이지현,이기주,윤성호,부귀범,손현화,박유환,정춘해,김진호,정원영 조선대학교 부설 의학연구소 1998 The Medical Journal of Chosun University Vol.23 No.2
Multiple sclerosis and lupus erythematosus are chronic, potentially disabling diseases of unknown cause. It is a rare occasion that the finding of both diseases occurs in one patient. Because both diseases may affect the central nervous system, it may be difficult at times to differentiate symptoms of lupus erythematosus from those of multiple sclerosis. As far as we know, there was no case report of SLE in multilple sclerosis in Korea. We report a case of multiple sclerosis accompanied by SLE.

The freshwater fish fauna of Bundang Region, Kyungki-do, Korea, where dramatic environmental changes will be expected due to new city project, was censused to establish base line data for natural conservation program. Nineteen species belonging to 9 families were collected in this region. They were mainly cyprinids and cobitids. The Oryzias latipes, Monopterus albus, and Macropodus chinensis which are rare fish in recent years were found in this region. A swamp region called Neupmal is of particular interest in ichthyology excursion site for primary, middle and high school boy. Therefore, careful organization of new city plan and preservation of ichthyological fauna are strongly recommended.

Background: Laser/light-based devices may provide an alternative to conventional acne therapeutics in some patients with nonresponsive acne. Objective: We investigated the efficacy of red or infrared light-emitting diode (LED) devices in a mouse model of Propionibacterium acnes-induced inflammation through clinical examination and histopathological and immunohistochemical studies. Methods: A human-derived Propionibacterium acnes suspension (109 colony-forming units /μl) was injected into the back of an HR-1 mouse. Then, a 28.9 J/cm2 650-nm red LED or 9.3 J/cm2 830-nm infrared LED was applied to the mouse with P. acnes-induced inflammation once daily for 2 weeks. Two weeks after treatment, histological findings with hematoxylin and eosin staining and expression levels of inflammatory biomarkers (integrin α6, neutrophils, interleukin [IL]-1β, and matrix metalloproteinase [MMP]-2/9) were evaluated in tissue specimens using immunohistochemical staining. Results: Mice treated with red and infrared LED showed clinical improvement in inflammatory nodules compared to mice in the control group. Red LED was much more effective than infrared LED. Epidermal hyperplasia, comedone-like cysts, and integrin α6 expression improved to a similar extent in the red and infrared LED treatment groups and control group. Neutrophil, IL-1β, MMP-2, and MMP-9 expression after treatment with red and infrared LED decreased considerably compared to expression in the control group. Conclusion: In a mouse model of P. acnes-induced inflammatory nodules, red and infrared LED devices may be an alternative to conventional acne therapies. In addition, a mouse model of P. acnes-induced inflammatory nodules is helpful for laboratory research of acne.(Ann Dermatol 28(2) 186∼191, 2016)
New Retention Mechanism of Mononucleotides with Buffer Concentrations in Ion-suppressing RP-HPLC
Lee, Ju-Weon,Row, Kyung-Ho The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengine 2001 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.6 No.1
HPLC separation of ionic samples tends to be more complicated and difficult to understand than that of non-ionic compounds. On the other hand, band spacing is much more easily manipulated for ionic than for neutral samples. Ion-suppression RP-HPLC method was used with organic modifier and aqueous buffer solution. In this work, five mononucleotides of cytidine-5-monophosphate (5-CMP) disodium salt, uridine-5-monophosphate disodium salt (5-UMP), guanosine-5-monophosphate disodium salt (5-GMP), inosine-5-monophosphate disodium salt (5-IMP), and adenosine-5-monophosphate disodium salt (5-AMP) were examined. Acetic acid and sodium phosphate were used as buffers, and methanol as an organic modifier. A new relationship between the retention factor and the buffer concentration at a fixed modifier content (5% of methanol) could be expressed by following: K = (k(sub)-1 + k(sub)0 (k(sub)B/k(sub)S)/(1 + (k(sub)B/k(sub)S) C(sub)B(sup)a), where C(sub)B was the concentration of buffer. Using this relationship, the calculated values closely matched the experimental data. The derived relationship showed that as the buffer concentration increased, the retention factor approached a certain value, and this was buffer dependent.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors are being used to treat malignancies originating from epithelia. Unfortunately, blocking the EGFR pathway leads to various side effects, most frequently acneiform eruptions. Objective: To probe the mechanism underlying this side effect, we investigated the effect of EGFR inhibitors on cultured sebocytes. Methods: To examine the effects of an EGFR inhibitor (cetuximab, Erbitux(R) 10 ng/ml) and the effects of EGFR ligands, such as epidermal growth factor (EGF, 10 ng/ml) and transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α, 5 ng/ml), on the production of inflammatory cytokines in cultured sebocytes, we used reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, immunocytofluorescence and Western blots. Outcomes included the expression of interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) and EGFR. Results: There were no significant differences in the expression of IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, PPAR-γ and EGFR between (a) groups treated with an EGFR inhibitor or an EGFR ligand and (b) the control group, except for a significant increase in the expression of IL-1 in the EGF-treated group. Conclusion: EGFR inhibitors and EGFR ligands do not provoke the expression of inflammatory biomarkers in cultured sebocytes. The role of the sebaceous glands in EGFR inhibitor-induced acneiform eruption should be investigated more thoroughly. (Ann Dermatol 23(1) 12~18, 2011)

Dry skin is a relatively common disorder, especially in the elderly. The condition is associated with generalized pruritus and herbal medicines such as Coptis chinensis and Houttuynia cordata have been proven to be safe and effective for skin dryness and pruritus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of moisturizers containing herbal medicines on senior dry skin patients with pruritus. Twenty six patients were treated with these moisturizers and clinical efficacies, as measured by the score of subjective symptom and objective signs about pruritus, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and hydration capacitance respectively, were assessed after topical application of the moisturizers. As results, the scores of clinical signs and TEWL showed statistically significant improvements after treating with two types of moisturizers on the senior dry skin and no local or systemic side effect occurred. Topical application of these moisturizers was found to be effective and safe for senior patients suffering from dryness and pruritus. And those results were confirmed by the rheological data of loss angle increasing with the addition of Houttuynia cordata extract and decreasing from 15.8 to 12.1 with the addition of Coptis chinensis extract. About 23% reduction of loss angle means that elasticity of moisturizer increases and physically optimized skincare barrier of moisturizer can be formed to keep dry senior skin effectively moisturized.

Background: 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) stimulates murine hair growth in vivo study. Glycyl- Histidyl-Lysine (GHK) peptide increases hair follicle size and stimulates stem cell proliferation. Objectives: To investigate the efficacy of a combination of 5-ALA and GHK peptide (ALAVAX) on hair growth Methods: Cell culture of keratinocyte, melanocytes and fibroblast was performed for MTT assay. Seven-week old C57BL/6N mice were treated with 100 mg/ml ALA ± 5-minute red or blue LED or 100 mg/ml ALAVAX ± 5-minute red or blue LED once a day for 24 days for evaluation of hair growth. Cultured human hair organs were treated with 100 times-diluted ALAVAX ± 20-minute red LED for 7 days. Forty five patients with male pattern hair loss were treated with ALAVAX once a day for 6 months. Total hair count, hair diameter, hair length and patients’ assessment were evaluated at week 4, 12 and 24 after treatment. The penetration of ALAVAX into hair follicles was examined under the fluorescent microscopy. Results: Hair growth was most conspicuous in mice treated with ALAVAX + red LED. Hair growth of cultured hair organs was significantly increased after treatment with ALAVAX only. Total hair count, hairlength and patients’ assessment in humans was significantly improved in the group treated with ALAVAX. No adverse event was reported. The penetration of ALAVAX in human hair follicles was prominent. Conclusion: ALAVAX could be considered as one of the useful agents for the treatment of male pattern hair loss.
