The purpose of this study is to provide some basic data which can be helpful for improving the methods of mathematics teaching-learning emphasizing the affective factors by investigating the effect on affective characteristics and mathematical problem solving ability of the students on the elementary school sixth grade. In order to achieve these purpose, the following research problems were set up for the present study: The results of this study are as follows: First, it was appeared that there was not any difference on attitude on mathematics, belief, self-confidence and the degree of mathematical problem solving ability by sex. Second, it was appeared that there was some statistical meaningful difference on attitude on mathematics, belief, self-confidence and the degree of mathematical problem solving ability according to high middle low ability on mathematics which the students think that they have. Based on the results of this study, I'd like to give some suggestions as followings to provide some help to teaching and learning mathematics. First, the succeeding studies are needed by selecting different population from the population of this study, classifying low-ranking factors consisting of affective characteristics differently from this study, compounding each low-ranking factors in various manners like using new items, etc. Second, the succeeding studies are needed in this part, because what mathematical belief teachers have mathematics can have an effect on students' mathematical belief and action as well as on teachers' thinking process and action in the class. Third, the succeeding studies are needed to develop concrete field study and program which can be helpful for improving actually students' affective behavior characteristics in school field.

      • Chromosomal cephalosporinase in Enterobacter hormaechei as an ancestor of ACT-1 plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamase

        Roh, Kyoung Ho,Song, Wonkeun,Chung, Hae-Sun,Lee, Yang Soon,Yum, Jong Hwa,Yi, Ha Na,Chun, Jong Sik,Yong, Dongeun,Lee, Kyungwon,Chong, Yunsop Microbiology Society 2012 Journal of medical microbiology Vol.61 No.1

<P>In this study of the diversity of AmpC β-lactamase in clinical isolates of Enterobacter spp., a strain was found carrying the plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamase ACT-1 gene on its chromosome. The strain was identified as Enterobacter hormaechei using phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA and hsp60 genes. In addition, the species was confirmed by DNA-DNA hybridization. The genetic environment of the bla(ACT-1) gene was characterized, including the ampR and ampG genes, using a two-step PCR. The amino acid sequences of AmpR at serine 35, arginine 86, glycine 102, aspartic acid 135 and tyrosine 264 were conserved. Measurement of the transcription level of the bla(ACT-1) gene using real-time quantitative PCR showed that it increased 1.98-fold following cefoxitin induction. These results suggest that the plasmid-mediated bla(ACT-1) gene originated from the chromosome of E. hormaechei.</P>

Guidelines for Mobile Laboratories for Molecular Diagnostic Testing of COVID-19

        Roh Kyoung Ho,Hong Ki Ho,Nam Myung-Hyun,Kim Taek Soo,Seong Moon-Woo,이진경,Bae Sookyoung,Huh Hee Jae,Ahn Jeong-Yeal,Lim Jinsook,Kim Gab Jung,Park Jae Sun,Kim Hyun Yeong,Yoo Cheon Kwon,Lee Hyukmin 대한진단검사의학회 2022 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.42 No.5

With the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the need for rapid testing and diagnosis and consequently, the demand for mobile laboratories have increased. Despite this need, there are no clear guidelines for the operation, maintenance, or quality control of mobile laboratories. We provide guidelines for the operation, management, and quality control of mobile laboratories, and specifically for the implementation and execution of COVID-19 molecular diagnostic testing. These practical guidelines are primarily based on expert opinions and a laboratory accreditation inspection checklist. The scope of these guidelines includes the facility, preoperative evaluation, PCR testing, internal and external quality control, sample handling, reporting, laboratory personnel, biosafety level, and laboratory safety management. These guidelines are useful for the maintenance and operation of mobile laboratories not only in normal circumstances but also during public health crises and emergencies.

      • Amplification of Uncultured Single-Stranded DNA Viruses from Rice Paddy Soil

        Kim, Kyoung-Ho,Chang, Ho-Won,Nam, Young-Do,Roh, Seong Woon,Kim, Min-Soo,Sung, Youlboong,Jeon, Che Ok,Oh, Hee-Mock,Bae, Jin-Woo American Society for Microbiology 2008 Applied and environmental microbiology Vol.74 No.19

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>Viruses are known to be the most numerous biological entities in soil; however, little is known about their diversity in this environment. In order to explore the genetic diversity of soil viruses, we isolated viruses by centrifugation and sequential filtration before performing a metagenomic investigation. We adopted multiple-displacement amplification (MDA), an isothermal whole-genome amplification method with φ29 polymerase and random hexamers, to amplify viral DNA and construct clone libraries for metagenome sequencing. By the MDA method, the diversity of both single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) viruses and double-stranded DNA viruses could be investigated at the same time. On the contrary, by eliminating the denaturing step in the MDA reaction, only ssDNA viral diversity could be explored selectively. Irrespective of the denaturing step, more than 60% of the soil metagenome sequences did not show significant hits (E-value criterion, 0.001) with previously reported viral sequences. Those hits that were considered to be significant were also distantly related to known ssDNA viruses (average amino acid similarity, approximately 34%). Phylogenetic analysis showed that replication-related proteins (which were the most frequently detected proteins) related to those of ssDNA viruses obtained from the metagenomic sequences were diverse and novel. Putative circular genome components of ssDNA viruses that are unrelated to known viruses were assembled from the metagenomic sequences. In conclusion, ssDNA viral diversity in soil is more complex than previously thought. Soil is therefore a rich pool of previously unknown ssDNA viruses.</P>

      • Numerical simulation of the post-Newtonian equations of motion for the near Earth satellite with an application to the LARES satellite

        Roh, Kyoung-Min,Kopeikin, Sergei M.,Cho, Jung-Ho Elsevier 2016 ADVANCES IN SPACE RESEARCH Vol.58 No.11

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We study the post-Newtonian perturbations in the orbit of a near-Earth satellite by integrating them with a high-fidelity orbit propagation software KASIOP. The perturbations of the orbital elements are evaluated for various cases from a low-Earth orbit to a geostationary one, and from an equatorial to a polar orbit. In particular, the numerical simulation is applied to the LARES-like satellite under a realistic orbital configuration. The relativistic perturbations include the Schwarzschild term, the effects of Lense-Thirring precession, and the post-Newtonian term due to the quadrupole moment of the Earth as well as the post-Newtonian gravitoelectric and gravitomagnetic forces, which are produced by the tidal potential of the solar system bodies, are also modeled. The latter three terms are usually ignored in most orbit-propagation software. The secular variations of the orbital elements are evaluated from the orbital positions propagated for a half year. For a medium altitude orbit like that of the LARES mission, the magnitude of the relativistic perturbations ranges from the order of 10−7 m/s2 by the Schwarzschild effect to 10−15 m/s2 by the relativistic tidal effects. The orbital integration shows that the secular variations in three orbital elements – the ascending node, the argument of perigee, and the mean anomaly at epoch – are larger than the systematic error as results of the relativistic perturbations. The magnitudes of the secular variation are investigated in terms of the orbital altitude, inclination, and the size of each perturbation force. The numerical simulation rendered in this study shows that the secular post-Newtonian perturbations with the magnitude lying beyond the Schwarzschild and the Lense-Thirring effects need to be taken into account in current and upcoming space geodesy missions.</P>

        Roh, Seong Woon,Nam, Young-Do,Chang, Ho-Won,Kim, Kyoung-Ho,Kim, Min-Soo,Ryu, Ji-Hwan,Kim, Sung-Hee,Lee, Won-Jae,Bae, Jin-Woo American Society for Microbiology 2008 Applied and environmental microbiology Vol.74 No.20

<B>ABSTRACT</B><P>During a previous study on the molecular interaction between commensal bacteria and host gut immunity, two novel bacterial strains, A911T and G707T, were isolated from the gut of <I>Drosophila melanogaster</I>. In this study, these strains were characterized in a polyphasic taxonomic study using phenotypic, genetic, and chemotaxonomic analyses. We show that the strains represent novel species in the family <I>Acetobacteraceae</I>. Strain G707T, a highly pathogenic organism, represents a new species in the genus <I>Gluconobacter</I>, “<I>Gluconobacter morbifer</I>” sp. nov. (type strain G707 = KCTC 22116T = JCM 15512T). Strain A911T, dominantly present in the normal <I>Drosphila</I> gut community, represents a novel genus and species, designated “<I>Commensalibacter intestini</I>” gen. nov., sp. nov. (type strain A911 = KCTC 22117T = JCM 15511T).</P>

Soluble extract of soybean fermented with Aspergillus oryzae GB107 inhibits fat accumulation in cultured 3T3-L1 adipocytes

        Kyoung-Ha So,Yasuki Suzuki,Shinichi Yonekura,Yutaka Suzuki,Chan Ho Lee,Sung Woo Kim,Kazuo Katoh,Sang-Gun Roh 대한지역사회영양학회 2015 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.5 No.6

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of fermented soybean (FS) extract on adipocyte differentiation and fat accumulation using cultured 3T3-L1 adipocytes. MATERIALS/METHODS: 3T3-L1 adipocytes were treated with FS and nonfermented soybean (NFS) extract during differentiation for 10 days in vitro. Oil red O staining was performed and glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH) activity was measured for analysis of fat accumulation. Expressions of adipogenic genes were measured. RESULTS: Soluble extract of soybean fermented with Aspergillus oryzae GB107 contained higher levels of low-molecular-weight protein than conventional soybean protein did. FS extract (50 μg/ml) inhibited adipocyte differentiation and fat accumulation during differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes for 10 days in vitro. Significantly lower GPDH activity was observed in differentiated adipocytes treated with the FS extract than those treated with NFS extract. Treatment with FS extract resulted in decreased expression levels of leptin, adiponectin, and adipogenin genes, which are associated with adipogenesis. CONCLUSIONS: This report is the first to demonstrate that the water-soluble extract from FS inhibits fat accumulation and lipid storage in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Thus, the soybean extract fermented with A. oryzae GB107 could be used to control lipid accumulation in adipocytes.

Eruptive Syringoma - Clinicopathologic Analysis of Thirteen Cases

(Kyoung Jin Kim),(Kyung Hyun Roh),(Jee Ho Choi),(Kyung Jeh Sung),(Kee Chan Moon),(Jai Kyoung Koh) 대한피부과학회 2002 Annals of Dermatology Vol.14 No.3

N/A Background : Eruptive syringoma is a very rare variant of syringoma and arises most frequently on the anterior trunk of young people. Because eruptive syringoma represents clinically a very rare distinct entity, clinicopathologic studies rarely have been described in literature. Objective : The aim of this study is to characterize clinical and histopathologic findings of eruptive syringomas which were diagnosed by histopathologic examination for a 10 year period in Asan medical center. Methods : The hospital records, clinical history, and biopsy slides of 13 eruptive syringoma were reviewed retrospectively. Result : There were 5 men(38%) and 8 women(62%) with the mean age of 31 years. The mean age of onset was 23 years and 3 patients(23%) presented the lesions before puberty. The most frequently involved sites were anterior trunk, axilla, upper extremities, neck, and face in descending order. The most common initial clinical diagnosis was verruca plana(38%). Most of the lesions did not show self-limiting course and several treatment modalities including oral isotretinoin or CO_2 laser were not so effective. All cases showed characteristic histopathologic features of syringoma and 76% of them revealed increased basal melanin pigment or pigmentary incontinence. Conclusion : Eruptive syringoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of flat papular lesions by histopathologic examination and it may help to avoid inappropriate therapeutic approach.
