        노치권(외 6명) 신라대학교 자연과학연구소 2012 自然科學論文集 Vol.22 No.-

        To study fauna of Silla University located in Mt. Baek-yang, we conducted six surveys from 29 May 2011 to 28 April 2012. We found five phyla 41 orders 197 species of animals inhabiting in this area: four phyla 27 orders 163 species of invertebrates and in vertebrates one order six species of fishes, three orders nine species of amphibians and reptiles, six orders 14 species of aves, and four orders five species of mammals. Of these species, some Korean endemic species were included: a fish of Rhodeus uyekii in a pond near main gate of this university, a frog of Rana coreana in a creek near a dormitory, and a rabbit of Lepus coreanus and a water deer of Hydropotes inermis in a grass region near a main stadium. A kind of hawk, Falco tinnunculus as a natural monument (animal) of no. 323-8, was observed on a building of medical and life science. A blue frog of Hyla japonica as a variation was found near a spring resort. Therefore, this area is considered an ecologically important area having a high animal diversity.

        In the study the bearing capacity of the eccentrically loaded shallow footing is estimated by means of the upper bound method of limit analysis. In the case of applying the upper bound, the results depend on the failure mechanism. So the failure surface is correctly studied through the model test using sand. New method is proposed to estimate the bearing capacity of the eccentrically loaded shallow footing by means of the upper bound method to apply the failure mechanism based on the model test. The propriety of new method is verified by the results of various methods. And the influences of the variables eccentricity, embedment depth, variations of contact width factor by model test using sand are also studied in this paper

        The leiomyomas of the vulva are rare benign tumors the incidence is 0.024%~0.55% in women. There are no relationship between leiomyomas of the vulva and uterus. But there are some reports that leiomyomas of the vulva and uterus simultaneously. The leiomyomas of the vulva present without symptoms and excision with biopsy is treatment of choice. Tumors of the gynecological apparatus may present without symptoms, or they may mimic other common gynecological conditions. Because of this, any vulva mass must be considered cautiously. We reported this case with a brief review of the concerned literatures.

        The diagnostic requirements were suggested and explained regarding the systems of differentiation of symptoms and signs in the second year study of standardization and unification of the terms and conditions used for diagnosis in oriental medicine. The systems were as follows; - differential diagnosis according to condition of body fluid, differentiation of syndromes according to the state of qi and blood, differential diagnosis according to relative excessiveness or deficiency of yin and yang(氣血陰陽津液辨證) - differentiation of diseases according to pathological changes of the viscera and their interrelation - analyzing and differentiating of febrile diseases in accordance with the theory of the six channels(傷寒辨證) The individual diagnosis pattern was arranged by the diagnostic requirements in the following order : another name(異名), notion of diagnosis pattern, index of differentiation of symptoms and signs(辨證指標), the main point of diagnosis, analysis of diagnosis pattern(證候分析), discrimination of diagnosis pattern(證候鑑別), a way of curing a diseases(治法), prescription(處方), herb in common use(常用藥物), diseases appearing the diagnosis pattern(常見疾病), documents(文獻調査).         국내에서 발생하고 있는 사람 브루셀라증의 임상적 특성

        배경 : 2002년 내국인에서의 첫 사람 브루셀라증의 증례 보고 이후 국내에서 사람 브루셀라증이 빠른 증가를 보이고 있다. 이에 연구자들은 국내에서 발생하는 브루셀라증의 임상적 특성을 연구하고자 하였다. 방법 : 2003년부터 2006년 7월까지 7개 대학병원에 내원한 환자들을 대상으로 WHO의 진단기준에 의하여 확진된 브루셀라증 환자들의 의무기록을 후향적으로 조사분석 하였다. 배양된 균은 삼성서울병원에 의뢰하여 16S rRNA 유전자 분석방법을 이용하여 종을 확인하였고, 표준시험관응집검사는 국립보건원에 의뢰하여 시행하였다. 결과 : 34예의 환자들이 브루셀라증으로 확진되었고, 31명이 남자였다. 혈액에서 B. abortus가 증명된 경우가 8예, 표준시험관 응집검사상 의미 있는 항체가 상승을 보인경우가 26예이었다. 환자들은 대부분 축산업관련 종사자였고, 추후 브루셀라증으로 확진된 소와의 직접 접촉을 통해 감염된 것으로 여겨진다. 국내 사람 브루셀라증의 가장 흔한 증상은 발열이었고, 위장관계 합병증이 가장 흔히 동반되었다. 치료로는 doxycycline/rifampicin이 24예의 환자에서 doxycycline/aminoglycoside (streptomycin 혹은 gentamicin)이 10예의 환자에서 6주 이상의 기간 동안 투여되었다. 치료에 반응을 보이지 않는 환자는 없었고, 재발이 1예 있었다. 결론 : 국내에서 발생하는 사람 브루셀라증의 원인균으로 현재까지 분리 동정된 것은 B. abortus이며, 소 브루셀라증의 증가로 인해 인체감염사례가 함께 증가하는 것으로 사료된다. 위험 직업군 종사자들에서 감염된 소와의 직접 접촉을 통해 주로 발생하고 있는 브루셀라증의 임상종상은 국외에서 발생하는 경우와 유사한 양상을 보이고 있으며 치료에 대한 반응은 비교적 좋은 편이긴 하나, 추후 보다 많은 환자들을 대상으로 한 연구가 필요하리라 사료된다. 사람 브루셀라증의 조절을 위해서는 소 브루셀라증의 조절이 필수적이며, 브루셀라증의 조절에 성공한 선진국의 사례를 적극적으로 도입해야 할 것으로 생각된다. Background : Since the first Korean case of human brucellosis was reported in 2002, the incidence of human brucellosis has been rapidly increasing. We performed this study to evaluate the clinical characteristics of human brucellosis occurring in South Korea. Materials and Methods : Demographic features, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic outcomes of cases confirmed as brucellosis according to WHO diagnostic criteria were evaluated. Species of Brucella isolates were identified with 16S rRNA gene sequencing method. Serologic diagnosis was performed with standard tube agglutination test (STA). Results : A total of 34 cases were enrolled from 2003 to 2006 in six hospitals. Eight cases were confirmed with the isolation of Brucella from blood and 26 cases were confirmed with titer of antibodies ≥1:160 by STA. Male (31) was predominant and most of the patients were cattle farmers. The most common transmission route was direct contact with infected or their cattle byproducts. Fever was the most prominent symptom and fatigue followed. Gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal systems were commonly complicated. Patients were treated with doxycycline and rifampin or aminoglycosides for more than 6 weeks. All patients responded well to the therapeutic regimens, but one patient relapsed 10 months after treatment. Conclusion : Brucellosis occurring in Korea has been caused by B. abortus, whose preferred natural host animals are cattle. Korean patients were infected through direct contact with bovine brucellosis. Clinical manifestations of brucellosis were similar to those occurring worldwide. Therapeutic outcomes were good among patients with brucellosis in Korea. In order to prevent human brucellosis, measures to eradicate bovine brucellosis should precede.

      • Cloning and functional characterization of pig CMP-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase(pCMAH) for the synthesis of N-glycolylneuraminic acid as the xenoantigenic determinant in pig-to-human xenotransplantation

        In this study, pig CMP-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase gene (pcmah), a key enzyme for the synthesis of N-glycolylneuraminic acid was cloned from pig small intestine and characterized. The open reading frame of pcmah was 1,734 bp encoded 577 amino acids and consists of fourteen exons. Organ expression pattern analysis reveals that pig CMAH mRNA is mainly expressed in pig rectum, tongue, spleen, and colon tissues, being the most highly expressed in small intestine. In the ectopic expression of pcmah, when PK15 cells and ECV304 cells were transfected with the cloned pcmah, NeuGc contents of these transfectants were greater in comparison to vector transfectants used as control. In addition, in the functional analysis of NeuGc, human serum-mediated cytotoxicity was elevated in the ectopic NeuGc expressing pcmah-transfected cells compared with controls. Moreover, binding of human IgM to the pcmah-transfected cells was significantly increased, whereas binding of IgG were slightly increased indicating that the human IgM type was a major anti-NeuGc antibody.         A new Middle-Late Maturity rice cultivar with Excellent Grain Quality "Hopyeongbyeo"

        Hopyeongbyeo is an anther culture derived Japonica rice (Oriza sativa L.) cultivar from the cross between Hitomebore and Hwajinbyeo by the rice breeding team of Honam Agricultural Research Institute (HARI), NICS, RDA, in 2003. This cultivar has a about 126 days growth duration from transplanting to harvesting. The short and round grain shape of Hopyeongbyeo is translucent with non-glutinous endosperm. Amylose content of rice grain is about 17.8% and high palatability of cooked rice compared with Nampyeongbyeo. This cultivar shows resistant to bacterial blight pathogenes of K1. The milled rice yield of Hopyeongbyeo is about 5.13MT/ha at ordinary transplanting culture in the local adaptability test. Hopyeongbyeo would be adaptable for the southern plain area of Korea.

      • Clinical Characteristics of Acute Appendicitis in Kidney Transplant Recipients

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Clinical characteristics of acute appendicitis in kidney transplant recipients may be different from those in the general population due to kidney transplant recipient’s immunosuppressive state and position change of appendix caused by graft.</P><P><B>Material/Methods</B></P><P>Clinical characteristics of 10 cases of acute appendicitis among 2880 cases of kidney transplantation were evaluated, including diagnostic rate, location of appendix and complication in kidney transplant recipients.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Acute appendicitis was suspected in 9 of 10 patients (90%) with acute appendicitis based on clinical and laboratory findings. Five patients (50%) presented with typical migrating pain and 1 patient (10%) had only periumbilical pain. Leukocytosis (WBC >10 000) was present in 8 patients (80%). Radiologic study revealed various locations of appendix relative to grafted kidney. Computed tomography scan was superior to ultrasonography in diagnosis of acute appendicitis. The complication rate was 50%. Complicated patients showed longer duration from symptoms onset to operation (69±48 hours versus. 25±6 hours, <I>P</I><0.05) and hospital stay (15.4±15 days versus 5.4±1.8 days, <I>P</I><0.05) than uncomplicated patients.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Clinical suspicion and differential diagnosis are needed for kidney transplantation patients with acute appendicitis. Early diagnosis with radiologic study is essential to reduce complications of acute appendicitis.</P>

      • Cloning and functional characterization of pig alpha 2,6 sialyltransferase (pST6GalNAc IV) gene

        In this study, pig ST6GalNAc IV gene was cloned from pig liver tissue and characterized. The pST6GalNAc IV cDNA has the open reading frame (ORF) containing 909 bp encoded 302 amino acids. Entire ORF of pST6GalNAc IV containing sialylmotif, ‘L’- (Large), ‘S’- (Small) and ‘VS’- (Very small) motif has a higher degree of sequence homology with Homo sapiens (90%), Pan troglodytes (91%) and Mus musculus (87%). Expression of pST6GalNAc IV mRNA in various pig tissues was identified by Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. The pST6GalNAc IV mRNA was highly expressed in tongue, muscle and heart, but not expressed in pancreas.We also established pST6GalNAc IV-transfected PK15 stable cells for observing functional characterization of pST6GalNAc IV gene. Glycosylation pattern of pST6GalNAc IV-transfected PK15 cells was detected by flow cytometry and Immunofluorescence analysis with peanut agglutinin lectin (PNA) and maackia amurensis lectin II (MAL II). These results revealed that Neu5Ac-α2,3Gal-1,3(Neu5Ac α 2-6)GalNAc tetrasaccharide structures found on O-glycan were newly produced by pST6GalNAc IV, whereas Gal-1,3GalNAc disaccharide structures found on O-glycan were decreased by pST6GalNAc IV.
