이왕수,이상엽,안지현,송영빈,김학진,이광재,유재격,김상욱,김태호,김치정,류왕성 중앙대학교 의과대학 의과학연구소 2001 中央醫大誌 Vol.26 No.3
Estrogen is believed to decrease coronary artery disease. Protein kinase C-α(PKCα)appear to be important in signal conduction pathways. Estrogen treatment increases catalytic activity of PKCα,and activation of PKCαcan modulate estrogen receptor levels and responsiveness. And it was reported that activation of PKC can protect cells from apoptosis induced by Fas ligation. But the beneficial effect of estrogen on PKCαwas not clearly demonstrated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of PKCαafter ovariectomy and estrogen therapy in rat aorta. The results were summarized as below: 1. The significant pathological changes were not observed in the rat aorta irrelevant to ovariectomy and estrogen therapy. 2. The expression of Fas was decreased in the aorta of estrogen-treated rats than that of ovariectomized rats without estrogen therapy. 3. Increased expression of PKCαwas more marked in the aprta of estrogen-treated rats than that of ovariectomized rat without estrogen therapy. In conclusion,PKCαmay be important in signal conduation pathway on the effect of estrogen. Activation of PKCαby estrogen reduced Fas expression, suggesting that PKCαactivation may play a role in protection against atherasclerosis. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of PKCαafter estrogen therapy.

One important technique of surgical navigation is surface registration that matches coordinates in two different spaces. We proposed a novel method to extract an optimal point cloud in image space corresponding to the point cloud in patient space to improve the registration accuracy. In the hemispherical study, our proposed method demonstrated a reduced surface registration error (SRE) and target registration error (TRE) compared to the conventional method in all cases (number of points, distribution, noise). In the phantom study, the SRE and TRE were low and stable in the proposed method, with SRE reduced by 22 % and TRE by 18 % (p < 0.05). The proposed method was not affected by the number of points, distribution, or noise in the point cloud, and it could improve the registration accuracy without the aid of additional equipment.

Ankle joint provides propulsion and stability of the gait through coordination of agonist and antagonist muscles. The main goal of this study is to quantify the coordination of the ankle joint agonist and antagonist muscles during a gait. For this, we introduce a Vector cording technique (VCT) that has not previously been applied in EMG signal quantification and validate its feasibility. EMG signals of the muscles were acquired during normal gait (n = 15). By applying two muscle EMG signals in the VCT method, muscle activation could be categorized into 4 patterns of In- (First phase = 1.3±0.5%; Second phase = 6.9±1.5%), Anti- (First phase = 1.6±0.6%; Second phase = 11.9±1.1%), Tibialis anterior- (First phase = 8.1±0.6%; Second phase = 9.1±1.5%), and Medial gastocnemius- (First phase = 1.4±0.5%;Second phase = 22.1±2.2%) activations. This categorization allows us to quantify the relative activation between two muscles and the activation of each muscle over time.

<P>We report the synthesis and applications of APPE (aminophenyl propargyl ether) as a novel n-type dopant for graphene. The characteristics of APPE-doped graphene films were investigated using Raman spectroscopy as well as electron transport measurements. The Raman 2D/G peak ratio decreased by more than 40%, and the minimum conductivity voltage (Dirac voltage) was shifted to −133 V as the pristine graphene was doped with APPE, indicating that the graphene was strongly n-doped. We suppose that the electron donating property of the amine group (–NH2) is the origin of such an intense n-doping effect. In contrast, a similar molecule with an electron withdrawing nitro group (–NO2) (nitrophenyl propargyl ether, NPPE) showed a slight p-doping effect. Thus, we conclude that the doping effect of a molecular framework strongly depends on the functional substituents, which can be represented by the Hammett equation. We also confirmed that the sheet resistance of the APPE doped graphene film was reduced by ∼70%, which is crucial to enhance the electrical conductivity of graphene for various electronic applications. In addition, the acetylene group of APPE appears promising to be utilized in “click chemistry” to further functionalize the π-surface of graphene for sensors and bio applications.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>We report the synthesis and applications of APPE (aminophenyl propargyl ether) as a novel n-type dopant for graphene. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c3cp52614c'> </P>

Background : Solvents play an immense role in the industria sector. Irritant dermatitis which is more common than allergic contact dermatitis can be caused by solvents, Objective : Our purpose was to compare the skin irritancy of several solvents using human and guinea pig skin models. Methods : The skin responses to short contact with etharol, acetone, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and xylene were measured by visual scoring of erythm, transepidermal water loss and laser doppler flowmetry. Results : The results are summarized as follows . 1. Guinea pig and human skin responses to normal saline, ethanol, and acetone were nearly negligible. 2. Guinea pig skin responses to 99.9% DMSO under occlusion for 0.5 min were assessed by visual scoring system, TEWL, and LDF. They are measured 3+0.(0,1+21.70, 45+12.70 at 5 min after removal of 99.9% DMSQ, and 0.83+0.41, 10.5+3.83, 36+4.0, to 120 min after removal. 3. Guinea pig skin responses to 97% xylene under occlusion for 5 nin were assessed by visual scoring system, TEWL and LDF. They are measured 3+0.00, 1. 5.82, 77+11.7 at 5 min after removal of 97% xylene, and 1.83+0.75, 5.5+3.21, 39.17+11.53 at l2 min after removal. 4. Human skin responses to 75% DMSO under occlusion for 1 min were assessed by visual scoring system, TEWL and LDF. They are measured 2,5+0.5, 63+25.8, 51+13.7 at 5 min after removal of 75% DMSO, and 0.17+0.41, 14.67+15.87, 21.17-8. 1 at 120 min after removal. 5. Human skin responses to 97% xylene under occlusion for 12 min were assessed by visual scoring system, TEWL and LDF. They are measured 2.7+0.52+4.22, 76+14.30 at 5 min after removal of 97% xylene, and 0+0, 2.5+0.55, 3.17+0.98, 120 emOVBI. Concbsion : Short contact vrith DMSO and xylene cause visib erythema and an increase in TEWL and cutaneous blood flow. The reaction patterns in hurr an and guinea pig skin models were similar. Background: As in vivo models such as animal and human tests have many potential problems the keratinocyte culture model has previously been used as an in vitro model for testing skin irritancy for common skin irritants. Objective : To determine the skin irritant potency of several solvents, we employed cultured human keratinocytes as an in vitro model. Methods : To evaluate the cytotoxicity of solvents, the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT) test, lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) release test, and tritiated thymidine incorporation test were used. Results : Dose dependent decrease of cell viability and DNA synthesis, and dose dependent increase in leakage of LDH liberation were observed in normal cultured human keratinocytes after exposure to several solvents. The cytotoxicity potency of several solvents measured by each method were slightly different. Conclusion : These observations suggest that the cultured human keratinocyte model would be useful in evaluating the cytotoxicity of solvents. (Kor J Dermatol 1996;34(1): 58~63)

We experienced a rare case of amyloidosis associated with tuberculosis. A 34-year-old man in was admitted because of multiple lymphadenopathy, intermittent fever, and generalized weakness. He showed massive proteinuria, metabolic acidosis, low creatinine clearance and hematmesis. The cervical lymph node biopsy revealed chronic granuloma with multinucleated giant cell and caseous necrosis consistent with tuberculous lymphadenopathy, and also showed diffuse deposition of homogenous amorphous eosinophilic material. The percutaneous needle biopsy of kidney showed massive infiltration of pale pinkish amorphous material in the glomerular mesangium. Gastric mucosal biopsy revealed infiltration of amorphous material in the lamina propria. Polarizing illumination after Congored staining on all the three tissue biopsy showed typical green birefringence. A computerized tomographic (CT) scan of the abdomen showed hepatosplenomegaly and both renal vein thrombosis. He was managed with peritoneal dialysis, anti-TBc medication, steroids and other supportive measures. Despite aggressive treatment, his condition deteriorated day by day. He was discharged with hopeless condition. This case indicated that we should not exclude a possibility of the secondary amyloidosis in case of tuberculosis and massive proteinuria. To our knowledge, we think that this case is the first case of amyloidosis associated with tuberculosis in Korea.
