Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

Collecting duct renal cell carcinoma (CDRCC) or Bellini duct carcinoma is a rare type of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), accounting for 0.4% to 1.8% of all RCC. CDRCC is considered to originate from the collecting duct of the kidney and it has a poor prognosis. However, the clinical features of CDRCC remain poorly understood, mainly because only studies with a small series or case reports have been published to date. We experienced a case of CDRCC of kidney.

Patient was sixty-eight years old female. She was transferred to our department to resect the solitary pulmonary nodule on right lower lobe. Intraoperative frozen-section revealed bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. So, we performed right lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection. Permanent pathologic diagnosis of this patient was sclerosing hemangioma. We report experience of treatment of sclerosing hemagioma presenting solitary pulmonary nodule by lobectomy with the review of literatures.

The stick antimony electrode has advantage of simplicity in measuring pH. Its field of application has been very wide in industrial and medical part. But its accuracy, sensitivity and reproducibility are somewhat poorer than those of glass electrode. In this study this electrode was applied in determining pH of the solution at various temperatures (15∼30℃) under high pressures (1∼2,500 bars). The emf(E) of the cell, Sb(Sb_2O_3/ HCl(aq.) /AgCl/ Ag, was messured and plotted against pH. In this plot standard emf(E°) of the cell was obtained by extrapolation. The relationship of emf(E) and pH at 25℃ under 1 bar was as follows, E=0.034+0.05918 pH. The slopes were decreased with increasing pressure, and emf(E) was increased. These phenomena may be caused to the activities of water, Cl^-, Sb_2, Sb_2O_3, Ag, and AgCl. In plot of pressure and pH the decrease of pH values was due to the increase of dissociation constant of hydrochoric acid. Even though the stick antimony electrode could be useful to 500 bars at 30℃, it could be useful to 1000 bars below 30℃.
胎盤組織 Cytidine Deaminase에 關한 硏究 (Ⅰ) : Purification & Characterization

Cytidine deaminase has been partially purified from human term placenta approximately 26-fold by combination of ammoninm sulfate saturation, sephacryl S-300, DEAE-cellulose and hydroxyapatite chromatography, and then its properties have been investigated. The enzyme shows a broad optimum pH from 5 to 9 and is heat-stable being, almost remained its activity by heat treatment at 70℃ for 8 minutes. The enzyme activity is inhibited to 23% and 77% by 2 mM of Cu^2+ and Co^2+, respectively, but, other cations do not affect the enzyme activity. The apparant Michaelis constant for cytidine and deoxycytidine are 74 uM and 69 uM, respectively. Kinetic analysis of cytidine deminase in presence of 0.25 mM Cu^2+ shows that the nature of the inhibition to cytidine deaminase is competitive, considering that Vmax is independent while km value is increased. The enzyme activity is completely inhibited by 0. 5 mM of p-hydroxymecuribenzoicacid(PHMB)but all of the activity is recovered in adding mercaptoethanol. The enzyme activity is decreased about 50% in prescence of 5 mM of polyamines. The enzyme activity is mainly located in the nuclei (80%) and cytosol(16%) fractions. he molecular weight of the enzyme is about 770, 000.

The metal salts of various fatty acids were prepared and their SEM data are collected. The morphology of metalated fatty acids (decanoic, stearic and 12-hydroxyst earic) showed more branched thread-like clusters than those of fatty acids. Among the prepared metal salts of various fatty acids, the morphology of lithium 12-hydroxystearate (Li-HSA) showed some similarity to the reticular structure suitable to be a proper thickener in grease formulation.
電氣的 開始法에 의한 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate의 重合과 이들 膜의 電氣的 性質

The electroinitiated polymerization of 2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) has been studied at the various voltages, from 2 to 2500 volts. The rate of polymerization was increased with increasing voltages. It was supposed that the orientation and migration effect of monomer accelerating the rate. The membranes were molded between two separated glass plates. These membranes have been used to measure the membrane potentials and the transport number of Na^+ ion and water. The measured membrane potentials and calculated values, which were related by Scatchard theory, gave satisfactory agreement below 0.1m. This was due to permselectivity of HEMA membranes, which had high fixed-OH group in the pore as a pendent. The main deviations of measured membrane potentials (E_c) and the maximum possible values of electrical potentials (E_max) were due to transport numbers of Cl^-ion and water. Therefore it seems to be make an useful strong hemodialysis HEMA membranes by electroinitiated grafting polymerization.

Some coked anthracite and Mill Scale pellet was packed in a tube furnace. And then, the heating samples was reacted with CO₂ gas made from wasting acid. The results of the experiment of reduction and gasification were as follows. 1) When waste acid was neutralized by some lime stone, vields of CO₂ gas was attained 80%. 2) The amount of CO gas producted at 1100℃ was 1.37times the amount of CO₂ gas made from wasting acid, and 1.5 times the amount at 1300℃. 3) During 5 houre for experiment the rate of reduction was 78% at 100℃ and 97.2% at 1300℃. 4) When Mill Scale pellet was reducted into CO gas, the value of activation energy was 3154.2 ㎈/g-㏖. The following can be resulted from what mentioned above: The neutralization of waste acid by lime stone can be a preventive of water pollution. And we can product not only fuel gas by the gasification of the anthracite reacting with CO₂ gas, but also sponge iron by the reduction of Mill Scale. The above four results can serve as a base source for the production of those materials.

This paper presents a new vibration control device by which the mass and damping of a structure is increased equivalently. The vibration control system, named toggle-rotational inertia-viscous damper, can be utilized effectively in applications of small structural drift. Numerical analysis shows that because the relative drift of a structure can be effectively amplified by the toggle system, the device has a great performance in the vibration control without the increase of the damper capacity and size. It is also observed that vibration control effects is caused by the increase of equivalent mass and damping due to the rotational inertia and damping of the device.
