Hai Dan Yuan,Hai Yan Quan,Mi Song Jung,Su Jung Kim,Bo Huang,Do Yeon Kim,Sung Hyun Chung 고려인삼학회 2011 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.35 No.3
In the present study, we investigate anti-diabetic effect of pectinase-processed ginseng radix (GINST) in high fat diet-fed ICR mice. The ICR mice were divided into three groups: regular diet group, high fat diet control group (HFD), and GINST-treated group. To induce hyperglycemia, mice were fed a high fat diet for 10 weeks, and mice were administered with 300 mg/kg of GINST once a day for 5 weeks. Oral glucose tolerance test revealed that GINST improved glucose tolerance after glucose challenge. Compared to the HFD control group, fasting blood glucose and insulin levels were decreased by 57.8% (p<0.05) and 30.9% (p<0.01) in GINST-treated group, respectively. With decreased plasma glucose and insulin levels, the insulin resistance index of the GINST-treated group was reduced by 68.1% (p<0.01) compared to the HFD control group. Pancreas of GINST-treated mice preserved a morphological integrity of islets and consequently having more insulin contents. In addition, GINST up-regulated the levels of phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and its target molecule, glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) protein expression in the skeletal muscle. Our results suggest that GINST ameliorates a hyperglycemia through activation of AMPK/GLUT4 signaling pathway, and has a therapeutic potential for type 2 diabetes.

Fatty acid synthase (FAS) is considered as a novel drug target for the development of anticancer and anti-obesity agents. Bioassay-guided fractionation of a n-hexane-soluble extract prepared from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Labiatae), using an in vitro enzyme assay, led to the isolation of five abietane diterpenoids: 15,16-dihydrotanshinone I (1), cryptotanshinone (2), tanshinone I (3), tanshinone IIA (4), and dansenspiroketallactone (5). Compounds 1-5 were tested for their in vitro FAS inhibitoryactivity and, except for compound 5 (IC(50) > 100 μM), compounds 1-4 inhibited the enzyme activity with IC(50) values ranging from 12.0 to 30.3 μM. Our findings may be partially related to the anticancer activity of abietane diterpenoids from the plant, suggesting a further study on the anticancer potential of tanshinone derivatives.

This study aims at presenting the development direction of Korean social and cultural teaching materials for Koreanology majors according to the necessity of the Korean language teaching materials and the needs of Korean language education in China for Koreanology majors. We had found that investigating the characteristics and needs of students must precede all others to enhance the effectiveness in all classes, and so we questioned Koreanology professors and majors in Chinese universities on that. According to the survey results, we decided to set the development direction of the materials as follows. In the aspects of form, first, due to the materials will be for the Koreanology major students, we are to write them in Korean language. Second, according to analyzing the needs of students, they require the lecture and discussion be together, and so we present the subject for discussion or meditation in the closing parts of the materials. Third, we will put special corner and internet web site in the material for them to be practical sources. On the other hand, in the aspects of contents, under the educational goal of training integrated men of ability well-grounded in Korean language, society and culture, we try to reflect the characteristics of Korean social and cultural aspects inclusively. Finally, this study will consider the proportion of tradition and the present day, simultaneously represent the difference between Chinese culture and Korean culture. This paper dealt with effect of dual component and micropartical retention system on papermaking. First-pass retention under dynamic drainage condition was studied in neutral and alkaline papermaking system. Cationic starches, amphoteric starches and amphoteric polyacrylamide were added prior to high shear force, then anionic microparticle (colloidal silica or bentonite clay) were added. The system is found to be very useful to improve filler retention. For mitigating unfavorable effect of interfering sub-stances [I] , anionic trash catcher (ATC)such as p-DADMAC was tested in this study.

In this paper, a series of amphoteric polyacrylamide (PAM) with different molecular weight and charge were synthesized and used as retention and dewatering aids. Better products had been selected and tested under varied conditions. Effects of molecular weight, cationic charge density, degree of hydrolysis<br/> and other factors of PAM on retention and dewatering of papermaking were also considered. Finally, synthesized quaternary and tertiary ammonium amphoteric polyacrylamide were practised in paper mill trial.

Due to ionic migration and adsorption, an electrical double layer with a thickness scaled by the Debye length is formed at the hydrogel-solution interface. For a thin temperature-pH dual sensitive hydrogel whose chickness is comparable to the Debye length, its mechanical behavior may be affected by the electrical double layer. In this paper, by incorporating electromagnetic field theory into thermodynamic theory, we develop a coupled field theory for a temperature-pH dual sensitive hydrogel, and we take into account the electrical double layer. The proposed model can be used to analyze the in uences of the size effect, ionic concentration, ambient temperature and solution pH value on the swelling of a thin layer of the temperature-pH sensitive hydrogel.

A novel monoclonal antibody (mAb), known as AC10364, was identified from an antibody library generated by immunization of mice with human carcinoma cells. The mAb recognized proteins in lysates from multiple carcinoma cell lines. Cell cytotoxicity assays showed that AC10364 significantly inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis in multiple carcinoma cell lines, including Bel/fu, KATO-III and A2780. Compared with mAb AC10364 or chemotherapeutic drugs alone, the combination of mAb AC10364 with chemotherapeutic drugs demonstrated enhanced growth inhibitory effects on carcinoma cells. These results suggest that mAb AC10364 is a promising candidate for cancer therapy.
