• Progeny Selection and Molecular Characterization for Transgenic PAC Soybean

        Yang Qin,Hong-Il Ahn,Bum-Kyu Lee,Young-Soo Jeong,Jong-Min Ko,Soon-Ki Park,Soon-Jong Kweon 한국육종학회 2014 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2014 No.07

Two carotenoid biosynthetic genes, phytoene synthase (Psy) and carotene desaturase (CrtI) linked via synthetic 2A sequence under control of CaMV 35S promoter (two T0 plants 5 and 6) or β- conglycinin promoter (three T0 plants 7, 13 and 16) were transformed into soybean variety Kwangan. After agronomic and phenotypic selection at early generations, T5 progeny of PAC soybean were analyzed by Southern blot to confirm T-DNA copy numbers. A total of 27 homologous lines derived from one of three T0 plants (line 7 under the control of β- conglycinin promoter) with one copy T-DNA insertion, were separated and planted into greenhouse. Flanking sequence analysis was carried out on one of homologous line 6-2-3 and results indicated the T-DNA was intergenic inserted into chromosome 14 from 10,873,131 to 10,872,998 base of soybean chromosome. T-DNA insertion structure, flanking sequence and inserted gene expressions need to be analyzed in the further study.

KAAACI Allergic Rhinitis Guidelines: Part 1. Update in Pharmacotherapy

        Yang Song-I,Lee Il Hwan,Kim Minji,Ryu Gwanghui,강성윤,Kim Mi-Ae,이상민,Kim Hyun-Jung,Park Do-Yang,Lee Yong Ju,Kim Dong-Kyu,Kim Soo Whan,Kim Do Hyun,Jun Young Joon,박상철,Kim Bong-Seong,Chung Soo Jie,Lee Hyun J 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.1

The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) and the socioeconomic burden associated with the medical cost and quality of life (QOL) of AR have progressively increased. Therefore, practical guidelines for the appropriate management of AR need to be developed based on scientific evidence while considering the real-world environment, values, and preferences of patients and physicians. The Korean Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology revised clinical guidelines of AR to address key clinical questions of the management of AR. Part 1 of the revised guideline covers the pharmacological management of patients with AR in Korea. Through a meta-analysis and systematic review, we made 4 recommendations for AR pharmacotherapy, including intranasal corticosteroid (INCS)/intranasal antihistamine (INAH) combination therapy, oral antihistamine/INCS combination therapy, leukotriene receptor antagonist treatment in AR patients with asthma, and prophylactic treatment for patients with pollen-induced AR. However, all recommendations are conditional because of the low or very low evidence of certainty. Well-designed and strictly executed randomized controlled trials are needed to measure and report appropriate outcomes.

      • Distribution and Shape of the Pores in Water Permeable Concrete

        Yang, Z. X.,Yoon, Jeong Bae,Kim, J.O.,Hwang, Kyu Hong,Jun, B.S.,Lee, J.B.,Kim, M.C. Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Materials science forum Vol.544 No.-

Porous concretes with continuous voids have been gaining more interest as an ecological material because of their useful functions such as water permeability and adsorption ability. So pore size distribution and the shape of especially open pores are the key point to permeability. In this study, the size and shape of pores of water permeable concrete were primary controlled by the size and shape of aggregates and secondly by the expanding agents to the cement pastes. 2 types of raw coase aggregate, type I and type C which mean fabricated by impact crusher and concrusher, were taken into uses and 3 sizes of aggregate were used, namely 3 to 5mm, 5 to 13 mm, and 13 to 20 mm. The compressive strength was found to be higher when using impact crushed aggregate. And the smaller size of aggregate was used, the higher compressive strength was achieved.

Densification of Unfired Alumina Refractories by the In Situ Spinel Formation during Application

Yang, J.H.,Youn, Sang Heum,Kim, Jae Jun,Hwang, Kyu Hong,Lee, Sung Gap,Jun, B.S.,Yoon, Seog Young,Lee, Jong Kook,Kim, Hwan Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Key Engineering Materials Vol.336 No.-

To prevent the shrinkages by the densification during the application of unfired Al2O3-C refractories or Al2O3 castables in steel making conditions, MgO was added as aggregate or matrix powder and the expansion caused by spinel formation was studied. Because the spinel was formed at the contacting areas between Al2O3 and MgO particles and the volume of in-situ formed spinel increased more abnormally at the side of Al2O3 particles than MgO, the addition of MgO aggregates was not recommendable due to the formation of large voids around the MgO aggregates. Nevertheless, corrosion resistance was increased with the amount of fine MgO added, and the finer MgO powder added, the better residual expansion and minute structure formation was observed. In the contrary, in case of castables volume expansion due to spinel formation was not obvious because the degree of densification was less than high-pressure formed refractories. But CA6 phase would not form around alumina aggregates during corrosion so the corrosion resistance was much more enhanced.

      • Properties of Permeable Concrete Substrate Having Dual Pore Structures

        Yang, Z. X.,Hwang, Kyu Hong,Yoon, Jeong Bae,Kim, J.O.,Kim, M.C. Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2008 Materials science forum Vol.569 No.-

Porous concretes with continuous voids have been gaining more interest as an ecological material because of their useful functions such as water permeability and adsorption ability. Especially, to make porous concrete much more environmentalized, micropores play a role of nest for microorganism and germs to live in. So micropore distribution and the size of micropores especially open pores are the key point . In this study, the size and distribution of micropores of porous concrete were effected by the AE agents to the cement pastes and then by the treating types, treating times, treating temperatures, and the vacuum pressure during the treating. And another group specimens were added sodium bicarbonate and alum. And then physical properties were examined, digital microscope was also used to observe the micropores sizes and distributions. Cracks were observed on the cement-aggregate joint when the amount and vacuum pressure increased. And high treating temperature shows no good on the bonding of cement paste and aggregate.

Effects of Restricted Oxygen, Nitric oxide, and Mercuric Chloride on the Seed Germination and Early Elongation Growth of Rice

Yang Woon-Ho,Kim Je-Kyu,Smucker Alvin J.M. The Korean Society of Crop Science 2006 Korean journal of crop science Vol.51 No.4

Germination and early elongation of rice after germination were investigated in anoxic air treatment, nitric oxide gas treatment, and six concentrations of mercuric chloride solutions to determine the effects of limited oxygen environment, nitric oxide, and inhibited water flux through cell membrane in $17^{\circ}C$. Anoxic air treatment affected germination of tested six varieties very little. However root elongation rates were severely inhibited while shoot growth was affected less. Reductions in shoot and root elongations demonstrated genotypic variations. Nitric oxide delayed the germination of rice even though it didn't affect the final percent germination. Elongations of root and shoot were inhibited in nitric oxide treatment. The inhibitor effect of nitric oxide on the shoot elongation of rice was less severe, while nitric oxide completely inhibited the root emergence of rice. Concentrations of $HgCl_2$ greater than $300{\mu}M$ dramatically reduced the rate and percentage of germination when compared to distilled water treatment. The reduced percent germination showed the greatest variation among rice varieties in $500{\mu}M$ solution of mercuric chloride. Ansanbyeo, Jinheung, and Odaebyeo were affected less by $HgCl_2$, Nonganbyeo and Sangmibyeo were intermediate, and the germination of Andabyeo was greatly reduced by $HgCl_2$. Root elongation of germinated rice seedlings was more sensitive to oxygen deficits, nitric oxide, and $HgCl_2$ treatments than germination and shoot elongation. In conclusion, poor seedling establishment of rice sown in flooded paddy soils, in which the oxygen supply to the seeds is restricted, appears to the result of limited root elongation rate.

Variations in the Structural, Morphological and Microwave Properties of YBa₂Cu₃O7-δ Films on Etching

        J. H. Lee,Sang Young Lee,Eun Kyu Park,Ho Sang Jung,S. J. Lee,Sang-Geun Lee,Seung-Un Park,W. I. Yang 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.2

Various etching techniques have been used for making high-temperature superconductor (HTS) circuits and devices for electronic applications and to reduce the film thickness for investigating the thickness dependence of the critical current density Jc of HTS-coated conductors. We studied the effects of wet-chemical etching and Ar-ion milling on the structural, morphological and microwave properties of YBa₂Cu₃O7-δ (YBCO) films grown on LaAlO₃ substrates. Br₂ in methanol (Br₂-MeOH), nitric acid and disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) were used as the etchants for the wet etching process. The lattice constant and the surface roughness of the YBCO films were measured before and after etching along with the microwave surface resistance (RS) at~8.5GHz. Variations in the YBCO film thickness on etching were considered to compare the intrinsic RS values of YBCO films before and after etching with the effects of finite film thickness taken into account. Both disodium EDTA and Br₂-MeOH appeared to be suitable as etchants with the observed increases in the c-axis constant, the rms surface roughness and the intrinsic RS being less than 0.04 %, 19 % and 5 %, respectively, after etching. Meanwhile, YBCO films etched with Ar-ion milling and nitric acid showed significant degradation in the properties with variations of 55 % and 25 % in the intrinsic RS observed after etching, respectively. A small, but nevertheless enhanced, intrinsic RS was consistently observed for YBCO films etched by either Br₂-MeOH or disodium EDTA throughout the measured temperatures. • A Compact Model of Quantum Electron Density at the Subthreshold Region for Double-Gate Junctionless Transistors

        Duarte, J. P.,Moon-Seok Kim,Sung-Jin Choi,Yang-Kyu Choi IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on electron devices Vol.59 No.4

A compact model of quantum electron density at the subthreshold region is derived for junctionless (JL) double-gate (DG) FETs. The proposed quantum model is obtained under two different quantum confinement conditions. One is for a case of a thick channel and a heavily doped channel, where quantum confinement effects (QCEs) are modeled by a 1-D quantum harmonic oscillator. The other is for a case of a thin channel, where QCEs are modeled by the use of a 1-D quantum well surrounded by high potential barriers and an energy correction term coming from the depletion charge. It is shown that, regardless of the channel thickness, the quantum confinement is higher in JL than in inversion-mode (IM) DG FETs. However, for a thin channel, the quantum threshold voltage shift is less severe in JL than in IM DG FETs. The proposed model gives an analytical expression for the threshold voltage shift due to QCEs, which can be used as a quantum correction term for compact modeling.

Effects of a Dead Layer at the Interface between the MgB2 Film and the Substrate on the Effective Surface Resistance of MgB2 Films at Microwave Frequencies

Eun Kyu Park,이상영,Ho Sang Jung,J. H. Lee,W. I. Yang 한국물리학회 2007 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.51 No.5

MgB$_2$ films are often grown with a dead layer at the film-substrate interface, with the layer thickness being as large as 30 -- 50 nm. While studies on the effect of a non-stoichiometric Mg-rich top layer on the microwave properties revealed that the microwave surface resistance $R_s$ could decrease significantly after the top layer had been removed, the roles of the dead layer on the measured transport properties of MgB$_2$ films are little known. Here, we study the effects of the dead layer on the effective $R_s$ ($R_s^{eff}$) of MgB$_2$ films by comparing the $R_s^{eff}$ values of two MgB$_2$ films, calculated with and without consideration of the dead layer, with each other. An impedance transformation method was used to assess the effects of the dead layer on the $R_s^{eff}$. The intrinsic $R_s$ of the dead layer appeared to be comparable for the two MgB$_2$ films, with the enhanced $R_s^{eff}$ observable after ion-milling being attributable to the existence of the dead layer between the substrate and the MgB$_2$ layer.

      • A Nonpiecewise Model for Long-Channel Junctionless Cylindrical Nanowire FETs

        Duarte, J. P.,Sung-Jin Choi,Dong-Il Moon,Yang-Kyu Choi IEEE 2012 IEEE electron device letters Vol.33 No.2

A nonpiecewise drain current model is formulated for long-channel junctionless (JL) cylindrical nanowire (CN) FETs. It is obtained by using the Pao-Sah integral and a continuous charge model, which is derived by extending the parabolic potential approximation in all regions of the device operation. The proposed nonpiecewise model analytically describes the bulk and surface current mechanisms in JL CN FETs from the subthreshold region through the linear region to the saturation region without any fitting parameters. In addition, for each of these operation regions, the model reduces to simple expressions that explain the working principle of JL CN FETs. The model is compared with numerical simulations and shows good agreement.
