        Statistical Analysis of Mortality Associated with Anesthesia and Surgery in a Hospital from 2000 to 2004

        BACKGROUND: Surgical patients should be provided adequate information on operation. The information on mortality is extremely important among them. The purposes of this study are to investigate the recent mortality associated with anesthesia and surgery, and to get a logistic regression model of mortality based on patient information. METHODS: We collected all of the anesthetic cases except local anesthesia during 5 years (between 2000 and 2004) in a hospital. All deaths within 7 days after anesthesia were retrieved. These data were analyzed in terms of age, gender, department in charge, time point after anesthesia, elective or emergency surgery, type of anesthesia, operation name, and diagnosis. The combined effects of the variables on the mortality were evaluated with logistic regression. The causes of death were also analyzed. RESULTS: There were 155 deaths among 74,458 patients under anesthesia. Age less than 1 year old or greater than 80 years old, male gender, department of thoracic surgery, emergency operation, cardiovascular surgery, and diseases for transplantation had higher mortality than their counterparts. Regression model was followed with assignment of '1' for the above mentioned categories. Other categories were designated by '0'. Log[p (death)/{1-p (death)}] = -9.15+1.03xage+0.66xsex+0.79xdepartment+2.77xemergency+2.52 xdiagnosis+0.89xoperation The leading cause of death was sepsis (21.9%). CONCLUSIONS: The average of mortality within 7 days after anesthesia was 21 per 10,000 anesthetic cases (0.21%). Estimated mortality based on logistic regression ranged from 0.01% to 10.25% depending on patient information.

        Analysis of the Description of Ventilator Parameters in Recent Papers Relating Artificial Ventilation Using Anesthesia Machine

        BACKGROUND: Procedures in medical papers should be described in sufficient detail to allow other researchers to reproduce the results. The apparatus including anesthesia machine should be given, too. Anesthesia machine has dramatically improved as bioengineering has developed. There are several ventilator settings in modern anesthesia machines. However, it seems that only a few ventilator settings are described even though modern ventilators are used in research. The purpose of this study is to investigate that how many ventilator parameters were described in the papers of the Korean Journal of Anesthesiology from 2001 to 2006. METHODS: All of papers with human general anesthesia were reviewed except case reports, and papers regarding only induction or intubation procedures. Recruited articles were grouped into papers with strongly related to respiratory parameters (STP), and into ones with slightly related to them based on the research topics. The description of following categories was counted in each paper; the type of anesthesia machine, tidal volume, respiratory rate, inspiratory:expiratory ratio, mode of ventilation, pressure set in pressure targeted ventilation, positive end expiratory pressure, inspiratory pause, and inspiratory rising rate. RESULTS: The description rate of each parameters in STP were 36% in the type of anesthesia machine, 66% in tidal volume, 54% in respiratory rate, and 24% in inspiratory:expiratory ratio. The other settings were seldomly mentioned. CONCLUSIONS: Description on the ventilator parameters was sometimes missed. We should describe adequate ventilator settings to reproduce the results because the modern anesthesia machine has additional ventilator options.

        Analysis on Cognitive Changes of Gardens between 2014 and 2018 by Big Data of Naver Channel

        Background and objective: This study analyzed the keywords related to 'garden' based on data in 2014 and 2018, which isbefore and after the enforcement of the 'Act on the Creation and Furtherance of Arboretums and Gardens' enacted in 2015,in order to identify the behavioral patterns and perception changes of Korean citizens about gardens. Methods: The research scope was limited to Naver Blog, Café, and News created in 2014 and 2018, and a total of 289,214cases (23,389 from Naver News, 41,721 from Naver Café, 224,104 from Naver Blog) were analyzed using text mining,which is a method of big data analytics. As a result of keyword analysis, the diversity of data and the amount of buzzincreased by approximately 9.4% from 138,127 cases in 2014 to 151,087 cases in 2018, proving the change in publicperception due to the expanded perception and policy about the scope of gardens. Results: The result of sentiment analysis revealed that, unlike the past in which gardens were merely for tending anddecorating, gardens today are undergoing changes in the patterns of use, performing more complicated roles such astaking photographs, dining, having fun, and hanging out. Gardens now coexist with commercial facilities such asrestaurants or cafes where people can relax and enjoy sights or food regardless of their sizes or ownerships, which indicatesthat garden culture is becoming more popular in everyday places. This change is brought by government policies, implyingthat the nation's legislation and policy support in expanding the garden culture has a significant impact on the patterns ofgarden use among people today. Conclusion: The analysis results of this study have significance in that they more objectively show the change in citizenperception of gardens in line with the garden culture in Korea that is rapidly spreading. The results can also be effectivelyused in organizing various garden projects that meet the needs of garden visitors, making plans and developing programs,or managing gardens.

        자폐 범주성 장애의 조기 선별 및 진단 과정의 가족지원을 위한 국내외 문헌분석

        본 연구는 자폐 범주성 장애(ASD)의 조기 선별 및 진단 과정에서의 가족지원을 위한 국내외 관련 연구들을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 선별 및 진단 과정에서의 가족지원 실제와 연구 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2013년부터 2022년 사이에 발표된 국내외논문 중 ASD 조기 선별 및 진단 과정에서의 가족지원을 다룬 연구 총 23편을 선정하여 개괄적인 분석을 실시하였고, 조기 선별 및 진단 과정에서의 가족지원 요구 및 선별 및 진단 과정에서 제공된 가족지원의 특성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, ASD 진단 과정을 다룬 논문이 13편으로 가장 많았고, 선별과 진단 과정을 함께 다루거나 선별 과정만 다룬 논문도 10편이 있었다. 둘째, ASD 선별 및 진단 과정을 거치는 가족들의 요구 중에서는 정보적 요구와 실제적 요구가 가장 많았다. 셋째, 선정된 논문 중 조기 선별 및 진단 과정에서 실제로 가족을 지원한 연구 8편을 분석한 결과 ASD에 대한 이해 증진을 공통적인 중재 요소로 포함하고 있었으나 세부적인 중재 내용은 연구마다 차이가 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 ASD 영유아와 가족을 위한 ASD의 조기 선별 및 진단 과정의 가족지원 관련 실제에 대한 시사점과 후속연구에 대한 방향을 제시하였다. This study analyzed domestic and international studies on family support in the early screening and diagnosis process of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and sought to explore the practice and research direction of family support in the screening and diagnosis process. A total of 23 studies on family support in early screening and diagnosis process of ASD published between 2013 and 2022 were selected and analyzed in terms of overall study characteristics, family support needs, and support implementation during the process. The results were as follows. First, 13 articles dealt with the ASD diagnosis process, while 10 articles dealt with both the screening and diagnosis processes or only the screening process. Second, informational and practical needs were the most common among the needs of families going through the ASD screening and diagnosis process. Third, eight of the selected studies actually supported families during the early screening and diagnosis process, and while improving understanding of ASD was a common intervention, the specific interventions varied across studies. Based on these findings, implications for practices and directions for further studies were suggested.

        <P>A new binding strategy of linking quantum dots (QDs) to magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) using DNA interaction with metal coordination bonding was developed. Platinum was selected for binding QDs to DNA.         One step synthesis of quantum dot–magnetic nanoparticle heterodimers for dual modal imaging applications

        <P>Dual modal nanoprobes are promising tools for accurately detecting target molecules as part of the diagnosis of diseases including cancers. We have explored a new dual modal bioimaging probe that is comprised of a quantum dot (QD)-magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) hybrid. The MNP-QD heterodimers explored are fabricated by using a platinum-guanine coordination bonding guided self-assembly process, employing the metal-DNA conjugation method. Investigations utilizing energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) equipped high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) demonstrate that the heterodimer contains an iron (Fe) dominant MNP and a cadmium (Cd) dominant QD. Finally, the results of cell studies show that the MNP-QD conjugates display good HeLa cell uptake in the absence of non-specific binding to the cell membrane and, as such, they can be used to label cells in vitro and in vivo as part of a new cell imaging technique.</P>

        Phylogenetic analysis of two <i>Plectus</i> mitochondrial genomes (Nematoda: Plectida) supports a sister group relationship between Plectida and Rhabditida within Chromadorea

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Plectida is an important nematode order with species that occupy many different biological niches. The order includes free-living aquatic and soil-dwelling species, but its phylogenetic position has remained uncertain. We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genomes of two members of this order, <I>Plectus acuminatus</I> and <I>Plectus aquatilis</I> and compared them with those of other major nematode clades. The genome size and base composition of these species are similar to other nematodes; 14,831 and 14,372bp, respectively, with AT contents of 71.0% and 70.1%. Gene content was also similar to other nematodes, but gene order and coding direction of <I>Plectus</I> mtDNAs were dissimilar from other chromadorean species. <I>P. acuminatus</I> and <I>P. aquatilis</I> are the first chromadorean species found to contain a gene inversion. We reconstructed mitochondrial genome phylogenetic trees using nucleotide and amino acid datasets from 87 nematodes that represent major nematode clades, including the <I>Plectus</I> sequences. Trees from phylogenetic analyses using maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods depicted Plectida as the sister group to other sequenced chromadorean nematodes. This finding is consistent with several phylogenetic results based on SSU rDNA, but disagrees with a classification based on morphology. Mitogenomes representing other basal chromadorean groups (Araeolaimida, Monhysterida, Desmodorida, Chromadorida) are needed to confirm their phylogenetic relationships.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The phylogenetic position of Plectida within Chromadorea (Nematoda) remains uncertain. </LI> <LI> We determined two new mitochondrial genome sequences of <I>Plectus</I>, the first representatives of the order Plectida. </LI> <LI> Mitochondrial genome trees depicted Plectida as the sister group to all other chromadorean nematodes (Rhabditida). </LI> <LI> The mitochondrial gene arrangement of <I>Plectus</I> is unique, and has no shared gene clusters with other chromadorean members. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        COVID-19 아카이브를 위한 기록 수집 방안 연구

        COVID-19 아카이브는 재난 아카이브의 일종으로서 재난에 관한 기록을 수집하기 위해서는 재난 발생과 복구 과정에서 실시간으로 생산되는 기록을 수집하는 과정이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 국내외 COVID-19 아카이브 현황을 파악하기 위해 재난 아카이브 관련 정의와 목적을 정리하고, COVID-19 아카이브 수집 정책 수립에 참고가 될 수 있는 해외 재난 아카이브 수집 정책을 살펴보았다. 또한 국내외에서 관련 아카이브를 구축·운영하는 기관을 대상으로 설문조사와 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 이를 통해 수집 정책과 수집 방법에 대한 개선의 필요성이 존재함을 인식하고 COVID-19 아카이브를 위한 기록 수집 방안을 다음과 같이 제안하였다. 첫째, 수집 정책 수립을 위해 설문조사에서 확인된 보편적인 요소들을 추가적으로 제안할 수집 정책 요소로 선정하였다. 둘째, 참여자 집단의 다양화를 위해 수집 대상의 명확한 정의 도입과 유관 부서와의 협력을 통한 기록콘텐츠 제작 등 홍보 방식의 다각화, 기록기증에 제한이 되는 저작권 관련 사항의 개선을 제안하였다. 셋째, 참여형 기록 수집 방식의 도입과 이에 따른 참여양식의 효과적인 설계, 개인정보보호 관련 사항의 개선이 필요함을 제시하였다. COVID-19 Archives are some of the Disaster Archives. It is necessary to collect disaster records produced in real-time at the disaster scene rather than start collecting records after the disaster recovery. Therefore, this study summarized the definition and purpose of disaster archives to understand the current status of domestic and foreign COVID-19 archives and examined overseas disaster archive collection policies that can be referenced in establishing a COVID-19 archive collection policy. In addition, surveys and interviews were conducted on institutions that establish and operate related archives at home and abroad. As a result, record collection Improvement plans for the COVID-19 archive were proposed: Firstly, in terms of collection policy improvements, the essential elements identified in the survey were selected as additional collection policy elements. Secondly, diversification of participants' groups requires the introduction of clear definitions of collection targets, diversification of promotional methods such as recording record contents through collaboration with related departments, and improving copyright issues that limit record donation. Thirdly, participatory record collection methods with efficient questionnaires in participatory forms and privacy issues are proposed as improvement plans.

        모바일 환경에서 감성을 기반으로 한 영상 합성 기법 연구 및 개발

        최근 스마트폰 카메라의 성능은 디지털 카메라 못지않게 발전하고 있다. 이에 따라 점점 더 많은 사람들이 사진촬영을 하게 되고, 사진 관련 어플리케이션에 대한 관심은 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 하지만 현재 나와 있는 사진 합성 프로그램은 여러 장의 사진을 배치하는 방법, 기존 이미지를 플러그인 이미지에 포개는 방법 등으로 단순한 합성 프로그램에 머물러 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 모델은 얼굴 표정에서 추출한 감정을 기반으로 이에 맞는 배경을 합성하고 효과 필터를 적용하여 기존 사진 합성 프로그램보다 다양한 분야에서 활용할 수 있는 확장성을 가진 기법을 제시하였다. Camera performance of smartphone recently has been developed as much as the digital camera. Interest in applications As a result, many people take pictures and the number of people who are interested in application according to photos has been steadily increasing. However, there are only synthesis programs which are arraying some photos, overlapping multiple images. The model proposed in this paper, base on the emotion that is extracted from the facial expressions by combining the background and applying effects filters. And it can be also utilized in various fields more than any other synthesis programs.
