Objective To develop a set of reference standards for tibial motor, common peroneal motor, sural sensory, and superficial peroneal sensory nerve conduction studies (NCSs) with expanded uncertainty in a healthy Korean population.Methods Standardized procedures were conducted for individual lower extremity NCSs of 199 healthy participants in their 20s (n=100) and 50s (n=99). Mean values and expanded uncertainties for parameters were analyzed with thorough consideration of multiple uncertainty factors under the International Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. In addition, side-to-side differences in onset latency, amplitude, and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) were analyzed.Results Mean (reference range) for distal onset latency, baseline to negative peak amplitude, NCV of tibial motor nerve in males in their 20s were 4.3 ms (3.1–5.4 ms), 7.1 mV (3.4–10.9 mV), and 50.7 m/s (42.2–59.3 m/s), respectively; sural sensory nerve baseline to negative peak amplitude in males in their 20s was 21.7 μV (8.3–35.2 μV). Including the aforementioned data, we present a vast dataset of normative mean values and expanded uncertainties for NCSs of the leg in a healthy Korean population. Furthermore, upper limits for normal side-to-side differences for onset latency, amplitude, and NCV of each nerve are suggested.Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to present the reference standards of leg NCSs with consideration for multifactorial uncertainties in an Asian population. We expect these results to help practitioners make reliable and reproducible clinical decisions.

‘옥매(Okmae)’는 ‘도요노까(Toyonoka)’를 모본으로 하고 ‘매향(Maehyang)’을 부본으로 하여 교배하여 과실품질이 우수하고 화방당 화수가 적당하여 적과노력이 절감되는 특성에 근거하여 선발한 촉성재배용 품종이다. 2006년 초세가 왕성하며 당도와 경도가 높고 대과형인 96-2번 개체를 선발, 2007-2009년에 촉성재배작형으로 특성검정과 생산력 검정을 수행하여 ‘경남 1호’로 계통명을 부여하고 농가실증 시험을 거쳐 ‘옥매’로 명명하였다. ‘옥매’의 주요 특성은 초세가 왕성하고 초형은 직립형으로 엽수는 적으며 엽형은 타원형이다. 화경장은 길고 화방당 화수는 9-10개로 적어 적과 노력이 적게 든다. 과형은 원추형이며 과색은 선홍색으로 광택이 있다. 주당 수확과수는 21.9개로 적지만 대과의 비율이 높고 평균과중이 26.0g으로 무거워 다수확이 가능하다. 당도가 11.6°Brix로 높고 산도는 0.37%로 낮으며, 경도는 14.5g·mm<SUP>-2</SUP>로 ‘아끼히메’에 비해 우수하여 저장성이 뛰어나다. 탄저병에 저항성이 없으며, 흰가루병도 다소 약하지만, 방제에 유의하면 고품질의 딸기를 생산할 수 있다. A new strawberry cultivar (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) ‘Okmae’ was developed from a cross between ‘Toyonoka’ and ‘Maehyang’. This cultivar has a good fruit quality and suitable number of flowers per cluster for labor saving in fruit thinning. ‘Gyoengnam No. 1’ was selected as an elite line with vigorous plant growth, higher soluble solids content and fruit firmness after examining its characteristics and productivity in forcing cultures from 2007 to 2009. Farmer’s field trial of ‘Gyoengnam No. 1’ was conducted in 2010 and it was registered as ‘Okmae’ thereafter. The general characteristics of ‘Okmae’ are vigorous growth habit, erect plant type, less number of leaf and elliptic leaf shape. ‘Okmae’ has long peduncle and 9-10 flowers per flower cluster which need less labor for fruit thinning. Fruits of ‘Okmae’ are conical having a bright red and glossy skin color. Although ‘Okmae’ has a smaller average fruit number per plant of 21.9 than that of the control cultivars, it’s possible to produce high yield because of greater fruit weight of 26.0 g. ‘Okmae’ showed a high soluble solids content of 11.6 °Brix, low acidity of 0.37%, and high firmness of 14.5 g·mm<SUP>-2</SUP>. It is sensitive to anthracnose and powery mildews, but high-quality strawberry can be harvested by using effective control measure.

Germinoma arising in the basal ganglia is a rare, well-documented entity representing 5% to 10% of all intracranial germinomas. And it has been known that the germinoma of the basal ganglia is usually associated with cystic formation on brain CT and MRI findings. We report a case of cystic germinoma in the basal ganglia. Although pure germinoma in the basal ganglia is generally radiosensitive and potentially curable, we have chosen chemotherapy alone in order to prevent late sequelae of radiotherapy. The patient began to receive chemotherapy without radiotherapy. After eight cycles of treatment every 4 weeks, the patient displayed a nearly complete response and was improved. No neurologic sequelae was seen at discharge. Follow-up brain CT showed no residual enhancing lesion. The patient was asymptomatic for 2 years follow-up.
Measurement of Body Weight Distributions on a Seat Pan for Various Sitting Postures

Objective: The aims of this study are to develop a body weight distribution measurement system on a seat pan and to find the weight ratios of left and right and posterior and anterior for the ergonomically good or bad postures. Background: During daily work hours, office workers’ sitting postures vary according to the work characteristics, their sitting habit, and chair specifications. To make office workers keep the good sitting postures, a bad posture alarm system can be considered. Results: We developed a body weight distribution measurement system by using four load cells mounted on a seat pan. We also measured the weight distributions for five typical postures. Conclusion: If the left/right weight ratio ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 and posterior/anterior weight ratio from 1.0 to 1.4, the posture can be defined as good balanced posture. Application: The result of this study can be applied to the development of a bad posture alarm system of chair.

경추외상 환자의 진찰에서 모든 부위에 대한 손상가능성을 염두에 두고 면밀한 검사가 필요하다. 의인성 손상을 최소화하기 위하여 환자는 적절하게 후송되어야 하고 응급실에서 철저히 검사를 시행해야 한다. 면밀하게 구성된 치료 원칙으로 치료를 시행함으로서 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 환자의 상태가 확인되면 치료는 골절의 양상과 신경학적 상태에 따라서 결정한다. 치료의 원칙은 빠른 정복에 의해 더 이상의 신경 손상을 막고 신경 회복을 최대화하며, 변형과 동반된 골절과 탈구를 고정시키는 것이다. 수술시 사용되는 전방이나 후방 접근법은 적절하게 선택된 환자에서 시행된다면 만족할만한 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 수술 후 일정기간 동안 적절한 외고정의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다. 정확한 진단과 면밀하고 합리적인 치료를 실시함으로서 치료 후의 합병증을 최소화하고 만족할 만한 기능적 결과를 얻을 수 있다. Historically, injuries of lower cervical spine were associated with a poor prognosis and result in some type of neurologic deficit. But, the incidence of cervical spine injury is increasing because of motor vehicle accidents, followed by falls and diving activities, etc. Proper initial in-field management and early identification and institution of definitive treatmem are crucial to obtaining a favorable prognosis. The Allen and Ferguson classification system divided into six pathogenesis or categories; Compression flexion, vertical compression, distraction flexion, compression extension, distraction extension, and lateral flexion injuries. If allows for a convenient mechanistic description of the biomechanical deficiencies present after cervical injury. Distinguishing between complete and partial spinal cord injuries (SCIs) is important for determining a patient's overall functional prognosis as well as an acute in-hospital treatment plan. Early mismanagement may result in preventable neurologic compromise. The current recommendation for selection of imaging studies put forth by the American College of Radiology are predicated on patient's symptom and an overall suspicion of injury. Plain radiograph can be extremely effective in diagnosing cervical trauma. It consists of three or five-films cervical spine series. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is recommended for patients with a neurologic deficit but negative plain radiographic findings. The goals of treatment are to maximize neurologic recovery, to maximize the degree of neurologic and medical comorbidities, to obtain spinal stability, to improve patient functionally, and to help the patient to cope psychologically. In cases of SCIs, high dose each type of fracture have a treatment option which included closed reduction, external stabilization device (cervical and cervicothoracic orthoses, halo vest), and corpectomy and plating or fusion.
