        This study was carried out to investigate the influence of the dampness of concrete floor in storeroom on the quality of packed flue-cured leaf tobacco with corrugated causes for aging. The results were summarized as follows. The moisture and relative humidity conditions at the 15cm height from the concrete floor were 2.2℃ lower and 16% RH higher than those at the 300 cm height in the storeroom. Due to loading position, no significant changes in moisture content of leaf tobacco in the third layer was found. However, in the first layer, 2.4% of increase in moisture content was found. In the case of the layer, the circumference of corrugated casses was increased more largely than in the middle. During aging, the nicotine and total sugar content and pH value in leaf tobacco were decreased. Due to loading position, the pH, nicotine and total sugar content of leaf tobacco in the first layer were decreased significantly than those in the third layer. After aging, the degree of the lightness(L) and the yellowness(b) of leaf tobacco in the first layer were dropped by 3.2 and 2.5, respectively. However, the degree of the redness(a) was Increased by 0.63. Mold was occured in the leaf tobacco at the low part of the first layer.

        Mobile networks support the mobility of subnets as well as the mobility of subnets. Node mobility means that the internet connection is sustained while nodes move around. All internet connections are sustained while nodes connected on a subnet move around under the network mobility. We have implemented a mobile network system: MR (mobile Router) and HA (Home Agent) in the linux environment, confirming to the network mobility basic protocol IETF RFC3963. In this paper, we report the implementation experiences. Implementation details and some experimental results are summarized in this paper. With our implementation one can use internet service any time, and anywhere i.e., car, train, airplane, ship, etc.

        Recently, the research on the automatic mobile tractors has become active, especially steering control system. It is required that the steering system is able to robust to external loads, and to have large torque in a small area. The steering system consists of hydraulic components, mechanical parts, a steering actuator replacing the steering wheel, and a control device. In this paper, we proposed the steering fuzzy-control algorithm for automated tractor and its effectiveness has been shown by field test on the straight road, s-type road, and crank-type road.

        Torque Ripple Minimization Scheme Using Torque Sharing Function Based Fuzzy Logic Control for a Switched Reluctance Motor

        This paper presents an advanced torque ripple minimization method of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) using torque sharing function (TSF). Generally, TSF is applied into the torque control. However, the conventional TSF cannot follow the expected torque well because of the nonlinear characteristics of the SRM. Moreover, the tail current that is generated at a high speed motor drive makes unexpected torque ripples. The proposed method combined TSF with fuzzy logic control (FLC). The advantage of this method is that the torque can be controlled unity at any conditions. In addition, the controller can track the torque under the condition of the wrong TSF. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by the simulations and experiments.

        Bovine Genome-wide Association Study for Genetic Elements to Resist the Infection of Foot-and-mouth Disease in the Field

        Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals and causes severe economic loss and devastating effect on international trade of animal or animal products. Since FMD outbreaks have recently occurred in some Asian countries, it is important to understand the relationship between diverse immunogenomic structures of host animals and the immunity to foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). We performed genome wide association study based on high-density bovine single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip for identifying FMD resistant loci in Holstein cattle. Among 624532 SNP after quality control, we found that 11 SNPs on 3 chromosomes (chr17, 22, and 15) were significantly associated with the trait at the p.adjust <0.05 after PERMORY test. Most significantly associated SNPs were located on chromosome 17, around the genes Myosin XVIIIB and Seizure related 6 homolog (mouse)-like, which were associated with lung cancer. Based on the known function of the genes nearby the significant SNPs, the FMD resistant animals might have ability to improve their innate immune response to FMDV infection.

        Molecular characterization and expression of a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 8 in chicken

        Objective: A disintegrin and metallopeptidase with thrombospondin motifs type 8 (ADAMTS8) is crucial for diverse physiological processes, such as inflammation, tissue morphogenesis, and tumorigenesis. The chicken ADAMTS8 (chADAMTS8) gene was differentially expressed in the kidney following exposure to different calcium concentrations, suggesting a pathological role of this protein in metabolic diseases. We aimed to examine the molecular characteristics of chADAMTS8 and analyze the gene-expression differences in response to toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) stimulation. Methods: The ADAMTS8 mRNA and amino acid sequences of various species (chicken, duck, cow, mouse, rat, human, chimpanzee, pig, and horse) were retrieved from the Ensembl database and subjected to bioinformatics analyses. Reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and quantitative PCR (qPCR) experiments were performed with various chicken tissues and the chicken fibroblast DF-1 cell line, which was stimulated with polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly[I:C]; a TLR3 ligand). Results: The chADAMTS8 gene was predicted to contain three thrombospondin type 1 (TSP1) domains, whose amino acid sequences shared homology among the different species, whereas sequences outside the TSP1 domains (especially the amino-terminal region) were very dif­ferent. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that chADAMTS8 is evolutionarily clustered in the same clade with that of the duck. chADAMTS8 mRNA was broadly expressed in chicken tissues, and the expression was significantly up-regulated in the DF-1 cells in response to poly(I:C) stimulation (p<0.05). These results showed that chADAMTS8 may be a target gene for TLR3 signaling. Conclusion: In this report, the genetic information of chADAMTS8 gene, its expression in chicken tissues, and chicken DF-1 cells under the stimulation of TLR3 were shown. The result suggests that chADAMTS8 expression may be induced by viral infection and correlated with TLR3-mediated signaling pathway. Further study of the function of chADAMTS8 during TLR3-dependent inflammation (which represents RNA viral infection) is needed and it will also be important to examine the molecular mechanisms during different regulation, depending on innate immune receptor activation.

        Analysis of cross-population differentiation between Thoroughbred and Jeju horses

        Objective: This study was intended to identify genes positively selected in Thoroughbred horses (THBs) that potentially contribute to their running performances. Methods: The genomes of THB and Jeju horses (JH, Korean native horse) were compared to identify genes positively selected in THB. We performed cross-population extended haplotype homozygosity (XP-EHH) and cross-population composite likelihood ratio test (XP-CLR) statistical methods for our analysis using whole genome resequencing data of 14 THB and 6 JH. Results: We identified 98 (XP-EHH) and 200 (XP-CLR) genes that are under positive selection in THB. Gene enrichment analysis identified 72 gene ontology biological process (GO BP) terms. The genes and GO BP terms explained some of THB's characteristics such as immunity, energy metabolism and eye size and function related to running performances. GO BP terms that play key roles in several cell signaling mechanisms, which affected ocular size and visual functions were identified. GO BP term Eye photoreceptor cell differentiation is among the terms annotated presumed to affect eye size. Conclusion: Our analysis revealed some positively selected candidate genes in THB related to their racing performances. The genes detected are related to the immunity, ocular size and function, and energy metabolism.

        Thoroughbred Horse Single Nucleotide Polymorphism and Expression Database: HSDB

        Genetics is important for breeding and selection of horses but there is a lack of well-established horse-related browsers or databases. In order to better understand horses, more variants and other integrated information are needed. Thus, we construct a horse genomic variants database including expression and other information. Horse Single Nucleotide Polymorphism and Expression Database (HSDB) (http://snugenome2.snu.ac.kr/HSDB) provides the number of unexplored genomic variants still remaining to be identified in the horse genome including rare variants by using population genome sequences of eighteen horses and RNA-seq of four horses. The identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were confirmed by comparing them with SNP chip data and variants of RNA-seq, which showed a concordance level of 99.02% and 96.6%, respectively. Moreover, the database provides the genomic variants with their corresponding transcriptional profiles from the same individuals to help understand the functional aspects of these variants. The database will contribute to genetic improvement and breeding strategies of Thoroughbreds.

      • Application of Genomic Information for Animal Molecular Breeding in Animal Industry

        Animal genomics and breeding center works for development of livestock industry through development of breeding technologies based on genomes. Through analysis technology of genomic information with commercialization of DNA chip and development of NGS technique at present, we can select and improve superior breeding stock. DNA chip technique using microarray can analyze millions of SNP genotypes in a short period and we are studying these techniques to make a tool for genomic selection. In the United States, they made a guideline for genomic selection in dairy cattle and this guideline is utilized. In addition Semex company and CRV center use genomic selection for Holstein dairy cattle. Semex says genomic selection reduce two years compared to the existing selection, cost will be shortened 50% and improving speed will be more than 30% accelerated. In Australia, the case of using genomic information has more 10% accuracy than the case of using parent's breeding value without phenotype information. Recently development of NGS technology leads to reduction of analysis costs, increase in analysis data quantity and shorten time of analysis genome. NGS technology is innovative tool in life science. With development of NGS technology, we can expect to increase the efficiency of genomic analysis. Development of NGS technology leads us to expand whole genome study from limited gene study. Human and rodential genome is researched over the past five years, but only recently lots of livestock's genomes like cattle and pig are researched. Also for domestic, studies on livestock genome and genomic information are accomplished but we have a poor infrastructure of genomic analysis. Thus, through the application technology using SNP chip data and NGS, new breeding technology is very important for prior occupation. Animal genomics and breeding center has four strategies and these are divided by application technology. 1. Development of animal breeding and statistical genetics based on genomic information. 2. Development of genomic analysis and application technology through analysis of genetic diversity and structure. 3. Registration of traditional breeds and securing intellectual property rights based on the genome of the unique genetic resources. 4. Development of technologies for improvement of disease resistance and economic traits.
