        하수 2차 처리수 재이용을 위한 저압 및 중압 고도산화시스템의 성능평가

        In the present study, the feasibility of UV/H₂O₂ systems was investigated using low and medium-pres sure lamps on biologically treated wastewater effluents for secondary effluent reclamation. Two types of UV lamps were used as the light sources (a 33W lowpressure mercury lamp and a 350-W mediumpressure mercury lamp). The results from these UV systems showed that the removal of organic compounds could be achieved in the contact time of longer than 30min (i.e., low UV doses). Efficiencies of color removal and disinfection were far better than those of organic matters measured as TOC, DOC and TCOD_(cr). In the low pressure lamp UV system, it has been found that DOC and color removals were 60.9 and 86.2% with 50㎎/L of H₂O₂ and contact times of 30 minute, respectively. Whereas, with the mediumpressure lamp UV system, TOC, DOC and color removal were 27.1, 5.6 and 95% with 14.3㎎/L of H₂O₂ and 14 minute of contact times, respectively. Both systems could be applied for the reclamation of secondary effluent treated with biological treatment processes.

        This paper describes the development of sputtered tungsten electrode for discharge tube by making use of Sputtering method using plasma. The Xe discharge tube was designed and fabricated by using sputtered tungsten electrode, and the ICCD(Intensified Charged Coupled Device) and monochromator were used in order to observe the discharge image distribution and to measure the signal intensity. As a result, the emission light form the electrode was spreaded almost uniformly over a wide wavelength band, and the discharge image distribution and the signal intensity show quite a uniform distribution. The emission light from the Xe discharge tube was peaked at 488[nm] and 648[nm].

        전산화단층사진을 이용한 하악지구조분석

        This study was conducted for the purpose of suggestion of the new technique of sagittal split ramus osteotomy pararell to the true sagittal plane. This pararellism is the important concept of the sagittal split ramus osteotomy to reduce the condylar sagging including mandibular hypomobility, tempormandibular disorder, occlusal relapse and other complications. We used 26 adult dry manibles(52 rami), and obtained the computed tomographs through the sagittal, horizontal and coronal sections. The results were obtained as follows. 1. On sagittal section, mean area of S1 was 8.63±2.10㎠, S2 was 8.93±1.94㎠, S3 was 9.49±2.15㎠, S6 was 10.72±2.22㎠. The wider area of sagittal section, the more lateral section, But, no singnificant differency between the areas of the sagittal sections(P>0.05). 2. On horizontal section, The distance between the inferior alveolar canal and the lateral cortical plate of the mandibular ramus were 6.73±1.24mm minum, 7.70±1.44mm maximum. 3. On coronal section, Outer mandibular angle were 4.84±2.37˚right side, 4.93±2.12˚left side. 4. The design of the ideal true sagittal split ramus osteotomy is that posterior border of osteotomy must be limited vertically, at the right posterior point of lingula mandibularis and anterior of osteotomy must be extended to mandibular body, anteroinferiorly.

        각종 소화성질환에서의 Campylobacter Pylori의 검출에 관하여

        Peptic disorders are among the most common maladies in korea as the world. In most cases their etiologies not be established and their pathophysioolgy remain obscure. Although the persence of fastric bacteria has been logn established, recently campylobacter pylori seems to be etiologic agent of peptic disorders. Campylobacter pylori is visualized in most cases of peptic disorders and not visualized after treatment of bctericidal agents, bismuth compound or metronidazole. We had a following results for identification of campylocacter pylori in stomach and duodenal mcuosa via endoscipc biopsy. 1. We studied 54 patients who had dyspeptic symptoms, 29 males. 2. Most patients are in 5th decades, next in 3rd and 6th in order. 3. Ptients were composed of 27 peptic ulcer, 22 gastitis and 5 gastric carcinoma. 4. Campylobacter pylori was identified in 69% of total patients, peptic ulcer 63%, gastritis 77%, stomach carcinoma leastly.

        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

      • 능동 클램프 ZVS 플라이백 컨버터의 역률개선에 관한 연구

        본 논문에서는 single-stage, two-stage 두가지 역률보상(PFC)기법을 기존의 능동 클램프 플라이백 컨버터에 적용하여 역률 개선을 하였다. 삽입된 플라이백 컨버터의 능동클램프회로가 주스위치와 보조스위치의 영전압스위칭(ZVS)을 구현하며, 스위칭 손실을 줄임으로써 고효율을 얻을 수 있고, 높은 주파수에서의 스위칭이 가능하다. 하지만 일반적으로 사용되는 다이오드정류기, 평활용커패시터에 의한 낮은 역률의 문제점이 남아있다. 본 논문에서는 300W급 능동 클램프ZVS플라이백 컨버터를 설계하여 single-stage, two-stage방식을 적용, 입력역률개선을 시뮬레이션과 실험에 의해 입증하고자 한다. This paper analyzed PFC of active clamp ZVS flyback converter by adding two method PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit - two-stage and single-stage. The addition of active clamp circuit also provide a mechanism for achieving ZVS of both the primary and auxiliary switches. ZVS also limits the turn off di/dt of the output rectifier, reducing rectifier switching loss and switching noise, due to diode reverse recovery. As a results, the proposed converters have characteristics of the reduced switching noise and high efficiency in comparison to conventional flyback converter. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed converters improve the input PF of 300W ZVS flyback converter by adding single-stage, two-stage PFC circuit.

        파킨슨씨병 환자에 있어서 자가부신수질 이식술

        Recent experimental studies and clinical cases have suggested that grafting tissue from the adrenal medulla into the brain may alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Autologous adrenal medullary grafts into the striatum was performed stereotactically in two patients with Parkinson's disease. Both patients were bedridden preoperatively, but 4 months after the surgery both became ambulatory and one was even capable of returning to his job. Even though the number of cases was small⑵ and the follow-up period was short, this study shows that adrenal medullary transplantation into the striatum may have some beneficial effects in patient with Parkinson's disease. Further experimental and clinical trials are necessary to see whether this procedure will be a recommendable surgical treatment for patients suffering from Parkinson's disease.

      • Clinical Features and Course of Ocular Toxocariasis in Adults

        <▼1><P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>To investigate the clinical features, clinical course of granuloma, serologic findings, treatment outcome, and probable infection sources in adult patients with ocular toxocariasis (OT).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>In this retrospective cohort study, we examined 101 adult patients diagnosed clinically and serologically with OT. Serial fundus photographs and spectral domain optical coherence tomography images of all the patients were reviewed. A clinic-based case-control study on pet ownership, occupation, and raw meat ingestion history was performed to investigate the possible infection sources.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Among the patients diagnosed clinically and serologically with OT, 69.6% showed elevated immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. Granuloma in OT involved all retinal layers and several vitreoretinal comorbidities were noted depending on the location of granuloma: posterior pole granuloma was associated with epiretinal membrane and retinal nerve fiber layer defects, whereas peripheral granuloma was associated with vitreous opacity. Intraocular migration of granuloma was observed in 15 of 93 patients (16.1%). Treatment with albendazole (400 mg twice a day for 2 weeks) and corticosteroids (oral prednisolone; 0.5–1 mg/kg/day) resulted in comparable outcomes to patients on corticosteroid monotherapy; however, the 6-month recurrence rate in patients treated with combined therapy (17.4%) was significantly lower than that in patients treated with corticosteroid monotherapy (54.5%, P = 0.045). Ingestion of raw cow liver (80.8%) or meat (71.2%) was significantly more common in OT patients than healthy controls.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Our study discusses the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies for OT. Evaluation of total IgE, in addition to anti-toxocara antibody, can assist in the serologic diagnosis of OT. Combined albendazole and corticosteroid therapy may reduce intraocular inflammation and recurrence. Migrating feature of granuloma is clinically important and may further suggest the diagnosis of OT. Clinicians need to carefully examine comorbid conditions for OT. OT may be associated with ingestion of uncooked meat, especially raw cow liver, in adult patients.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Author Summary</B></P><P>Toxocariasis is one of America's most common neglected infections of poverty and a helminthiasis of global importance. Little is known about the epidemiologic, demographic, and clinical features of ocular toxocariasis (OT) in adult patients, and the treatment regimen for OT has not been standardized. We conducted a retrospective cohort study examining the clinical features, serologic markers, clinical course of granuloma, probable infection sources, and treatment outcome in 101 adult patients diagnosed clinically and serologically with OT. All the patients had unilateral involvement. Ninety-three (92.1%) and 78 (77.2%) of 101 adult patients had retinal granuloma and intraocular inflammation, respectively. In addition to retinal granuloma, retinal nerve fiber layer defect, epiretinal membrane, vitreous opacity, retinal detachment, macular edema, and macular hole were observed in the eyes with OT. Granuloma in OT can involve all retinal layers, and its intraocular migration was observed in 15 patients (16.1%). Among the 101 patients, 69.6% and 11.6% showed elevated immunoglobulin E levels and eosinophilia, respectively. We believe that OT may be associated with ingestion of uncooked meat, especially cow liver, in adult patients. Furthermore, we suggest that combined albendazole and corticosteroid therapy may reduce intraocular inflammation and recurrence.</P></▼2>

        Dirac electrons in a dodecagonal graphene quasicrystal

        <P>Quantum states of quasiparticles in solids are dictated by symmetry. We have experimentally demonstrated quantum states of Dirac electrons in a two-dimensional quasicrystal without translational symmetry. A dodecagonal quasicrystalline order was realized by epitaxial growth of twisted bilayer graphene rotated exactly 30 degrees. We grew the graphene quasicrystal up to a millimeter scale on a silicon carbide surface while maintaining the single rotation angle over an entire sample and successfully isolated the quasicrystal from a substrate, demonstrating its structural and chemical stability under ambient conditions. Multiple Dirac cones replicated with the 12-fold rotational symmetry were observed in angle-resolved photoemission spectra, which revealed anomalous strong interlayer coupling with quasi-periodicity. Our study provides a way to explore physical properties of relativistic fermions with controllable quasicrystalline orders.</P>

        Host-dependent suppression of RNA silencing mediated by the viral suppressor p19 in potato.

        <P>p19 protein encoded by tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV) is known as a suppressor of RNA silencing via inhibition of small RNA-guided cleavage in plants. In this study, we generated TBSVp19-expressing patatin-RNAi transgenic potatoes to identify the inhibitory mechanisms of RNA silencing mediated by TBSVp19. In TBSVp19-expressing patatin-RNAi lines, reduction of patatin-derived siRNA accumulation and complementation of patatin transcripts were detected in comparison with the non-TBSVp19-expressing patatin-RNAi line, suggesting that TBSVp19 suppresses the siRNA-mediated silencing pathway. Interestingly, no apparent effect on the accumulation of miRNA168 and other miRNAs was detected in TBSVp19-expressing lines; previous studies reported that p19 induced the accumulation of both miRNA168 and its target Argonaute 1 (AGO1) mRNA, but suppressed AGO1 translation via up-regulation of miRNA168 in Arabidopsis. In addition, the expression of Argonaute 1 (AGO1-1 and AGO1-2) and Dicer-like 1 (DCL1) was not significantly altered in p19-expressing lines. Interestingly, no translational inhibition of AGO1 mediated by p19 was detected. These results suggest that p19 suppresses siRNA-mediated silencing in potato, but may not affect miRNA-mediated silencing, possibly due to the host-dependent manner of p19 activity.</P>
