Motion during human walking can be represented as a sequence of poses. Precise data acquisition for motion analysis usually consumes time and cost. For most of the researches about gait, the number of training data is usually smaller than the dimensionality of features. Therefore, dimensionality reduction methods are applied to extract important features by eliminating redundancy. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a method that preserves maximum data variation with reduced components by a linear transformation. Though there had been various nonlinear methods to address the limitations of PCA, some works showed that PCA could have better performance than those methods depending on the distribution of data. This study compares PCA and two nonlinear methods, t-SNE, and multilayer autoencoders on gait motion. Dataset used in this study contains 1952 trials of walking motion capture. Nonlinear methods were implemented as encoder and decoder pair, which are fully connected neural networks. The methods were compared in terms of reconstruction error of original data and preservation of pairwise Euclidean distance in reduced dimension. The results suggest a proper method how to reduce the dimensionality of walking motion, with the pros and cons of each of them.

<P>We investigate multiple quantum well [MQW] structures with charge control layers [CCLs] to produce highly efficient blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes [PHOLEDs]. Four types of devices from one to four quantum wells are fabricated following the number of CCLs which are mixed p- and n-type materials, maintaining the thickness of the emitting layer [EML]. Remarkably, such PHOLED with an optimized triplet MQW structure achieves maximum luminous and external quantum efficiency values of 19.95 cd/A and 10.05%, respectively. We attribute this improvement to the efficient triplet exciton confinement effect and the suppression of triplet-triplet annihilation which occurs within each EML. It also shows a reduction in the turn-on voltage from 3.5 V (reference device) to 2.5 V by the bipolar property of the CCLs.</P>

The talocalcaneal coalition reduces the range of motion in the subtalar joint. Resection surgery is required to improve the joints range of motion and restore physiological gait. Measuring joint kinematics is important to understand the effectiveness of surgery, but past studies had difficulties in obtaining accurate joint kinematics. In this study, the joint kinematics of hindfoot joint of talocalcaneal coalition patients were measured before and after resection using a biplane fluoroscopy imaging system. The range of motion of the hindfoot joint was statistically analyzed to find out whether surgery affects the range of motion of the joint. The range of motion of the subtalar joint had significantly increased after the resection, and the eversion/inversion motion of the tibiocalcaneal motion had significantly increased. Lack of eversion/inversion motions may increase instability in gait, and increasing the range of eversion/inversion motions in tibiocalcaneal motion affects shock absorption, contributing to increasing overall stability.

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is rarely reported in patients who have normal immune function. Recently, IPA risk was reported in nonimmunocompromised hosts, such as patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and critically ill patients in intensive care units. Moreover, influenza infection is also believed to be associated with IPA among immunocompetent patients. However, most reports on IPA with influenza A infection, including pandemic influenza H1N1, and IPA associated with influenza B infection were scarcely reported. Here, we report probable IPA with a fatal clinical course in an immunocompetent patient with influenza B infection. We demonstrate IPA as a possible complication in immunocompetent patients with influenza B infection. Early clinical suspicion of IPA and timely antifungal therapy are required for better outcomes in such cases.
