Vol.15 No.1

Objectives: To determine the health behavior practices and needs for health promotion in shift work pattern in subway workers. Methods: Among 789 male subway workers divided into four groups, 191 day time workers, 187 station service men (3 groups, 2 turns), 204 rolling stock inspectors (3 groups, 2 turns) and 207 train operators (8 groups, 5 turns), we surveyed the health behavior and needs for health promotion by questionnaire. Results: For obesity, blood pressure and total cholesterol, day time workers had the highest levels, while train operators had higher diseases of the liver and stomach than others. The station service men had the highest smoking rate and daily smoking amount. More than 80% of the respondents consumed alcohol, and the drinking amount was highest among the day time workers and the 8/5 shift train operators. Eighty-two percent of the station service men had irregular eating habits and 17.7% did not have any breakfast. In health promotion activities, exercise and restriction of one's favorite(smoking or drinking) were most preferred in the four groups of respondents. The priority of needs and participation for health promotion was exercise programs, followed by stress management, cancer prevention program, weight control program, anti-smoking campaign, high blood pressure control program, and abstinence/moderation in drinking. Conclusion: As the health behavior practices differed relative to shift work patterns, it was suggested that a comprehensive health promotion program according to shift work pattern should be planned and implemented among subway workers.

Vol.8 No.-

This study attempted to investigate the relationships between the urinary pH, emotional state and food preference. The subjects were 55 college students living in Kwang- ju. In this study, the emotional state and food preference of the subjects were investigated through questionnaires. Also, the urinary pH of the subjects were obtained by examination. The results are summarized as follows; 1) The height and weight of the subjects were those of Korean standards for man and woman. Their uninary pH, Hb and Hct concentrations were in normal range. 2) The mean hedonic score for food preference in subjects was 2.8. The difference in food preference between male and female was not significant except for a soy bean item and protein food group that were more favored by male. The subjects favored grapes, tomatoes, cucumber, apple, strawberry in order. 3) The subjects were classified into three groups, a little acid group, neutral group and a little alkali group accoring to thein urinary pH. A little acid group answered significant high rate to the items of the emotional state, "hard to study" and "no self-confidence". 4) Foods that have significant difference between the urinary pH and food preference were sweet potatoes, bread and yoghurt but not consistent according to the urinary pH. 5) The food preference according to the emotional state showed significant difference in cereal group. "Not to talk with other" group showed low rate preference to cereal group. From the results above the relationship between the emotional stability and the urinary pH was found. On the other side, many cooking methods should be studied and nutrition oducation should be oriented to recommend an increased in take of fat & oil group, milk group and vegetable group.

Vol.19 No.-

This drama is concerned essentially with the fallen Samson's recovery of God's last favor. Tragic beauty, Milton thought, came from the surffering and regeneration ant triumphant death of a protagonist. Everything must center on him ant his regeneration must dominate everything. Milton insists throughout the drama that the heavenly Disposition is not to be disputed, that the way of God are just and justifiable, and that Samson is an instrument, not a victim of providence. This study attempts to analize the process which involves Samson's punishment and repentance, and a sort of probation under new trial provided by the timidity and lack of faith of Manoa and the chorus, by the attempted deductions of Dalia, and by the threats of Harapha and to examine tile analogue between the poet's own position and that of his protagnoist which is vividly presented in the poem. It cannot be denied that the poem gains from association with our picture of Milton himself in the last days of his heroic life, blind and alone amid the alien society of the Restoration, confronted with the apparent failure of the cause for which he had battled, but seeking in religious faith the assurance that God will not long defer to vindicate the glory of his name against all competition. It is true that Milton's Samson is most Puritan and Protestant because he accepts every shred of responsibility for his misfortunes, and because it is by that acceptance that he is regenerated. Only if we read his tragedy in the light of Christian tradition can we see in it the fulfilment, not only of Milton's early intention to sing the victorious agonies of martyrs and saints, but also of his larger ambition to assert Eternal Providence, and justify the ways of God to men. Here the whole philosophy of Milton's reaches its end. We may think that few poets have ever achieved so fully an exalted purpose, and Samson Agonistes is, in more ways than we have sometimes understood, the close of a dedicated life of Milton's

Vol.12 No.-

The aim of this paper is to examine the influence of Milton over Blake. It is perhaps the most important point that Blake and Milton are compeers in spiritual pride. There are, in the both, much the elements and impulses. This study throws light on many of Blake's characteristics by the help of better-known and similar traits in Milton. Therefore I tried analyze the characteristics of the two poets-the views of morality, the ideas on the Fall and Regeneration of Man, and the Feelings of the vocation as prophets. With similarities and differences in their views on the general aim and plan of life, their schemes of life run parallel in the work of the two poets and the brotherhood of the two poets' souls is culminated in the highest flights of their poetical metaphysics.

Vol.41 No.-

This study presents analytical prediction of time-dependent characteristics and behaviors of the 1/4 prestressed concrete containment vessel with unbonded tendon considering time-dependent behavior. To represent the interaction between unbonded tendon and concrete, an unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method is developed using proposed unbonded tendon model. Some numerical examples of PSC structures with unbonded tendon are carried out using unbonded element and RC shell. The numerical results are verified by comparison with reliable experimental results. The crack and damage patterns also show good agreements with experiments

Vol.2 No.-

The masque, which Ben Jonson and Fletch had raised to high art, was a kind of opera, a play of lyrics and music. Of all masques Comus is probably the most popular and intelligible today. It is as simple as an old-fashioned morality and has little plot and no stagecraft, but it is enchanting to read for its beautiful passages, of lyric description and its vigorous songs. This essay is an attempt to interpret and conclude that Milton in Comus takes an ethical theme, the praise and power of Chastity attempting to work out his own problems as great humanist as well as the great puritan, as the eloquent spokesman of the changing phases of the English Revolution, and as a brilliant and independent theologian. He sees life as a struggle, the Puritan struggle, for the survival of the good and virtuous. Comus strengthens the proof of Milton's own leaning do a grave and temperate mode of life and it is a thing of noble art and serious moral, and its story tells of the temptation of the chaste maiden by the enchanter Comus, and of the power which her virtue gave her to resist him. And it it he Comus-Lady debate which forms the organizing center and dramatic climax of the work, for its meaning, as opposed to its conventional purpose, centres on the moment of trial, as his three great works were later to do. It is of great significance that almost all the ideas that govern Milton's later poetry are already here in Comus,

      • John Milton

Vol.16 No.-

Milton's three major poems have been admired for varyingreasons during the three centuries since their appearance. For many years the tendency in Miltonic criticism has been to stress Milton as a humanist rather as a Puritan. Most readers are certainly more impressed by his humanistic role, but the Puritan influence cannot realistically be altogether disregarded. This study attempts to analyze and interpret the characteristic of Milton's Christian humanism in his later poems which include all knowledge men may value. Milton wished for nothing more than to steal as much as possible from the Bible, and his later poems and thier vast design are emanations of biblical patterns. Milton's last poems as whole are impressive testimony that he was a throughgoing Christian humanist and he believed intensely in the divinity of man and the free exercise of mind and conscience. Associated with Christian humanism, Milton's theology informs and enhances his literary achievement, and in fact his justification of God is all the more impressive for its being literary. Milton presented God's purpose in an epic design that would make the connection between the celestial and the human realism of action believable. Being the necessary link, Christ is reason and truly the reasonable part of each believer, each man being part of God. But Satan is the great champion of passion in revolt against divine reason. Milton, with his own resolute nature, tends to think tat man's recovery is within his own power and man has but to give the reasonable control over the passions, as Adam and Samson failed to do, and as Christ the "great man" successfully did in the temptation. While Christianity attached more significance to man's sinfulness and God's providence, Renaissance humanism stressed man's nobility and the infinite power of his intellect. Milton tried to synthesize these opposing thoughts. In Paradise Lost, they are reconciled in a manner which makes it a Christian humanist poem par excellence. Paradise Regained is inspired primarily by dynamic interest in the practical problems of the temporal world and it strives principally to set forth the issues which condition the course of human history. The story of Samson has for him an independent human value and for this reason it adapts itself more naturally to his purpose, affording the means of completing his representation of the state of man. Samson is a representative of humanity who simply fulfills the will of God. Milton is occupied with the problem of making individuals better not merely through his imaginative and poetical beauties but through the total effect of his religious and ethical theme. Taken together, Milton's three great poems constitute a complete and unified embodiment of his Christian humanism, the full working out of the didactic purpose which he had accepted as a responsibility.

Vol.41 No.-

st-tensioned structures in prestressing transfer stage, the deformation field of the tendon of PSC structures is not equal to that of the concrete except at the anchorages. This paper presents the curved unbonded tendon model for analytical prediction of nonlinear characteristics and behaviors of prestressed concrete structures. To represent the interaction between unbonded tendon and concrete, an unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method is developed using proposed unbonded tendon model. The numerical analysis procedure including the developed unbonded tendon element is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.
