        IL-13 R110Q, a Naturally Occurring IL-13 Polymorphism, Confers Enhanced Functional Activity in Cultured Human Bronchial Smooth Muscle Cells

        Purpose: Interleukin (IL)-13, a Th2-type cytokine, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of asthma through its direct effects on airway smoothmuscles. A naturally occurring IL-13 polymorphism, R110Q, is strongly associated with increased total serum IgE levels and asthma. In the presentstudy, we aimed to determine whether the IL-13 R110Q variant would display different biochemical properties or altered functions in comparisonwith wild-type (WT) IL-13 in cultured human bronchial smooth muscle cells (hBSMCs). Methods: Culture supernatants and cell proteins were collectedfrom cultured hBSMCs that were treated with 50 ng/mL IL-13 or IL-13 R110Q for 24 h. Eotaxin released into hBSMC culture medium was determinedby ELISA. The expression levels of the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) α-chain, smooth muscle-specific actin alpha chain (α-SMA), smoothmuscle myosin heavy chain (SmMHC), and calreticulin in the cells were measured on Western blots. Results: Compared with WT IL-13, treatmentwith the IL-13 R110Q variant resulted in a significant increase in eotaxin release as well as significant, although modest, increases in the expressionlevels of α-SMA, SmMHC, calreticulin, and FcεRI α-chain. Conclusions: The results of the present study suggenst that the IL-13 R110Q variantmay enhance enhanced functional activities in hBSMCs.

        여성주의 시각으로부터 본 연변부련회 활동 및 한계 : 연변주부련회 자료를 중심으로

        본 글에서는 1952~1994년까지의 연변주부련회 당안자료를 중심으로 연변주부련회의 활동양상에 대해 고찰했으며, 고찰을 통해 여성사업이 지니는 한계에 대해 살펴보았다. 연변주부련회는 생산노동, 문맹퇴치, 간부배양, 권익보장, 탁아복리 등을 여성사업의 중점으로 삼고 활동을 전개하였으며 여성들로 하여금 사회진출의 첫걸음을 내디디도록 했다. 하지만 국가가 주도하는 젠더 동질화 속에서 여성들은 가사노동과 사회노동 의무를 동시에 짊어지게 되었으며 과잉노동으로 신체를 혹사시켰고 이중속박 속에서 심리적 부담이 가중되었다. 여성해방은 마르크스 여성해방에 대한 왜곡된 인식, 매체 선전, 여성들의 심리적 구조 등에 의해 복잡한 양상으로 흘러갔다. 결론적으로 매 시대마다 "여성해방"은 국가행위와 분리시켜 논할 수 없으며 국가 장치가 다양한 제도들과 상호작용하는 과정에서 "여성해방"이라는 구성물이 어떻게 배치되는지를 잘 파악해야 함과 동시에 "여성해방"이라는 구성물을 해체하여 분석해야 한다고 본다. 그리고 무엇보다도 그 과정에서 여성들은 국가의 여성해방정책에 대응함과 동시에 수많은 모순들을 자체의 의지로서 해결해나가면서 기존의 질서에서 벗어나 새로운 정체성을 형성해나가는 주체들로서, 향후 조선족 여성 연구에 있어 그러한 밝혀내는 작업이 중요하다고 본다. Based on the party case data of Yanbian vice Federation from 1949 to 1994, this paper investigates the limitations of women"s cause through the investigation of the activities of Yanbian vice Federation. The Deputy Federation of Yanbian Prefecture focuses its activities on productive labor, literacy, cadre training, rights and interests protection and childcare welfare, so as to make women take the first step into society. However, in the state led gender homogenization, women undertake the obligations of housework and social work at the same time. Excessive work leads to physical death and psychological burden in the double constraints. Women"s liberation has become a complex situation due to the distorted understanding of Marx"s women"s liberation, media publicity and women"s psychological structure. In every era, "women"s Liberation" can not be discussed separately from state behavior. The state device "women"s Liberation" in the process of interaction with various systems We should master the configuration of this component, grasp the newly generated sense of identity of women"s behavior, and dissolve the component of "women"s Liberation" in the place of complex relations. Moreover, in this process, while coping with the National Women"s Liberation policy, women have solved many contradictions with their own will. As the main body to get rid of the existing order and form a new sense of identity, it is very important to find out these problems in the future.

        Preparation and Thermal Performance of Fullerene-Based Lead Salt

        $C_{60}$ is widely investigated because of its unique structure. But its applications in solid propellant seem to be relatively neglected. $C_{60}$ has more outstanding features than carbon black which is widely used as a catalyst ingredient of solid propellant. To combine the advantages of fullerene and lead salts, another good composite in propellant catalysts, we synthesized a kind of fullerene phenylalanine lead salt (FPL) and explored its thermal performances by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). The results show it undergoes four exothermic processes started from 408 K. Combined TGA and X-ray diffractometer (XRD), the decomposition mechanism of FPL was derived by TG-IR and comparing IR spectra of FPL and its residues after burned to $327^{\circ}C$, $376^{\circ}C$ and $424^{\circ}C$, respectively. Effect of FPL on the decomposition characteristic of hexogen (RDX), a type of explosive in propellant, has been investigated using DTA at different heating rate, which shows the decomposition temperatures of the explosive are all reduced by more than 20 K. The corresponding activation energy ($E_a$) is decreased by $30kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$. So FPL has potential application as a combustion catalyst in solid propellant.

        Promoting effect of the Maillard reaction products produced during the stir-frying process of Hordei Fructus Germinatus on the intestinal absorption of active ingredients in Hordei Fructus Germinatus

        This study was designed to evaluate theabsorption promoting capacity of Maillard Reaction Products(MRPs) produced during the stir-frying process ofHordei Fructus Germinatus on catechin, ferulic acid,quercetin and kaempferol by the ex vivo rat everted gut sacmodel, in situ single-pass intestinal perfusion model andthe whole animal model. Moreover, verapamil, EDTA andmannitol were used for determining the transport mechanismof catechin, ferulic acid, quercetin and kaempferol. The tight junction (TJ) proteins including zonula occudens-1(ZO-1) and claudin-1 were chosen to investigate thepromoting mechanism of MRPs by quantitative real-timePCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot analyses. The resultsshowed that the MRPs produced during the stir-fryingprocess of Hordei Fructus Germinatus could improve theintestinal absorption of catechin, ferulic acid, quercetin andkaempferol. And the absorption-promoting effect of MRPswas related to chelating effect and the reduced expressionof claudin-1 and ZO-1. Our results suggested that MRPscould be promising oral absorption promoters, which mightbe another processing mechanism of Hordei FructusGerminatus.

      • Classifying Endemic Fagaceae Species in Taiwan using Leaf Images

        Fagaceae is one of the plant family which dominate the broad-leaved forests in Taiwan and have considerable value in economy and ecology. Traditionally, plant species identification based on leaf morphologies and is conducted using naked-eye observation. This study is proposed to distinguish the Fagaceae species using image processing and machine learning. In this study, leaf images of 10 Fagaceae species were collected. A serial of traits relevant to leaf morphologies, such as morphological, color, shape, and venation traits, were quantified from the leaf images. A support vector machine classifier was then developed to identify the species using the quantified traits. The proposed approach reached an identification accuracy of 95.8%.
