in the design phase of apartment projects. The study used a current apartment project as a case study to validate the approach. The customer’s satisfaction and dissatisfaction on the current design was considered to determine design features a quality apartment meeting the customers’ desires. The fuzzy numbers were used to rate the importance weightings of each customer requirement. The findings indicates that the balcony connected to the living room, the laundry with enough space for hanging the washing, and increasing the area of windows for natural lighting and ventilation are major customer desires influencing on their decisions to purchase an apartment in Vietnam. The proposed design solutions for enhancing the quality of the apartment can be used as a guide to focus on what the customer desires throughout the design phase. The results of this paper suggested that QFD can help investors, real estate companies and consultants to produce quality apartments at the design phase. Since Korea has emerged as the first largest foreign investor in Vietnam, the customer’s requirements, technical solutions, and proposed design solutions may be valuable lessons for Korean investors, who would like to invest in real estate projects in Vietnam. Nervous necrosis virus (NNV) causes viral encephalopathy and retinopathy, a devastating disease of many species of cultured marine fish worldwide. In this study, we used the dimorphic non-pathogenic yeast Yarrowia lipolytica as a host to express the capsid protein of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV-CP) and evaluated its potential as a platform for vaccine production. An initial attempt was made to express the codon-optimized synthetic genes encoding intact and N-terminal truncated forms of RGNNV-CP under the strong constitutive TEF1 promoter using autonomously replicating sequence (ARS)-based vectors. The full-length recombinant capsid proteins expressed in Y. lipolytica were detected not only as monomers and but also as trimers, which is a basic unit for formation of NNV virus-like particles (VLPs). Oral immunization of mice with whole recombinant Y. lipolytica harboring the ARSbased plasmids was shown to efficiently induce the formation of IgG against RGNNV-CP. To increase the number of integrated copies of the RGNNV-CP expression cassette, a set of 26S ribosomal DNA-based multiple integrative vectors was constructed in combination with a series of defective Ylura3 with truncated promoters as selection markers, resulting in integrants harboring up to eight copies of the RGNNVCP cassette. Sucrose gradient centrifugation and transmission electron microscopy of this high-copy integrant were carried out to confirm the expression of RGNNV-CPs as VLPs. This is the first report on efficient expression of viral capsid proteins as VLPs in Y. lipolytica, demonstrating high potential for the Y. lipolytica expression system as a platform for recombinant vaccine production based on VLPs.
