Localized hypertrichosis induced by prurigo treatment in children

Hypertrichosis is defined as excessive hair growth which is independent of any androgen effect. Acquired localized hypertrichosis can be induced by chronic irritation, inflammation, friction, and drugs. Three children under 10 years old came to our hospital with severe itching brownish papules. They were diagnosed as prurigo nodularis and treated with phototherapy and occlusive dressing technic using topical corticosteroid cream. And one of them received additional triamcinolone intralesional injection. While having treatments, localized hypertrichosis was observed on the prurigo lesions. Hypertrichosis was not progressed after discontinuation of topical corticosteroid cream. We have rarely seen local hypertrichosis in adult prurigo patients who were treated with same methods. Herein we report three children cases of localized hypertrichosis which occurred during prurigo nodularis treatment. The possible underlying pathogenic mechanisms of localized hypertrichosis in these patients are discussed.

Air quality of indoor space environment is affected by various pollutants like as particles and chemical stuffs. The indoor air pollution affects directly the human respiration organs to cause consequently unpleasant mental status. The CO₂ concentration level is one of the harmful components of air pollutants. Major factor to increase the CO₂ concentration level is the people's breath amount in indoor. The car exhaust gas diffused from the around road also has strong affect on CO₂ concentration. There are some other reasons to affect the CO₂ concentration change, such as, real-time change of the population movement, closeness to the indoor air flow inlet window and changes in road car traffic amount. A remote monitoring system to measure environmental indoor air pollution concerning on the CO₂ concentration was studied and installed realized set-up model. Zigbee network configuration was applied for this system and the CO₂ concentration data were collected through USN network. A software program was developed to assure systematic analysis and to display real-time data on web pages. For the experimental test various condition was set up, like as, window opening, stopping air condition operation and adjusting fan heater work, etc. The analysis result showed the relation of various environmental conditions to CO₂ concentration changes. The causes to increase CO₂ concentration were experimentally defined as windows closing, the stopping air condition system, fan heater operation. To keep the CO₂ concentration under the legally required ppm level in public access indoor space, the developed remote measurement svstem will be usefully applied.

<P>A series of rubber composites with ultra high cis polybutadiene (UBR), NUC1–3, SBC1–4, SUS1–4, was prepared, and their vulcanized properties were measured and analyzed. The ultra high cis polybutadiene was prepared with the monomeric neodymium catalyst, Nd(neodecanoate)<SUB>3</SUB>·(neodecanoic acid). NUC composites were composed of natural rubber, ultra high cis polybutadiene, and carbon black. In the composite of a low carbon black content (NUC1, 45 phr), a high abrasion-resistance and a significantly low rolling resistance (tan δ<SUB>60°C</SUB>, 0.04) were obtained. According to the AFM study of NUC composites, abrasion resistance was closely related with surface morphology. In the SUS composites prepared with SSBR (solution styrene–butadiene copolymer), UBR, and silica, as the content of ultra high cis polybutadiene increased, Δcure torque (M<SUB>H</SUB>–M<SUB>L</SUB>) increased with fast cure kinetics. SUS4 showed high elongation and tensile strength with excellent abrasion resistance. Rolling resistance was improved as the content of ultra high cis polybutadiene increased. The SBC composites were prepared with SBR (emulsion styrene–butadiene copolymer), ultra high cis polybutadiene (or high cis polybutadiene), and carbon black. It is remarked that abrasion resistance and Δtan δ (tan δ <SUB>60°C</SUB> − tan δ<SUB>0°C</SUB>) are increased with ultra high cis polybutadiene. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 최근 GPS가 탑재된 스마트폰을 활용하여 아동 범죄를 대비하는 위치기반서비스가 증가하고 있다. 하지만 스마트폰과 위치기반서비스는 지속적인 데이터 송수신을 요구하기 때문에 일반 휴대폰보다 많은 배터리를 소모한다. 또한 유지비용이 많이 들며 정밀도가 낮다는 문제점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 향후 GPS 단말기 개발을 위한 사전 연구로 나무숲과 건물 등으로 둘러싸인 도심지에서 기존 상용 GPS로 측정 실험을 수행하여 측점의 위치정확도를 평가하고, 나아가 직접적인 CPS 단말기 개발을 통한 성능개선의 가능성을 확인하였다. 실험한 결과, 다른 시스템과 함께 CPS를 사용하고 수신한 CPS 데이터를 보정 한다면, 장시간동안 실내외에서 끊임없는 위치 정보를 확인할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Lichen striatus (LS) is a self-limiting linear dermatosis occurs mainly in children. It presents as pink raised spots that join together to form one or more dull red slightly scaly linear bands. Nail involvement in LS is uncommon, and nail changes include fissuring, longitudinal ridging and splitting, leukonychia, fraying, onycholysis, and loss of the nail plate. A 10-year-old boy visited our clinic with nail dystrophy of the left ring finger for a month. He didn``t complain of any subjective symptom. The two-week application of diflucortolone ointment had not made any improvement. The radial one third of nail plate of left 4th finger showed onycholysis and longitudinal leukonychia and erythronychia. KOH direct smear failed to reveal fungal infection. One month later longitudinalgrooves occurred on the nail plate and slightly scaly dull red papules and plaque developed on the proximal nail fold and dorsal side of the distal and middle phalanges of the left 4th finger. The skin lesions were arranged linearly and connected to the dystrophic nail plate. We performed a punch biopsy at the skin lesion. Histopathologic findings showed hyperkeratosis, exocytosis, spongiosis, papillomatosis, and band-like diffuse inflammatory cells infiltration and focal perieccrine infiltration. The nail dystrophy may precede the onset of the rash like our patient in LS. Therefore, LS should be considered in an isolated asymmetrical nail dystrophy in a child.
A case of recurrent cutaneous sparganosis in a middle-aged woman

A sparganosis is the plerocerocoid infection that is involved in the Spirometra species, such as Spriometra erinacei, S. mansoni, S. mansonoides. The larva migrates widely and usually lodge in soft tissues like subcutaneous tissue or muscle and seldom invade to dermis. The lesion is characterized by a slow-growing, palpable, migratory nodule. It is clinically presented as a pruritic, serpiginous, 20 days to 14 months after ingestion of infective larvae. A 60-year-old woman visited our hospital with a complaint of a palpable mass on the left buttock. She habitually drank natural spring water in the mountain for 5 years and had a history of eating cooked frog several times in childhood. 7 years ago, she diagnosed as sparganosis but incomplete removal of parasite on the right calf in our hospital. After 7 years, she had a movable subcutaneous nodule on the left buttock. So we performed ultrasonography and excisional biopsy. Once again, we surgically confirmed recurrent sparganosis. Once human become infected, the larvae can invade the muscle, intestine, eye, brain, and/or spinal cord. On admission, for further evaluation, we performed contrast brain MRI and MRA, but there was no evidence that the sparganum had invaded other organs such as brain, eyes in this patient. A previous report hypothesized that recurrent sparganosis depends on potential incomplete removal. So, herein we report a case of recurrent cutaneous sparganosis.

Treating chronic wound is challenging, especially in unhealthy patients. Recently, the use of allogenic keratinocyte grafting has been shown to improve wound healing. We report seven cases with recalcitrant wounds which were treated successfully by using a biological dressing material derived from cultured human keratinocytes. The skin wounds in these cases had been resistant to the various treatments including occlusive dressing, polydeoxyribonucleotide injection, and platelet-rich plasma therapy. The biological dressing material derived from cultured human keratinocytes produced noticeable improvements in the recalcitrant wounds without any complications. We think that the biological dressing played an important role in wound healing. Therefore we suggest a biological dressing material derived from cultured human keratinocytes can be considered as a treatment option for ulcerative wounds.
A Study on NDIR-based CO2 Sensor to apply Remote Air Quality Monitoring System

Recently, various CO2 sensors reported in the literature may be classified in two major categories depending on measuring principle of sensors. Fist, the chemical CO2 gas sensors have the principal advantage of a very low energy consumption and small size. On the negative side, It is difficult to apply to a variety of practical fields because they have a short lifetime and as well as low durability. Second, NDIR-based CO2 sensor is commonly used in monitoring indoor air quality due to relatively high accuracy compared with that of a chemical CO2 gas sensor. In this paper, therefore, we evaluate NDIR-based CO2 sensors to verify applicable potentialities of them in a remote air quality monitoring system. In addition, the principle and structure of NDIR CO2 sensor is discussed, and then we analyze the CO2 concentration has been measured in the real platform of subway station for a month. Finally this paper proposes that the accuracy of the measuring values from NDIR CO2 sensor is enough for indoor air quality monitoring applications.
