        A combination of process modification and various additives to a lime-based spray-dryer/fabric-filter system was evaluated for its value in promoting sorbent utilization and simultaneous removal of HC1 and SO₂ from waste incineration flue gas. The variety of operating conditions were tested to evaluate important factors such as spray drying reactor(SDR) outlet temperature, retention time, molar equivalence ratio( MER ), fabric filter velocity, etc. For the sorbent activity enhancement, additives such as KmnO₄, NaOH, NaHCO₃, CaCl₂, a mixture of NaOH and CaCl₂ were added to Ca(OH)₂ at optimum operating condition. The mixture of NaOH and CaCl₂ ( 2 : 1 by weight ) was found to be the best economic additive. When that additive, 10% of Ca(OH)₂ by weight, was added, under the condition of Ca(OH)₂ of MER 1.0, HCl/SO₂ removal efficiencies at fabric filter were 98.3% and 97.1%, respectively.

      • 도시하천 악취물질의 발생원조사에 대한 연구

        This study has been carried out to investigate odor characteristics and removal methods on the water quality and sulfuric material of four urban sewage. The results from these experiments are as followings ; 1. For sediment, N contents(%) was shown 0.068mg/l at S-1, 0.109mg/l at S-2, 0.043mg/l at S-3, 1.233mg/l at S-4 and S contents(mg/g) was shown 2.192mg/l at S-1, 2.410mgA at S-2, 1.564mg/l at S-3, 15.146mg/l at S-4. The sample of S-4 was indicated the worst value to 1.233mg/l 2. NH₃, one of the representative odor materials, which was showed the highest value at S-1 in the water, showed the highest value at the S-4 in the air. It means that the cause of odor comes from the disintegration of sediment orgamisms, which has more important effect than the water pollution. 3. To control the odor materials, it is desirable to minimizes the inflow of sewage from pollutant source itself. One of the considering odor method is H₂O₂ or activated carbon input into the sewage, which has several advantages as chemical treatment of odor materials is to be desirable.

      • Capsicum chinense, 재래종 및 저항성 고추 유전자원에서 역병 저항성 계통 선발

        2000년도에 검정에서 역병에 살아남은 개체들로부터 채종하여 육성한 Capsicum chinense 31계통에 대하여 역병 저항성을 검정한 결과 고도의 저항성을 나타내는 것은 발견되지 않았다. 2001년도의 검정에서 역병에 살아남은 개체로부터 채종한 재래종 26계통에 대하여 다시 역병 저항성 검정을 실시한 결과 KC180, KC230, KC195, KC194에서 다수의 개체가 살아남아 저항성을 나타내었다. 그러나 KC180과 KC230은 각각 AC2258과 CM334와 혼종된 것으로 관찰되었다. KC195와 KC194는 재래종의 형질을 유지하고 있는 것으로 관찰되었다. CM334의 보존 증식과정에 자연교잡이 일어난 것으로 보여 이의 순도향상을 위하여 채종년도별로 시료를 꺼내어 역병저항성 검정을 실시한 결과 가장 오래된 1992년도 채종종자에서부터 약간의 이형주가 관찰도기 시작하여 1995년부터 2001년도까지 시간이 경과함에 따라 많이 변형되어 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 1992년도 종자에서 이형주를 제거하고 원형의 개체로부터 자식종자를 대량으로 채종하였다. 함께 공시한 AC2258은 순수한 것으로 확인되었다. 1995년도 채종 CM334 종자에서는 비록 혼종은 되었으나 측지발생이 적은 개체들이 발견되어 이들을 개체 선발하여 역병에 저항성이며 측지발생이 적은 계통으로 육성하고 있다. A total of 31 c. chinense lines selected from 2000 screening were tested again for resistance to P. capsici but resistance was not found in the lines. A total of 26 selections from Korean land races tested 2001 spring were tested again for resistance to P. capsici. KC180, KC230, KC195 and KC194 showed moderate resistance to P. capsici. However, it was apparent on the basis of hortivultural characteristics that KC180 and KC230 had been naturally crossed with AC2258 and CM334, respectively. CM334 and AC2248 seed lots that were increased in different years were taken out and tested for resistance to improve their genetic purity because the resistant genetic resources have been showing some off-types in the population. Off-types began to be found in 1992 seed lots and the proportion and degree of the offs was increasing with time up to 2001. Plants true to the type in 1992 seed lots were selected and their inbred seeds were mass produced in a net cage in the greenhouse. AC2258 included in the experiment number of lateral branching at cotyledonary axil, although they were off from the original in the experiment together was uniform. In 1995 seed lost of CM334, plants with resistance to P. capsici and low or no number of lateral branching at cotyledonary axil, although they were off from the original CM334, were found and selection was applied to breed lines fixed in the characters.

        Bortezomib과 Dexamthasone으로 치료한 골수외 형질세포종 4예

        Despite the use of aggressive local and systemic treatment including autologous stem cell transplantation in multiple myeloma, extramedullary recurrences are common and the prognosis of these patients is poor. Many novel drugs such as thalidomide, lenalidomide and bortezomib improve the response of treatment of multiple myeloma, but some reports failed to describe thalidomide has effect in extramedullary plasmacytoma. Recent data report on the successful treatment plasmacytomas with bortezomib in patients with advanced multiple myeloma. We treated 4 relapsed or refractory extramedullary plasmacytomas with bortezomib at our institution. We recognized all these extramedullary plasmacytomas decreased and showed more than partial response. This report lends support to the efficacy of bortezomib in the treatment of plasmacytoma and describes the safe use of bortezomib. Responses may, however, be of short duration. Therefore, despite our limited experience, we propose that bortezomib may be considered a therapeutic option for such patients who have risk of radiation therapy

        사지의 급성동맥 색전증에 대한 응급동맥 색전제거술

        Acute arterial occlusion of the extremities is often a surgical emergency and is due mostly to arterial embolus. It has infrequently been reported in the emergency department. Cardiac embolism is most commonly the result of atrial fibrillation secondary to valvular heart disease followed by ischemic heart disease. The emergency arterial embolectomy by Fogarty balloon catheter works well when the cause of occlusion is cardiac embolus obstructing normal vessels in a patient with valvular heart disease. Recently we met some patients with acute critical ischemia of the extremities due to arterial emboli in our emergency department. On physical examination, they all had symptoms of 5"P"s(pain, pallor, pulselessness, paresthesia, paralysis). After emergency arterial embolect omy, immediate improvement was observed in all patients. They were discharged within 1 week. We report our experiences with the review of literatures.

        Synthesis of Hybrid Fullerene Oxide[C<sub>60</sub>(O)<sub>n</sub>, (n≥1)] - Silver Nanoparticle Composites and Their Catalytic Activity for Reduction of 2-, 3-, 4-Nitroaniline

        Fullerene oxide[C<sub>60</sub>(O)<sub>n</sub>, (n ≥ 1)] was synthesized by dissolving fullerene[C<sub>60</sub>] and 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in toluene under refluxing condition for 5 h. Hybrid fullerene oxide-silver nanoparticle composites were synthesized by dissolving fullerene oxide and silver nitrate[AgNO<sub>3</sub>] in diethylene glycol under ultrasonic irradiation for 3 h. The synthesized hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible[UV-vis] spectroscopy. The catalytic activity for the reduction of various nitroanilines[NAs] was identified by UV-vis spectrophotometer. The efficiency of the catalytic reduction by the synthesized hybrid nanocomposites has an order of 4-NA > 2-NA > 3-NA.

      • Case Reports : Vaginal Leiomyoma: A case report and review of the Literature

        Background: Vaginal leiomyoma is a rare, benign tumor with variable clinical presentations. We report a case of a vaginal leiomyoma, diagnosed preoperatively with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Case: A 48-year-old woman with a periurethral mass was referred to our department for evaluation. MRI revealed a vaginal tumor with a benign appearance in the anterior wall. The diagnosis of a vaginal leiomyoma was confirmed following surgical excision with histologic evaluation. Conclusion: MRI can provide useful preoperative information with respect to a vaginal leiomyoma, such as the location, boundaries, and structure; however, surgical excision with histologic examination is required for definitive diagnosis.

      • Downregulation of acetyl-CoA synthetase 2 is a metabolic hallmark of tumor progression and aggressiveness in colorectal carcinoma

        <P>Acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 is an emerging key enzyme for cancer metabolism, which supplies acetyl-CoA for tumor cells by capturing acetate as a carbon source under stressed conditions. However, implications of acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 in colorectal carcinoma may differ from other malignancies, because normal colonocytes use short chain fatty acids as an energy source, which are supplied by fermentation of the intestinal flora. Here we analyzed acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 mRNA expression by reverse-transcription quantitative PCR in paired normal mucosa and tumor tissues of 12 colorectal carcinomas, and subsequently evaluated acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 protein expression by immunohistochemistry in 157 premalignant colorectal lesions, including 60 conventional adenomas and 97 serrated polyps, 1,106 surgically resected primary colorectal carcinomas, and 23 metastatic colorectal carcinomas in the liver. In reverse-transcription quantitative PCR analysis, acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 mRNA expression was significantly decreased in tumor tissues compared with corresponding normal mucosa tissues. In acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 immunohistochemistry analysis, all 157 colorectal polyps showed moderate to -strong expression of acetyl-CoA synthetase-2. However, cytoplasmic acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 expression was downregulated (acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 low expression) in 771 (69.7%) of 1,106 colorectal carcinomas and 21 (91.3%) of 23 metastatic lesions. The colorectal carcinomas with acetyl-CoA synthetase-2-low expression were significantly associated with advanced TNM stage, poor differentiation, and frequent tumor budding. Regarding the molecular aspect, acetyl-CoA synthetase-2-low expression exhibited a tendency of frequent KRT7 expression and decreased KRT20 and CDX2 expression. In survival analysis, acetyl-CoA synthetase-2-low expression was an independent prognostic factor for poor 5-year progression-free survival (hazard ratio, 1.39; 95% confidence interval, 1.08-1.79; P = 0.01). In conclusion, these findings suggest that downregulation of acetyl-CoA synthetase-2 expression is a metabolic hallmark of tumor progression and aggressive behavior in colorectal carcinoma.</P>
