Anti Angiogenic Effects of Isorhamnetin Isolated from Persicaria thunbergii

Persicaria thunbergii has been utilized for the treatment of cancer as a folk medicine. We examined the effect of isorhamnetin, a flavonoid isolated from Persicaria thunbergii, on angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is a potent angiogenic factor found in various tumors. In this study, we found that the isorhamnetin decreased bFGF-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) proliferation and migration in a concentration-dependent manner (5, 10 and $20\;{\mu}M$) whereas, it did not inhibit bFGF-induced capillary-like formation of HUVECs. The chicken chorioallantoic membrane assay revealed that addition of isorhamnetin (10, 20 and $40\;{\mu}M$) displayed an antiangiogenic effect in vivo. These results suggest that the isorhamnetin inhibits the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells induced by bFGF, which may explain its anti-angiogenic properties.
Effect of IVM Medium and Protein Source on In Vitro Maturation of Canine Oocytes

This study was conducted to determine the ability of nuclear development of canine oocytes depend on the kind of maturation media and addition of serum sources. Ovaries were collected from a bitches at various stages of estrus cycle by an ovariohysterectomy. Oocytes were collected of cumulus oocytes complexes after slicing of ovaries with blade. The maturation medium was containing 0.6 mM/ml cysteine, 0.2 mM pyruvic acid, 20 ng/ml and 1 rbST Exp. 1, the oocytes were matured in four different maturation medium as follows: 1) TCM-199, 2) DMEM, 3) NCSU37 and 4) modified-NCSU37 with 10% FBS. Exp. 2: the oocytes were matured in mNCSU37 supplemented with different protein sources (10% FBS, 10% EDS, 0.3% BSA and 0.1% PVA) to select the optimal one. Oocytes were matured in a humidified atmosphere containing 5% at for 72 hrs. The maturation rate were analyzed by Duncan's multiple range test using General Linear Models procedure in SAS. The rates of meiotic resumption to MI-MII depend on different culture media were achieved with TCM-199 (5.2%), DMEM (5.0%), NCSU37 (7.2%) and m-NCSU37 (5.9%), respectively. The rates of meiotic resumption to MI-MII according to addition of protein source were 10% FBS (13.3%), 10% EDS (25.0%), 0.3% BSA (25.0%) and 0.1% PVA (15.4%), respectively. In conclusion, the results obtained showed that in vitro maturation media and protein supplement to m-NCSU37 culture medium tested did not promote the final steps of IVM in canine oocytes.

In this paper we study consumption-labor supply decision of an agent who prepares for retirement at a known time in the future. The agent is assumed to have a preference which is represented by a von Neumann-Morgenstern utility function in which the felicity function has constant relative risk aversion over the composite of consumption and leisure. The composite is obtained by a Cobb-Douglas function. A general problem has been studied by Bodie, Detemple, Otruba, and Walter (2004). We contribute to the literature by deriving Slutsky equations and conduct comparative statics. In particular, we show that the wealth eect can exhibit interesting property depending upon the time until retirement, as the interest rate increases.

Human malignant gliomas are highly vascularized and aggressive tumors. Angiogenesis inhibitors have shown to induce regression of a variety of primary and metastatic tumors in vivo. However, their usefulness in treating brain tumors is not wellunderstood. Angiostatin, a multiple kringle (1-4 out of 5) containing fragment of plasminogen, is one of the highly effective natural cryptic angiogenesis inhibitors. In this study, the theraperutic efficacy of a non-glycosylated and small molecular size recombinant kringles 1-3(rPK1-3) was examined in the treatment of brain tumors generated by stereotactic intracerebral implantation of U-87 human glioma cells in nude mice. Mice bearing tumors, post-7 day implant, were treated with rPK1-3(100 mg/kg/day) s.c. for 21 days. The treated animals showed suppressed brain tumor growth by greater than 71.2% along with a 3-fold increase of apoptotic index and suppressed vascularization by 78.9%, without any observable signs of toxicity. Analysis of bFGF and VEGF expression in the tumors of the treated animals using immunohistochemical methods showed near complete absence of growth factors. Our results indicate that a non-glycosylated, small molecular size rPK1-3 is an efficient tumoristatic agent for the treatment of intracranial human glioma wenograft in mice and might provide ew strategies for the treatment of brain tumors.
Rudder Gap Cavitation Suppression Using Gap Flow Blocking Devices

Development of rudder gap flow blocking device for lift augmentation and cavitation suppression is presented. In order to verify the performance of this device, cavitation visualization and surface pressure measurements were carried out in a cavitation tunnel. Numerical simulations were conducted using a computational fluid dynamics code for more rigorous verification. The new rudder system is equipped with cam devices, which effectively close the gap between the horn/pintle and movable wing parts. The experimental and computational results show that the proposed rudder system is superior to the conventional rudder systems in terms of the lift augmentation and cavitation suppression.

There are few datas on the diagnostic accuracy of rapid antigen test for pandemic influenza A (H1N1). We evaluated the performance of rapid antigen test for the diagnosis of pandemic influenza A (H1N1). During the period from 21 August 2009 to 20 September 2009, 451 patients with influenza-like symptom underwent the rapid antigen test (SD Influenza Antigen, Standard Diagnostics, Yongin, Korea) and real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) at the same time. Rapid antigen test results were positive for 65 of 90 patients with the positive results for pandemic influenza A (H1N1) on rRT-PCR assay. The sensitivity of the rapid antigen test was 72.2% (95% CI, 61.8-81.1) and the specificity was 100% (95% CI, 99.0-100). The positive predictive value was 100% (95% CI, 94.5-100) and negative predictive value was 93.5% (95% CI, 90.6-95.8).
