Objective: Yang Geouk San Hwa - Tang (YGSHT) has been widely used in Sasang Constitutional Medicine of Korea for treatment of acute inflammatory symptom, such as palatine tonsillitis, polydipsia, headache, papule, pimple however, the mechanism of its anti-inflammatory activity has not been clarified. In this study, therefore, we investigated the mechanism of the inhibitory effect of YGSHT on LPS-induced inflammation. Materials and methods: The effect of YGSHT was analyzed by ELISA, RT-PCR and Western blotting in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Results: We found that YGSHT suppressed not only the production of pre-inflammatory cytokines (IL-$1{\beta}$ and TNF-$\alpha$), the generation of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E (PGE)2, but also the mRNA expression of pre-inflammatory cytokines, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2. Furthermore, YGSHT was shown to inhibit the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and JNK1/2 and the activation and translocation of NF-kB from cytosol to nuclear in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Conclusions: These results suggest that YGSHT exerts an anti-inflammatory effect through the regulation of the ERK1/2 and JNK1/2 pathway and NF-kB pathway, thereby decreasing production of pre-inflammatory cytokines, NO, and PGE2.

Acute pancreatitis has many aetiologies. Blunt or penetrating abdominal trauma can be a cause of acute pancreatitis. We reported five cases of acute pancreatitis induced by tranditional acupuncture therapy. they visited an oriental medicine clinic and performed acupuncture therapy by long needle(about 13 cm). They compliant abdominal pain in about 2 to 24 hours later. They all visited our emergency room and found to have acute pancreatitis. We would like to present a multiple cased of pancreatitis induced by acupuncture to increase awareness for this clinical problem.

Introduction: Anorexia nervosa can affect almost every organ system, resulting severe medical complications such as energy metabolism abnormality, fi uid and electrolyte imbalances, hypotension, amenorrhea, and sometimes can make acute kidney injury. However, repeated vomiting induced interstitial nephritis is rarely reported, pathophysiology is unknown either. We report an tubulo-interstitial nephritis developed in young male with psychogenic eating disorder and hypokalemia. Case: A 26-year-old male was admitted because of known hypokalemia. He had nausea, vomiting, and diffuse muscle weakness for 3 years. His appetite was normal, but he frequently vomited especially after large meal. He had diagnosed hypokalemia and been treated with potassium supplement in the outside hospital. There was no remarkable past medical history including diuretics. Serum electrolytes were sodium 137 mEq/L, potassium 2.2 mEq/L, chloride 63 mEq/L, total CO2 61 mEq/L. Calcium/ phosphorus were 9.3/4.6 mg/dL, blood urea nitrogen/creatinine were 10/1.52 mg/dL, serum magnesium was 2.0 mg/dL. Arterial blood gas analysis showed pH 7.532, PCO2 35.5 mmHg, PaO2 128 mmHg, and HCO3 was 29.7 mEq/L. Urine Na/K/Cl/Cr were 96/81.5/12/111.12 mEq/L and mg/dL. Allele test for Gitelman syndrome was negative. Renal biopsy revealed acute tubular necrosis and tubulo-interstitial nephritis. There were nonspecifi c calcifi cation in the renal tubules below the epithelial cells. Several glomeruli showed ischemic damage without other defi nite abnormality. The patient showed improvement of vomiting after treatment with mirtazapine. Serum potassium was increased up to 3.5-4.4 mmol/L. Conclusion: Psychogenic vomiting and hypokalemia can be a risk for acute kidney injury. We report a pathology of repeated vomiting induced acute kidney injury. We suggest that the mechanism of renal damage is caused by tubular necrosis and interstitial infi ammation.

Once breast cancer cells grow aggressively and become lodged in the skeleton through migration and invasion, they interact with bone microenvironment and accelerate much more tumor growth and bone destruction. We investigated whether liensinine and nuciferine, major active components in Nelumbo nucifera (lotus), could prevent breast cancer cell-mediated bone destruction. Liensinine and nuciferine inhibited the growth of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 human breast cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting proliferation via cell cycle arrest. Liensinine treatment led to the increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, activation of caspase-3, and subsequent cleavage of PARP. Liensinine also displayed significant inhibition on the migration and invasion of both MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 human breast cancer cells compared with nuciferine. In addition, liensinine and nuciferine inhibited the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand- (RANKL-) induced osteoclast differentiation in mouse bone marrow macrophage cells and mature osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Furthermore, oral administration of liensinine reduced the osteolysis in nude mice with intratibial injection of MDA-MB-231 cells. Collectively, liensinine and nuciferine may be promising candidates for preventing and treating breast cancer bone metastasis and the resulting osteolytic bone loss by targeting both cancer cells and osteoclasts. Liensinine has more potent anticancer and antibone resorptive activities than nuciferine.

저자들은 본원에서 제왕절개술에 의해 태어난 후 약 3시간만에 사망한 dicephalus type의 conjoined twins를 1례 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Conjoined twinning is a rare congenital malformation, accounting for 1% of monozygtic twins. Conjoined twins result if twinning is initiated after the embryonic disc and rudimentary amnionic sac have been formed and if division of the embryonic disc is incomplete. Recently we experienced a case of conjoined twins, dicephalus dipus dibrachius, who had died at 3 hours of life, and performed autopsy. Autopsy revealed a total duplication of the heads, spines up to sacrum, small bowels, thymus and lungs. Two hearts existed within a common pericardium.

N/A Vibrational motions of the compaction table were investigated to select the optimal operation conditions of sand filling and compaction for the EPC process. Their modes were measured at the nine points of the table with changing the relative rotation angles between the two eccentric mass vibrators which were attached parallel beneath the table. Well-defined vibration modes were measured at the center of the table but those of left and right sides of the table were distorted regardless of rotational angle differences. The distortion of vibration modes at both sides of the table were caused by the moment generated by offset positions of two eccentric masses. It was found that the uniform vibration modes would be gathered by controlling the relative distances between the rotating axis and the center of gravity in the compaction system at the various conditions of vibration modes and rotational angle differences.

This paper presents the electrical characteristics of vertical nanowire-type tunneling field-effect transistors (VNW TFETs) based on the AlGaSb/InGaAs heterojunction for low-power, high-speed applications. The proposed devices have a very steep junction, based on broken band alignment between the AlGaSb and InGaAs layers. The extremely thin tunneling barrier increases the tunneling probability between the AlGaSb source region and the InGaAs channel region. For this reason, the broken band based on the AlGaSb/InGaAs heterostructure enhances the on-state current (Ion) of the TFETs. To optimize the electrical performance of the proposed device, design optimization using technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulations is performed. The design variables are gate length, doping concentrations, and the nanowire radius. The optimized device has a gate length of 30 nm, channel and drain doping concentrations of 1018 cm3, and a radius of 10 nm. Results confirm that the optimized TFET has a subthreshold swing (S) of 27.8 mV/dec and an Ion value of 2.57 mA/mm.

Tunneling field-effect transistors (TFETs) are very applicable to low standby-power application by their virtues of low off-current (Ioff) and small subthreshold swing (S). However, low on-current (Ion) of silicon-based TFETs has been pointed out as a drawback. To improve Ion of TFET, a gate-all-around (GAA) TFET based on III-V compound semiconductor with InAs/InGaAs/InP multiple-heterojunction structure is proposed and investigated. Its performances have been evaluated with the gallium (Ga) composition (x) for In1-xGaxAs in the channel region. According to the simulation results for Ion, Ioff, S, and on/off current ratio (Ion/Ioff), the device adopting In0.53Ga0.47As channel showed the optimum direct-current (DC) performance, as a result of controlling the Ga fraction. By introducing an n-type InGaAs thin layer near the source end, improved DC characteristics and radio-frequency (RF) performances were obtained due to boosted band-to-band (BTB) tunneling efficiency.
