Background Streptomyces seoulensis has contributed to the discovery and initiation of extensive research into nickel superoxide dismutase (NiSOD), a unique type of superoxide dismutase found in actinomycetes. Still so far, there is no information about whole genome sequence of this strain. Objective To investigate complete genome sequence and perform bioinformatic analyses for genomic functions related with nickel-associated genes. Methods DNA was extracted using the Wizard Genomic DNA Purification Kit then sequenced using a Pacific Biosciences SMRT cell 8Pac V3 DNA Polymerase Binding Kit P6 with the PacBiov2 RSII platform. We assembled the PacBio longreads with the HGAP3 pipeline. Results We obtained complete genome sequence of S. seoulensis, which comprises a 6,339,363 bp linear chromosome. While analyzing the genome to annotate the genomic function, we discovered the nickel-associated genes. We observed that the sodN gene encoding for NiSOD is located adjacent to the sodX gene, which encodes for the nickel-type superoxide dismutase maturation protease. In addition, several nickel-associated genes and gene clusters-nickel-responsive regulator, nickel uptake transporter, nickel–iron [NiFe]-hydrogenase and other putative genes were also detected. Strain specific genes were discovered through a comparative analysis of S. coelicolor and S. griseus. Further bioinformatic analyses revealed that this strain encodes at least 22 putative biosynthetic gene clusters, thereby implying that S. seoulensis has the potential to produce novel bioactive compounds. Conclusion We annotated the genome and determined nickel-associated genes and gene clusters and discovered biosynthetic gene clusters for secondary metabolites implying that S. seoulensis produces novel types of bioactive compounds.
실내 위치 측위를 통한 D2D 통신 성공 확률 (Opportunity Probability) 측정 및 예측

본 논문에서는 실내 측위를 진행하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 D2D 통신 성공 확률인 Opportunity probability (OP)를 예측 및 측정하여 그 값을 비교하는 실험을 소개한다. 실내 측위를 위해서 스마트폰의 관성 측위 센서와 이를 보정하기 위한 딥러닝 네트워크, 그리고 WiFi RTT를 융합한 측위 기법이 사용되었다. 그 결과 OP값을 중위값 90% 이상으로 예측하는 데 성공하였다.

The Chemical Substances Control Act has been legislated to counter the risks posed by chemical substances to public health and the environment, but a number of small- and large-scaled incidents related to hazardous chemicals continue to occur every year. The Korean Ministry of Environment takes legal responsibility for prevention, preparedness, and response to nationwide chemical accidents under the Chemical Substances Control Act. The determination of chemical accidents that occur during hazardous chemical handling processes is based on the Article 2 (Definitions) of the law and the administrative criteria for judgement of chemical accidents. However, there are certain ambiguities in the scientific basis for determining chemical accidents under the current regulations. Whether or not a chemical accident has a direct influence on penalties and administrative measures for a workplace where an accident occurred, it is necessary to find reasonable criteria for determining chemical accident based on legal and scientific evidence.

Objective: The objectives of this study are to update the information on the characteristics of humidifier disinfectant (HD) usage with HD associated health problems and to discuss the role of HD exposure assessment in the national program to monitor health problems in patients with HD associated diseases. Method: A total of 201 HD associated patients who registered to undergo clinical examination at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital was interviewed to acquire their responses regarding several HD use characteristics, including type of HD brands used, HD use duration, average daily HD use hours, and the volume of the room in which HD was used. The responses of the HD associated patients to HD use-related questions were compared between responses in the lung injury investigation and this study. Results: The responses of HD associated patients in this study were found to be different from those in the lunginjury investigation. In particular, some of the patients who had not answered in the lung-injury investigation were able to answer thanks to assistance from the investigator in this study. For their responses regarding the name of the most commonly used HD brand, the number of patients who did not answer (N=11) was reduced to eight in this study. Significant changes in the responses of study subjects to questions related to HD use were achieved through the interview in this study. Conclusion: This study found significant changes in the responses regarding HD use characteristics. HD exposure assessment should be included in the program in order to allow surveillance of HD associated health problems.
2008년부터 가습기 살균제 건강 피해 급증 : 우연인가, 필연인가?

Objective: The objective of this study is to report the number of humidifier disinfectant (HD) associated health problems, including HD associated lung injury (HDLI), by year. This data was analyzed by the type of HD and HD brand. Methods: A total of 530 patients registered with the national program on HD through its second round is distributed based on the year when they developed their first health problem including HDLI (N=221). The distribution of health problems at diagnosis was clinically evaluated in order to examine the association between their lung injury and the use of HD. Results: The number of HD associated victims and HDLI patients was found to rise sharply from 2008 to 2011, with a peak in 2011. This trend was found not only for HD brands containing polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG), but also chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (CMIT/MIT). The number of patients who responded to develop health problems at the specific year was 35 at 2008, 51 at 2009, 108 at 2010 and 182 at 2011, respectively. Other types of HD brands and HD chemicals did not follow the trend of abrupt increase in HD associated patients since 2008. Conclusion: This study found the number of HD associated victims and HDLI patients who used HD brands containing PHMG sharply increased starting in 2008. The significant change in the process of manufacture PHMG can be suspected with the abrupt rise in HD associated patients in specific year.
