        Housewives residing in the Kyongsang-Buk-do area were surveyed to determine their ownership of Korean traditional kitchen appliances and their usages. A breakdown of the appliances for the survey was as follows: 16 tableware, 17 household utensils, 15 heating utensils, 14 ceramic and earthen pottery, 6 stone utensils, 9 cooking utensils, 9 utensils made of the dried bamboo and bush clover, and 13 dining tables ("sang"). The types of the appliances with the largest ownerships and most frequently used were as follows: The jeopsi was most frequently owned, followed by the daejeop and the jaengban. The most frequently used item was the jubal,, followed by the daejeop and the jeopsi. Among the wooden utensils, bangmangi was most frequently owned, followed by the chanjang, the che, the doe, mal and hop. The most frequently used household utensil was the chanjang, followed by the takjasang and the doe, mal and hop. The utensil the most people owned for heating was the jujeonja, followed by the seoksoe, the musoesot and the siru. The most frequently used utensil for heating was the jujeonja, the musoesot and the seoksoe, in the order. As for the ceramic and earthen pottery, hangari and dok were owned and used most frequently. The maetdol and the jeolgu, though very low in their ownership rate, were most frequently owned items among the stoned utensils. The kal and the doma were the most frequently owned and used cooking utensils. The sokuri, and the chaeban and the baguni were the most frequently owned among the utensils made of the dried bamboo, bush clover and straw, while the sokuri was used the most frequently, followed by the chaeban and the jori. Among the dining tables, the kyojasang was the item most frequently owned, followed by the seonban and the chaeksangban, while the wonban was the most frequently used, followed by the kyojasang and the chaeksangban.

        전통음식에 대한 경북지역 주부들의 의식 및 실태조사

        The purpose of this study was to survey the awareness and use for traditional foods of housewives in Kyong-buk area. The results were as follows : Residental areas were city(43.9%) and the county(56.1%). Region were divided as the north resources circle(28.3%), the east coast circle (21.0%), the middle west circle (21.7%), and the south city circle (29.0%). The performance degree of times and seasons of the year customs was Seolnal, Chuseuk, Daeboreum and Dongji in order. Preparation foods of Seolnal were deukguk, vegetablejeon, fishjeon, namul and gangjeung in order. Preparation foods of Chaseuk were songpeon, vegetablejeon, namul, fishjeon and fruits in order. The country foods were sikhae, muk, pumpkin, golbangiguk, yakga and potato in order.

      • A case of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans treated with slow Mohs micrographic surgery

        Dematofibrosarcoma protuberans(DFSP) is a rare dermal spindle cell tumor which characterized by a slowly progressive local growth and a high recurrence rate after wide excision due to its aggressive, finger-like outgrowth pattern. Mohs micrographic surgery, which ensures complete excision of the tumor and minimizes normal tissue loss, is accepted as the treatment of choice for DFSP. However, the use of frozen section for margin control in DFSP is controversial because it could be difficult to differentiate minimal residual tumor in subcutaneous tissue from normal skin on the frozen sections, and is more challenging in recurrent disease because of the scar tissue. Hence, we report a case of a DFSP treated by slow Mohs micrographic surgery, which used horizontally-cut paraffin-embeded permanent sections for better margin control.

      • Painful local skin reaction after applying ingenol mebutate in Korean patients with actinic keratosis

        Background: Ingenol mebutate(IM) is a recently marked natural extract from euphorbia pepules. Two formulations(0.015% and 0.05%) are available and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of actinic keratosis(AK). IM is appealing for its short treatment schedule(2-3 applications), which may facilitate adherence to therapy, especially for noncompliant patients who are unsatisfactory about longer treatment courses. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the local skin reaction(LSR) and pain score after applicationof the ingenol mebutate in Korean patients with AK. Methods: 16 patients who were confirmed by skin biopsywere enrolled. Two dermatologists evaluated LSR score based on six categories including erythema, scaling, crusting, swelling, vesiculation, pustulation by 0-4 points. Pain score was measured using the visual analogue scale(VAS). Results: As a result, LSR score was highest in two or three days after first application in all patients. The average of peak LSR score was 14.94 【 3.151, which was higher than reported in the other literature. The average of pain score was 7.63 【 1.204, and it was correlated with peak LSR score(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.283, p<0.001).Methods: The main focus of molecular cancer investigation is the development of new therapeutic strategies and the design of new drugs to target the genetic and biochemical genesis of malignant transformation of squamous cell. Tumor angiogenesis is essential for cancer growth and metastasis and it is resulted to malignancy progression. Inhibiting angiogenesis has been considered as an important anticancer strategy to suppress tumor growth and metastasis. Results: Our results demonstrated neferine induced ER stress and apoptosis and inhibition of tube formation in HUVEC. Conclusion: In conclusion, we have shown that neferine, a major bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid derived from embryos of Nelumbo nucifera (plant extracts) possesses anti-cancer effects, including cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, anti- angiogenesis and anti-migration in human HNSCC. These observations reveal that the therapeutic potential of neferine in treating HNSCC. Conclusion: In conclusion, LSR score tends to appearslightly higher especially in Asians of different fitzpatrick skin type compared to Westerns. Hence, Dermatologist need to be careful when using it and should explain to patients sufficiently.

      • Sweet syndrome in a child with aplastic anemia receiving recombinanat granulocyte colony-stimulating factor

        Sweet syndrome(acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis) ischaracterized by abrupt onset of fever, leukocytosis, and tender erythematous nodules or plaques. Generally, sweet syndrome does not respond to antibiotic therapy, but steroids are very effective and promptly improve skin lesion. Also, sweet syndrome is associated with a variety of disorders, including hematological malignancies and solid tumors, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, infections, medications, and pregnancy. In this case, a 5-year-old female children visited us who had painful erythematous indurated plaques on Rt. periocular and Lt. zygomaic area after using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF) for aplastic anemia. She was diagnosed as sweet syndrome induced by recombinant G-CSF, which was improved after drug withdrawl and systemic corticosteroid treatment. Herein, we report a very rare case of sweet syndrome in a child with aplastic anemia after receiving recombinant G-CSF.

      • Mycobacterium chelonae skin infection after autologous fat transplantation

        Mycobacterium chelonae(M. chelonae) is rapid-growing atypical mycobacterium which is widely distributed in soil and water. Skin infection caused by M. chelonae can be caused by surgical procedure or traumatic wound in immunocompetent patients. In this case, a 49-year-old woman presented with a 4-month history of diffuse indurated erythematous patches and plaques with yellowish discharge on both cheek area. The skin lesion has developed after autologous fat transplantation in plastic surgery clinic. AFB culture revealed yellowish and rough colonies 12 days after inoculation. M. chelonae was found in the PCR test performed with pus and she was treated with clarithromycin and doxycycline according to drug sensitivity test. M. chelonae infection occurred in this case is very rare in healthy people. But, if the patient does not respond to typical antibiotic therapy, atypical tuberculosis infection should be considered. Also, we recommend accurate bacterial identification in infection site and drug sensitivity test for effective and appropriate treatment.

      • Recent trends of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection in staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome childhood patients in Korea: A singlecenter study

        Background: Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) is a superficial blistering skin disease by S. aureus- mediated exfoliative toxin. Generally, SSSS affects infants and children younger than 5 years and has a good prognosis. But, an increasing number of methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) cases has been reported recently. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical features and courses, and to investigate microbiological manifestations and antimicrobial susceptibility test of SSSS in Korean children. Methods: From March 2003 to July 2016, a total 141 children were included in this study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the time of onset: before and after September 2011. We retrospectively reviewed medical records, microbiological results, bacterial detection sites and antimicrobial susceptibility tests of all children. Results: S. aureus infection was noted in all children. All of cultured S. aureus in 89 (63.1%) of the 141 patients were methicillin-resistant. Dividing by the September 2011, MRSA shows much higher ratio, 71.7% than previous 38.8%. Also, MRSA was detected on skin, neck, nose each 61, 41, 18 times including the overlap detection. Conclusion: In conclusion, since the MRSA infection is gradually increasing in recent years, careful consideration is needed in antibiotic selection covering MRSA.

      • A case of molluscum contagiosum treated by ingenol mebutate gel

        In most of cases, Molluscum Contagiosum (MC) is treated by curettage. However, for children, it is often difficult as they fear it. In these cases, topical therapy can be applied as another option. It has been reported that treatment with adapalene, tretinoin, imiquimod, etc. for average 8 months only acquires 50 to 60 percent of cure rate. Ingenol mebutate (IM) is a new topical drug for the field treatment of actinic keratosis, which improves symptoms in short treatment once a day for a couple of days. Recently, it was reported that IM was also effective in the treatment of MC. When applied to the MC lesion, the roof of MC was disrupted, followed by the extraction of molluscum body. Also, it is possible to promote cellular immune reaction against viral infection. We herein report a 5-year old patient with disseminated MC lesions over the whole body for 7 months who was successfully treated by IM.

      • A case of kerion celsi mistaken for ruptured epidermal cyst

        Kerion celsi is the severe inflammatory infection, caused by a vigorous T-cell mediated host response to the dermatophyte infection. In this case, it can be mistaken for other disease such as cellulitis, impetigo, furuncle, epidermal cyst. M. canis is most likely transmitted by contact of animal hosts such as cats and dogs with humans. We report the 75-year-old female who presented with a 2-month history of tender erythematous scaly plaques with pustules, crusts on Rt. scalp area. At first, from the histopathologic findings of the lesion, the patient was diagnosed epidermal cyst because of cystic-like structure in mid-dermis. But, the fungal culture revealed M. canis as the causative fungus. Herein we report a educational case of kerion celsi mistaken for ruptured epidermal cyst.

      • Machine learning-based self-powered acoustic sensor for speaker recognition

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Herein, we report a new platform of machine learning-based speaker recognition via the flexible piezoelectric acoustic sensor (f-PAS) with a highly sensitive multi-resonant frequency band. The resonant self-powered f-PAS was fabricated by mimicking the operating mechanism of the basilar membrane in the human cochlear. The f-PAS acquired abundant voice information from the multi-channel sound inputs. The standard TIDIGITS dataset were recorded by the f-PAS and converted to frequency components by using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and a Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT). The machine learning based Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) was designed by utilizing the most highest and second highest sensitivity data among multi-channel outputs, exhibiting outstanding speaker recognition rate of 97.5% with error rate reduction of 75% compared to that of the reference MEMS microphone.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A new platform of machine learning-based speaker recognition system was realized. </LI> <LI> The resonant self-powered f-PAS was fabricated by mimicking the human cochlear. </LI> <LI> Using the machine learning algorithm, f-PAS exhibited high speaker recognition rate. </LI> </UL> </P>
