Purpose: The DBA/2J (D2) mouse is a transgenic mouse with pigmentary glaucoma. In a previous study, we found a reduction of inner retinal thickness in D2 mice. We attempted to discover the effect of eye drops on the retina of D2 mice. Methods: Ten-month-old D2 mouse eyes were treated with Timoptic XE?, Cosopt?, and Xalacom? eye drops for a 1-month period. Immunohistochemical staining was performed on the mouse eye sections for analysis. Results: In the control group, GABA and OPN immunoreactivity were markedly decreased and NOS immunoreactivity was increased. In all experimental group, GABA and OPN immunoreactivity were increased, and OPN immunoreactivity was markedly increased especially in the Cosopt?group. NOS immunoreactivity was decreased in all experimental groups. There was no difference in glycine immunoreactivity between the control and experimental groups. Conclusions: Combination anti-glaucoma eye-drops to the D2 mouse changed the retinal neuronal population and these drugs might play an important role in the mechanisms of retinal neuronal death; potential strategies for neuroprotection should therefore be evaluated.
Probiotication of Tomato Juice by Lactic Acid Bacteria

This study was undertaken to determine the suitability of tomato juice as a raw material for production of probiotic juice by four lactic acid bacteria (Latobacillus acidophilus LA39, Lactobacillus plantarum C3, Lactobacillus casei A4, and Lactobacillus delbrueckii D7). Tomato juice was inoculated with a 24h-old culture and incubated at $30^{\circ}C$. Changes in pH, acidity, sugar content, and viable cell counts during fermentation under controlled conditions were measured. The lactic acid cultures reduced the pH to 4.1 or below and increased the acidity to $0.65\%$ or higher, and the viable cell counts (CFU) reached nearly 1.0 to $9.0\times10^9/ml$ after 72 h fermentation. The viable cell counts of the four lactic acid bacteria in the fermented tomato juice ranged from $10^6\;to\;10^8\;CFU/ml$ after 4 weeks of cold storage at $4^{\circ}C$. Probiotic tomato juice could serve as a health beverage for vegetarians or consumers who are allergic to dairy products.

<P> Dopamine D2 receptor occupancy of antipsychotic drugs is calculated relative to the subject's D2 receptor binding potential (BP) in the drug-free state (baseline BP). Because baseline BP is seldom known in patients with schizophrenia, population means from unrelated control samples are often used to estimate it. However, this is likely to introduce bias and error into the occupancy measure. There is thus a need for a method to reliably estimate baseline BP for patient populations in whom it may be impractical or unethical to get baseline measurements. It has been previously found that the relationship between plasma concentration and dopamine receptor occupancy by antipsychotic drugs follows a sigmoid Emax model. Based on this, we developed a method for calculating dopamine D2 receptor occupancy by antipsychotic drugs using an inhibitory Emax model ( Imax method) that estimates individual baseline BPs. To validate this, we compared the result from the Imax method with actual occupancy and estimated occupancy calculated from the average baseline BP (substitution method). The data for validation were obtained from two different receptor occupancy studies with the antipsychotic medications YKP1358 and aripiprazole. We estimated the reliability between the true measured occupancy and the predicted occupancy using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and the variability of occupancy was also compared between the Imax and substitution methods. In YKP1358 study, all the ICCs of the Imax method were above 0.8, but those of the substitution method showed values lower than 0.8. In aripiprazole study, the ICCs of the Imax method were higher than those of the substitution method, but all the ICCs showed higher values than 0.8. The variability of Imax method was significantly smaller than that of substitution method in both studies. The Imax method shows better reliability and less variability than the substitution method. The Imax method can be applied for receptor occupancy study, and bring more reliability and accuracy to the occupancy study in patients with schizophrenia. </P>

In an attempt to compare the mash and pelleting costs, individual production costs of eash mash and pelleting are analyzed. For the analysis, Park's model(1982) are used. According to the results of the analysis, the following conclusions are made. 1. Total energy cost for pelleting is 4 times higher than that for mash feed production. 2. Labor cost for pelleting is 20% higher than that of mash feed. 3. Capital requirements for pelleting feed mill is approximately 20% higher than that for mash feed mill when feed mill size is 200 ton/day. 4. Total production cost for pelleting is from 30% to 50% higher than that for mash feed when mill size ranges from 100 ton/day to 400 ton/day.

We summarize and extend characteristics of maximum and minimum, emphasizing the case in which random variables are independent and all of them except one are distributed exponential. As an application, we derive a transform-free expression for the M/G/1 queue length distribution.

The rewrote control of PTCR effect has been investigated by a coherent Nd:YAG laser. The BaTiO₃ thermistor was irradiated by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser(repetition rate:10Hz) with wavelength of 1064nm, beam size of 5㎟, and power of 50-200mJ/pulse. The electrical resistivity of the thermistor was increased as much as 10³. The PTCR effect was successfully controlled by remote laser irradiation.

The object of this study was to find an optimum work standard for economic manufacturing of nodular graphite iron in Korea. A 0.5 ton/hr capacity acid lined existing cupola was chosen for melting because the majority of 290 foundries in Korea operate acid lined anthracite fired cupola. Nodular graphite iron costed from the melts resulted from various (imported) coke ratio and air blow rate were examined their microstructure, composition and mechanical properties. The optimum was found to be 14 w/o coke ratio, 24㎥/min blow rate and 0.04% residual magnesium; this was rather cheaper way than a case that uses anthracite fuel in this country.

The catenary wire is modeled to discrete masses connected by massless strings and the pantograph is replaced with 3 d.o.f equivalent models that are composed of masses, springs and dampers. We derived partial differential equations of motion from the equivalent model and developed the simulation program. Then, we calculated the static equilibrium state of the overhead catenary and the dynamic behaviors of the high speed current collection system. The analysis results were compared with the results of GASENDO software developed at RTRI in Japan.
