Recently, cities are to be a new limelight in developing countries. Because, They have performed important roles in promoting and spreading economic and social development of the country. This study is concerned with all cities in Korea, and has three main purposes. First one is to select the general analysis variables affecting urban growth from existing theoretical literatures. Second one is to identify the dominant factors and their changes for the growth of cities in Korea through the analysis of correlation with growth rate. It could be done by case study of growth trends of all existing cities for analysis period. The last one is to find out a formula to estimate the future growth of cities in Korea. The results of this study could offer much suggestions to establish the development strategies of cities in Korea.

        하악골에 발생된 Low grade 골육종:증례보고

        조현이,정종철,김호성,최재욱,성대경,서지훈,김성범,이계혁 大韓顎顔面成形再建外科學會 2000 Maxillofacial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Vol.22 No.1

Osteosarcoma is a primary malignant tumor arising most often in the long bone, but rare in jaw bone. Especially osteogenic sarcoma of the mandible is a rare tumor, comprising less than 0.5% of all head and neck tumors. Osteosarcoma occurs cheifly in young persons, and presenting very survival rates. Histopathologically this tumor can be classified three types, osteoblastic, fibroblastic, chondroblastic and classified from low grade to high grade by anaplasia or mitosis of the tumor cells. Sometimes, the exact diagnosis of osteosarcoma is difficult especially in low grade osteosarcoma, even if clinical or radiographical findings suggest to osteosarcoma. So suspcious to malignant bone tumor in clinical or radiological findings, biopsy should be taked from deep portion and multiple area, and sharing the patient history and radiographs with pathologist will assist in the development of the diagnosis. We report a case of low grade osteosarcoma on the mandible initially difficulty in accurate diagnosis. The patient visited our hospital for routine dental treatment but radiographic findings displayed ill-defined radiolucency with osteoid formation on the mandible. Final diagnosis was difficulty in initial biopsy but subsequent biopsy taked from deep portion presented infiltrative growth and mitosis of the tumor cell in some area with small osteoid bone formation, so we could reach final diagnosis as low grade sarcoma. We treated this patient with bloc resection of the mandible and immediate reconstruction with iliac corticocancellous block.

Late reconstruction of post-traumatic enophthalmos and hypoglobus using three-dimensional implants: a case series

Jae Hyeok Choi,Woo Yeol Baek 대한두개안면성형외과학회 2022 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.23 No.5

Post-traumatic enophthalmos and hypoglobus are common sequelae of facial bone fractures, even after reduction surgery. They are associated with functional and esthetic issues, which may lower the quality of life. These deformities frequently present late, and adequate correction is difficult. We report three cases of late inferior orbital rim reconstructions with three-dimensional printed implants to help resolve these problems. The average duration between the traumatic event and surgery was 3 years and 4 months. One patient was treated with a completely absorbable implant and exhibited satisfactory results until the implant started to biodegrade at 1 year and 9 months after surgery. Two patients were treated with a permanent implant and demonstrated satisfactory results. However, longer follow-up periods were needed. There were no complications such as infection, diplopia, or restriction of ocular motion and the patients were satisfied with the esthetic results.

An Integrated Account of Phonological Weakening Processes in English within Optimality Theory

Jae hyeok Choi 한국영어학학회 2015 영어학연구 Vol.21 No.1

The analysis of weakening phenomena may vary according to the theory you adopt and the language you choose, but in this study, vowel reduction and consonant lenition in the history of English will be explored in a constraint-based approach. In addition, most importantly, I seek to show which generalisations can equally be applied to both consonant lenition and vowel reduction in terms of a phonological theory. In this regard, I suggest a unified theoretic account of weakening phenomena involving the combination of two approaches namely Element Theory (e.g., Harris 1994, Backley 2011) and Optimality Theory (Prince and Smolensky 1993), which differentiates this account from previous analyses. I argue that the *COMPLEX[Element] constraint family, where 'element' refers to one of the primitives of Element Theory, plays a central role in analysing phonological weakening processes in English. In addition, it will be shown that both consonant lenition and vowel reduction can be accounted for within the constraint interaction between positional faithfulness constraints such as IDENT[Element] and the integrated constraint *COMPLEX[Element] which I propose.

Annual Change in Fungal Concentrations and Allergic Sensitization Rates to Alternaria and Cladosporium in Korea During the Period 1998–2022

        Choi Young-Jin,Lee Kyung-Suk,Jeong Jin Hyeok,Kim Kyunghoon,Yang Seung,Na Jae Yoon,Hwang Jae Kyoon,Choe Yunsoo,Kim Kyu Rang,Han Mae-Ja,Lee Yung-Seop,Oh Jae-Won 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.6

Purpose: Atmospheric fungi are associated with respiratory allergies in humans, and some fungal spores can cause allergic diseases. Environmental and biological factors influence the concentrations of atmospheric spores. In this study, we evaluated the climate change-induced annual variations in fungal spore concentrations and allergic sensitization rates in the Seoul Metropolitan Area over a period of 25 years. Methods: Fungal spores and pollen were obtained from Hanyang University Seoul and Guri Hospitals; they were identified and counted for 25 years (1998-2022). The study participants included patients who underwent tests for allergic diseases in both hospitals. Their allergenic sensitization rates were determined via allergic skin prick and serum tests, after which their sensitization rates to allergenic fungi and pollens were calculated. The daily climatic variables were obtained from the Korea Meteorological Administration. Results: The total annual atmospheric fungal concentrations decreased in both areas during the period. Simultaneously, we recruited 21,394 patients with allergies (asthma, 1,550; allergic rhinitis, 5,983; and atopic dermatitis, 5,422) from Seoul and Guri Hospitals for allergenic fungal sensitization evaluations over the period. The allergenic fungal sensitization rates decreased annually in both areas over that time `+(Alternaria [3.5%] and Cladosporium [4.4%] in 1998; Alternaria [0.2%] and Cladosporium [0.2%] in 2022). In contrast, the annual pollen concentrations increased with the sensitization rates to pollen in children. Conclusions: The atmospheric fungal concentrations decreased annually, with allergic sensitization rate decreasing over the period of 25 years. Allergenic fungal sporulation could decrease with climate changes, such as desertification and drought. Extended monitoring periods and further large-scale studies are required to confirm the causality and to evaluate the impact of climate change.

Anti-inflammatory effects of β-sitosterol-β-D-glucoside from Trachelospermum jasminoides (Apocynaceae) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 murine macrophages.

Choi, Ji Na,Choi, Yun-Hyeok,Lee, Jeong-Min,Noh, Ill Chan,Park, Jae Won,Choi, Wahn Soo,Choi, Jung Ho Taylor Francis Health Sciences 2012 NATURAL PRODUCT RESEARCH Vol.26 No.24

Trachelospermum jasminoides (Apocynaceae) has pharmacological effects that include anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral activities, which have been observed from various studies. Of these pharmacological effects, the anti-inflammatory capacity of compounds from T. jasminoides is not yet known exactly. In this study, we investigated the compound that can be used for the suppression of lipopolysacchaide (LPS) stimulated inflammatory responses in macrophages among the five isolated compounds. β-sitosterol-β-D-glucoside (1) was found to reduce nitric oxide (NO) production from LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells the most. In addition, compound 1 strongly inhibited the interleukin 6 (IL-6) activities of stimulated macrophages. Treatment of RAW 264.7 cells with compound 1 reduced secretion of inflammatory elements including tumour necrosis factor - alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β). Thus, compound 1 may be a useful candidate for the development of new drugs to treat endotoxemia and inflammation accompanied by the overproduction of NO.

Heat Aging Effects on the Material Property and the Fatigue Life of Vulcanized Natural Rubber, and Fatigue Life Prediction Equations

Choi Jae-Hyeok,Kang Hee-Jin,Jeong Hyun-Yong,Lee Tae-Soo,Yoon Sung-Jin The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2005 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.19 No.6

When natural rubber is used for a long period of time, it becomes aged; it usually becomes hardened and loses its damping capability. This aging process affects not only the material property but also the (fatigue) life of natural rubber. In this paper the aging effects on the material property and the fatigue life were experimentally investigated. In addition, several fatigue life prediction equations for natural rubber were proposed. In order to investigate the aging effects on the material property, the load-stretch ratio curves were plotted from the results of the tensile test, the compression test and the simple shear test for virgin and heat-aged rubber specimens. Rubber specimens were heat-aged in an oven at a temperature ranging from $50^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ for a period ranging from 2 days to 16 days. In order to investigate the aging effects on the fatigue life, fatigue tests were conducted for differently heat-aged hourglass-shaped and simple shear specimens. Moreover, finite element simulations were conducted for the specimens to calculate physical quantities occurring in the specimens such as the maximum value of the effective stress, the strain energy density, the first invariant of the Cauchy-Green deformation tensor and the maximum principal nominal strain. Then, four fatigue life prediction equations based on one of the physical quantities could be obtained by fitting the equations to the test data. Finally, the fatigue life of a rubber bush used in an automobile was predicted by using the prediction equations, and it was compared with the test data of the bush to evaluate the reliability of those equations.
