Vol.- No.60

“Fictions” by Jorge Luis Borges is a work that shows the meaning of reading in depth in that it features repeated motifs of readers and reading experiences. With this in mind, this paper sought to consider the ultimate meaning of reading behavior as observed in Borges’ work. The narrators and key figures in the stories are not naive readers, but creative readers who are assumed in the criticism of the reader's reaction. The reader actively intervenes in interpretation, not accepting the contents of the book passively. “Fictions” features meta-fiction that discovers new meanings or shows the writing process of a work by transforming the existing meaning through the reader’s reading behavior. There is no fixed or invariant meaning in this world and the story is something that needs to be newly created through transformation or modulation. The author’s creativity is similar to the editor’s ability in that the creative process of the work also shows how to arrange and transform. This also has important implications for reading education. “Fictions” highlights the fact that books rely on earlier works, showing the inherent intertextuality of works. Because of this, reading and writing are in an infinite cycle, and the boundaries between readers and authors, literary works and criticism are neutralized. “Fictions” shows that the story is a product of transformation and modulation and creation in this process by questioning or rewriting the ideas of privileged authors or recognized knowledge. The reader is a person who interprets through his work, but he is already a potential author.

A Case Report of a Patient with Miller Fisher Syndrome Treated with Traditional Korean Medicine

Kim, Hyo Bin,Jeong, Jeong Kyo,Kim, Myung Kwan,Kim, Jae Ik,Lee, Ye Ji,Jeon, Ju Hyun,Kim, Eunseok,Kim, Jung Ho,Kim, Young Il Korean AcupunctureMoxibustion Medicine Society 2018 Korean Journal of Acupuncture Vol.35 No.3

The aim of this report is to describe improved symptom changes in eye movement disorders and dizziness of a patient with Miller Fisher syndrome after receiving combined Korean medicine treatment (CKMT). A 24-year-old male was diagnosed with MFS accompanied by eye movement disorder, diplopia, and dizziness. For 6 weeks, the patient received acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, and physical therapy treatment. Visual analogue scale were checked and other outcomes (the range of eye movement, the distance that diplopia appears, diplopia questionnaire) were measured. Following CKMT, the movement of both eyes improved in both the horizontal and vertical direction. Also for diplopia and dizziness, there was a decrease in the visual analogue scale and the distance that diplopia appeared. The present case report suggests that CKMT may have a role in treating eye movement disorders and dizziness in patient diagnosed with MFS.

Effects of Molding Pressure and Sintering Temperature on Properties of Foamed Glass without Blowing Agent

        Kim, EunSeok,Kim, Kwangbae,Lee, Hyeryeong,Kim, Ikgyu,Song, Ohsung The Korean Ceramic Society 2019 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.56 No.2

A process of fabricating the foamed glass that has closed pores with 8 ~ 580 ㎛ sizes without a blowing agent by sintering 10 ㎛ boron-free glass powder composed of CaO, MgO, SO3, Al2O3-83 wt% SiO2 at a molding pressure of 0 ~ 120 MPa and a sintering temperature of 750 ~ 1000℃ was investigated. To analyze the glass transition temperature of glass powder, thermogravimetric analysis-differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA) method were used. The microstructure and pore size of foamed glass were examined using the optical microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). For the thermal diffusivity and color of the fabricated samples, a heat flow meter and ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-VIS-NIR)-colormetry were used, respectively. In the TGA-DTA result, the glass transition temperature of glass powder was confirmed to be 626℃. In the microstructure result, closed pores of 7 ~ 20 ㎛ were formed at 750 ~ 900℃, and they were not affected by the molding pressure and sintering temperature. However, at 1,000℃, when there was 0 MPa molding pressure, closed pores of 580 ㎛ were confirmed, and the pore size decreased as the molding pressure increased. Moreover, at a molding pressure of 30 MPa or higher, closed pores of approximately 400 ㎛ were formed. The porosity showed an increasing trend of smaller molding pressure and larger sintering temperature, and it was controllable in the range of 5.69 ~ 68.45%. In the thermal diffusivity result, there was no change according to the molding pressure, and, by increasing the sintering temperature, up to 0.115 W/m·K could be obtained. The Lab color index (CIE-Lab) results all showed a similar translucent white color regardless of molding pressure and sintering temperature. Therefore, based on the foamed glass without boron and blowing agent, it was confirmed that white foamed glass, which has closed pores of 8 ~ 580 ㎛ and a thermal diffusivity characteristic of 0.115 W/m·K, can be fabricated by changing the molding pressure and sintering temperature.
