In this paper, we proposed a lightweight acoustic metamaterial that can reduce the low band noise in everyday life. The proposed acoustic metamaterial is a structure in which the unit structure including the square resonator can reduce noise around 500Hz, and it is easy to manufacture by FDM type 3D printer and has a relatively light feature. As a result of the structural optimization by checking the maximum loss frequency according to the change of each parameter of the unit structure, it was confirmed that the maximum loss of 67dB at 478Hz and the bandgap characteristics of 448-546Hz. In order to verify the performance of various acoustic metamaterials, a simple acoustic measurement system based on Raspberry Pi was developed considering economics and portability. The previously studied structure was fabricated and measured to confirm the frequency cut-off characteristics of acoustic metamaterials through experiments for verifying the performance of the simple acoustic measurement system.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder characterized by multiple gastrointestinal hamartomatous polyps and mucocutaneous pigmentation. Peutz-Jeghers syndrome has an incidence of approximately 1 in 25,000 to 300,000 births. Crohn`s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that typically manifests as regional enteritis with its incidence ranging from 3.1 to 14.6 cases per 100,000 person-years in North America. Herein, we report a case of a 30-year-old male patient who had both Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and Crohn`s disease. We believe that this is the first case in Korea and the second report in the English literatures on Peutz-Jeghers syndrome coincidentally accompanied by Crohn`s disease. Effects of Saccharin Intake on Hippocampal and Cortical Plasticity in Juvenile and Adolescent Rats

The sensory system is developed and optimized by experiences given in the early phase of life in association with other regions of the nervous system. To date, many studies have revealed that deprivation of specific sensory experiences can modify the structure and function of the central nervous system; however, the effects of sensory overload remains unclear. Here we studied the effect of overloading the taste sense in the early period of life on the synaptic plasticity of rat hippocampus and somatosensory cortex. We prepared male and female Sprague Dawley rats with ad libitum access to a 0.1% saccharin solution for 2 hrs per day for three weeks after weaning on postnatal day 22. Saccharin consumption was slightly increased in males compared with females; however, saccharin intake did not affect chow intake or weight gain either in male or in female rats. We examined the effect of saccharin-intake on long term potentiation (LTP) formation in hippocampal Schaffer collateral pathway and somatosensory cortex layer IV - II/III pathways in the 6-week old saccharin-fed rats. There was no significant difference in LTP formation in the hippocampus between the control group and saccharin-treated group in both male and female rats. Also in the somatosensory cortex, we did not see a significant difference in LTP among the groups. Therefore, we conclude that saccharin-intake during 3~6 weeks may not affect the development of physiological function of the cortical and hippocampal synapses in rats.
Electromagnetic Shielding Characteristics of Eco-Friendly Foamed Concrete Wall

<P>The electromagnetic shielding characteristics according to the material composition of foamed concrete, which was manufactured to reduce environmental pollution and to economically apply it in actual building walls, were researched herein. Industrial by-products such as ladle furnace slag (LFS), gypsum, and blast furnace slag (BFS) were added to manufacture foamed concrete with enhanced functionalities such as lightweight, heat insulation, and sound insulation. The electrical characteristics such as permittivity and loss tangent according to the foam and BFS content were calculated and measured. Free space measurement was used to measure the electromagnetic shielding characteristics of the actually manufactured foamed concrete. It was confirmed that electromagnetic signals were better blocked when the foam content was low and the BFS content was high in the measured frequency bands (1–8 GHz) and that approximately 90% of the electromagnetic signals were blocked over 4 GHz.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this paper, we propose a formula for modeling dielectric properties for evaluating the electromagnetic transmission of foamed concrete (FC) widely used as building materials. This includes the effective permittivity and loss tangent according to the foam content of FC mixes containing blast furnace slag (BFS), as well as the content of the BFS, by modifying the dielectric modeling formula for porous foam materials. The difference between the permittivity calculated using the proposed modeling formula and the actual measured permittivity ranges from 0.2% to 2.6%. The calculated result and the measured value are approximately the same. The transmission properties of FC were calculated using the calculated dielectric property values. FC samples containing BFS were fabricated using different foam and BFS content, and their transmission properties were measured, the results of which coincided well with the simulation results. In order to improve the control of large unresectable(〉6cm) and fixed N3(TNM-UICC) metastatic neck nodes, local hyperthermia(HT) has been combined with radiation therapty (RT) in Yonsei cancer center. From April 1985 to april 1988, a total of 18 patients of head and neck cancer with metastatic large unresectable and fixed cervical neck nodes who underwent combined RT and HT were analyzed. Of 18 patients, complete response rate was 39% (7 pt.) partial response 39% (7 pt.) and overall response rate was 78%. Acute side effects of these combined modalities were found in 8 patients and which were mainly cutaneous reaction such as erythema, dry and moist desquamation but recovered spontaneously in all patients after treatment. Factors of maximum tumor temperature above 43℃ and MDF(multiple daily fractionation) showed more favorable response rate but not statistically sinificant. Two year actuarial survival rate of all patients was 35.4%.

In this paper, we studied the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of eco-friendly foamed concrete which is lightweight, heat and sound insulation, which can reduce the economical cost and environmental pollution. The foamed concretes were fabricated with ladle furnace slag, gypsum and blast furnace slag which are industrial by-products. Electrical properties like dielectric constant and loss tangent were measured to simulate the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of the fabricated foamed concrete walls. The free-space measurement method was used to measure and analyze the electromagnetic transmission characteristics of 1~8GHz band depending on the content of foams and blast furnace slag. From the measurement results, it was confirmed that the electromagnetic wave was transmitted at -10dB(90%) at 4GHz or less. The results of this study can be applied to the research for improving the spectral efficiency through the efficient wireless network design and reducing the human body effect by electromagnetic waves in the indoor space where foamed concrete is applied.

Among the patients with rectal cancer who entered Yonsei University Hospital for management from Jan. 1980 to Dec. 1990, we selected 23 subjects who were received surgical resection of tumor in rectum, and who proved to have liver metastasis during the diagnostic work-up, at the time of the operation, of within 3 months after starting definitive treatment. With those subjects, we investigated the role of radiation therapy by comparison of the treatment results of the patients without radiation therapy (S group) with those of the patients with radiation therapy to the primary site (S+R group). The local control rates of S group and S+R group were 64% and 89%, and 2-year survival rates were 50% and 78%, respectively. Although there was not statistically meaningful difference, local control rate and 2-year survival rate were higher in the group with radiation therapy to primary site than that without radiation therapy. The 2-year survival rates of the case with resection of the liver and the case without it were 636% and 58.3% respectively, which was not statistically significant. Also, the 2-year survival rate of the case with sustained local control was higher than that of the case with local failure, which was statistically significant (76.5% and 16.7%, p<0.005). From the above results, it is thought that radiation therapy to the primary site might improve the local control rate even in the patients with liver metastasis, which seems to be correlated to the higher survival rate.
A Role for buttonhead in the Early Head and Trunk Development in the Beetle Tribolium castaneum

The head gap gene buttonhead (btd) is required for the patterning of head segments in the early Drosophila embryo. Mutant phenotypes of btd display a gap-like phenotype in which antennal, intercalary, mandibular and the anterior portion of the maxillary segments are eliminated. In agreement with the phenotypes, btd is expressed in a stripe covering the head segments at the blastoderm stage. During the early phase of the germband extension, btd is expressed in stripes with single segmental periodicity, which is required for the formation of the peripheral nervous system. In contrast to the key role of btd in Drosophila embryonic development, it has been suggested that Tribolium ortholog of btd (Tc-btd) is dispensable for embryonic head development. In order for better understanding of the requirement of Tc-btd in the early Tribolium embryo, we re-analyzed the expression patterns and functions of Tc-btd during embryonic segmentation. Tc-btd is expressed in segmental stripes at the stages of blastoderm and germband elongation. Up to 28.3% of embryos in which Tc-btd is knocked down displays the loss of antennal, mandibular and the pregnathal regions in the head, with abdominal segments being disrupted in the trunk. Our findings suggest that Tc-btd is required for the head and trunk development in the early Tribolium embryo.
