Alcohol extract of Geum Chung Cho alleviates alcohol-induced short-term memory impairment in gerbils

Chronic ethanol consumption leads to memory impairment and also induces brain damage. The hippocampus has been particularly regarded as a possible target organ of alcoholic intoxication, since this structure plays a prominent function in memory processes. Cordyceps has been used as a traditional medicine in Asian countries for a long time. Different types of Cordyceps extract were reported to have various pharmacological activities including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and immune modulatory effects. Guem Chung Cho is an artificial cultivated Cordyceps, and was supplied from GCordy (Seoul, Korea). Ethanol extract of Cordycep (50 g) was made by rotary evaporate, and resulting powder 8.29 g was obtained (yield 17%). In the present study, we investigated the effects of ethanol extract of Geum Chung Cho on short-term memory, cell proliferation and apoptosis in the hippocampus of ethanol-treated gerbils. The gerbils were divided into 5 groups (n = 10 in each group): Control group, alcohol-treated group, alcohol-treated and 0.001 mg/kg Geum Chung Cho-applied group, alcohol-treated and 0.01 mg/kg Geum Chung Cho-applied group, and alcohol-treated and 0.1 mg/kg Geum Chung Cho-applied group. Gerbils in the alcohol-treated groups were orally administered ethanol (1 g/kg) once a day for 2 weeks. Gerbils in the Guem Chung Cho-applied groups were orally administered Guem Chung Cho extract at each dosage 1 hour before ethanol consumption. Our results revealed that consumption of alcohol for 2 weeks deteriorated short-term memory, induced apoptosis, and inhibited cell proliferation, and reduced expressions of brain-derived neurotrophic (BDNF) and tyrosine kinase B (TrkB). However, Guem Chung Cho treatment alleviated alcohol-induced short-term memory impairment through enhancing cell proliferation and BDNF expression with inhibiting apoptosis in the hippocampus. Guem Chung Cho showed maximum effects at 0.1 mg/kg. Based on these results, alcohol extract of Guem Chung Cho may provide therapeutic value for the treatment of chronic alcohol-inducted brain injury. Spawning Behavior, Egg Development, Larvae and Juvenile Morphology of Hyphessobrycon eques (Pisces: Characidae) Characidae Fishes

Hyphessobrycon eques is a famous fish for ornamental fish market and aquarium. They are inhabit in regions of Amazon and Paraguay River basin. Serpae fishs were investigated 2–3 males are chased to female, and then males attempted to simulate the females abdomen. After fertilization, eggs were kept in incubators at 28oC. The fertilized eggs had adhesive and demesal characteristics and had a mean diameter of 0.92 ± 0.01 mm. Larvae hatched at 16 hrs post fertilization. The hatched larvae averaged 2.90 ± 0.16 mm in total length (LT). Complete yolk sac resorption and mouth opening occurred on the third day post hatching. At 45 days post hatching, the larvae were 12.5 ± 1.60 mm LT and had reached the juvenile stage.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the behavioral and emotional problems associated with nocturnal enuresis in Korean children. Methods : Three hundred eighteen children with nocturnal enuresis, together with their parents, completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale according to DSM-IV (DBDS), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (PHCSC). Ninety-three normal students were selected as the control group. Results : Compared to the normal control group, the mean scores with regard to the withdrawn, social problems, attention problems, delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, externalizing problems and total problems profiles were significantly higher in the nocturnal enuresis group according to the CBCL results. The nocturnal enuresis group also scored significantly higher in the ADHD and ODD profiles of the DBDS. The nocturnal enuresis group was more depressed and anxious than the control group according to the results of the CDI and STAI. The mean score of the PHCSC was significantly lower in the nocturnal enuresis group when compared to the normal control group. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that children with nocturnal enuresis in Korea have clinically relevant behavioral and emotional problems. The findings support the link between nocturnal enuresis and psychopathology in Korean children.

서울의 Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae 발생빈도(1998)

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

β-Carotene과 알코올을 섭취한 쥐의 혈액 성분변화의 상관관계

The study was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary carotenids and β-carotene on the hematological changes caused by alcohol administration into the rats. The results were analyzed using several statistical methods; SPSS computer program for measuring the mean values and standard deviations, one way ANOVA for the test of significance, Duncan method for post HOC multiple comparison, and Pearson method for measuring the correlation coefficient. The following are the conclusion from those statistical analysis. 1. ALB and TB were shown to have the most significant correlation among the blood compositions f개m the basic dietary groups. 2. BUN and CHO were shown to have the most positive correlation among those from the carrot-fed groups. 3. CA and AG were shown positively correlated, and CHO and IP negatively correlated, respectively among those from the cheese-fed groups. 4. AP was shown positively correlated among those from the alcohol-administrated groups. 5. CHO, CA and BUN were shown positively correlated, and CA was negatively correlated among those from the β-Carotene -fed groups. 6. TB and TP were not affected by the correlations between the blood composition from all the experimental groups.

재활용 폐페인트를 이용한 방청페인트 개발연구

In this study, The method to produce anticorrosive paint using reproductive wastepaint was investigated. The liquid-phase resin, BHO-500 and powder-phase paint BHO-300 were produced through wastepaint reproductive process. BHO-500 and BHO-300 could be replaced respectively polyvinylchloride resin and filler, which are thr components of anticorrosive paint. The properties of the anticorrosive paint produced through this process were excellent in comparison with the existing anticorrosive paint.

Recently are event and sport degree of satisfaction by sports consumer behavior is emerging as a alternative tourism in korea like other part of world. So many korean researchers are getting interested in this field. The central government and local government also have their interests in are event and sport for activating their economy. Because are event and sport has a advantage to enhance the national·local area's image, to attract visitors from other area or nations. But the study of are event and sport has been rarely accomplished, compared with the increasing importance of are event and sport. Futhermore, the studies has been primarily focused on commercialization of events for the sports information products. Now we need to lift our concern to are event and sports information user's satisfaction from that kinds of researchs. We have to regard are event and sports information user's as a consumer of our events. That's so important to get the high position in planning, marketing events, because the more we know about sports events and sports information user's mind, the more the possibility we have to succeed. As we know, the consumer satisfaction is the most important factor of the success of are sports events. So this study is done in the basic idea that are event and sports information user's is a kind of sports consumers behavior. The data analysis methods of this study are Frequency Analysis, Independent Group t Inspection, One-way ANOVA(Post Inspection: duncan', p<.05), Interrelation Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis and use the SPSS WIN 10.0 program.

판재에 있는 구멍 또는 이종재료 사이에서의 크랙 전파 거동

This study investigates the behavior of fatigue crack propagating between holes or holes filled with another materials. When holes or the holes bonded with another materials exist near center crack symmetrically, crack propagation rate is influenced by the bonding force of brazing part and the elastic modulus ratio of another material to matrix. It is experimentally and analytically confirmed that the center crack stops when its tip reaches near the center line of the holes and a small crack is initiated from the boundaries of holes or the holes filled with another materials and it propagates to final fracture. The mechanical behaviors of center crack near another materials are also investigated.

비강 및 비인두에 발생한 도립유두종과 편평상피암종의 p53단백 및 세포증식능에 관한 연구

The inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma are common neoplasia in the sinonasal cavity and nasopharynx, but the incidence of these tumors are very low and the study on the oncogenesis or biological activity of the tumor cells are not well known. This study was designed to evaluate the oncogenic roles of the p53 gene and the proliferative activity of the tumor cells in the inflammatory polyp, inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma. The experiment was carried by the immunohistochemical stains about the p53 protein, PCNA and Ki-67, histochemical stain about the AgNORs. and flow cytometric analysis about the DNA ploidy using the formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues. The frequency of the expression of p53 protein was 0%(0/16 cases) in the inflammatory polyps, 18.8% (3/16 cases) in the inverted papillomas, and 87.5%(14/16 cases) in the squamous cell carcinomas. The labelling index(%) of the PCNA and Ki-67 was 5.3% and 3.3% in the inflammatoy polyps, 29.6% and 25.2% in the inverted papillomas, and 51.9% and 36.8% in the squamous cell carcinoma. The expression of the PCNA and Ki-67 was distributed in the periphery of the tumor islands of the inverted papilloma and was distributed in the both of center and periphery of the tumor islands of the squamous cell carcinoma. The number of nuclear AgNORs was increased in the order of inflammatory polyps (0.96), inverted papillomas(1.34) and squamous cell carcinoma(2.09). The frequency of the DNA aneuploidy was 0%(0/16 cases) in the inflammatory polyps, 18.8%(3/16 cases) in the inverted papillomas. and 12.5%(2/16 cases) in the squamous cell carcinomas. Above results indicates that the changes of the p53 gene and proliferative activity of the tumor cells are involved on the oncogenesis and the biological activity of the inverted papilloma or squamous cell carcinoma in the nasopharynx and sinonasa cavity.

환경영향평가에 있어서 보건영향평가의 방법, 절차 및 적용에 관한 연구

Most environmental impact assessment(EIA) programs around the world require the consideration of human health impacts. Yet relatively few EM documents adequately address those impacts. This article examines how, why, and to what extent health impacts are analyzed in environmental impact assessments. This article investigates these problems and provides recommendations to improve human health impact assessment(HIA), using methods, procedures and case study. Also, a comprehensive approach for the evaluation of possible health effects in an EIA is described, illustrated with the example of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Unlike many EIAs, we estimated quantitatively the impact of aircraft-related pollution in terms of the number of affected people for aircraft noise annoyance, odour annoyance and hypertension. In addition, an analysis of health registry data on cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and a short survey on annoyance and risk perception were carried out.
