Binding Energy of Oxigen and Methane Adsorbed on Bundles of Open-Ended Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

The adsorption of oxygen and methane on the bundles of open-ended single wall carbon nanotube(SWNT) was studied using the volumetric adsorption qst was obtained from the adsorption isotherm measurements performed at different temperatures. The trend in the values of the methane isosteric heat of adsorption showed three regions, representative of the adsorption on the different types of adsorption sites. In case of oxygen, on the other hand, such distinguishable regions were not appeared in the N-qst graph. From the results of qst the binding energies of oxygen and methane adsorbed on open-ended SWITs were estimated.

The object of this study is to investigate the thermal characteristics of heating system with floor radiation for residential building. As a first step, the thermal resistance of floor constructed with mortar and concrete has been studied while hot water is supplied through pipe under the floor surface. A heat transfer model of floor heating system which has natural convection and radiation from floor surface to the heating space has been developed to predict the heat transfer and the temperature of floor surface. Also, expriments have been performed and the results have been compared with those of heat transfer model. This study does not include all the heat transfer characteristics associated with typical heating system with radiant floor in detail. However, heat transfer modeling developed in this study can be a first step in design of comfortable floor temperature. Therefore, the results of this study can provide important informations to construct and optimize such a system.

A histopathogical study was done on 45 cases of malignant bone tumor, collected at the department of patholgy, Chungnam National University School of Medicine, from January 1976 to June 1985. The results were as follows: 1. Among 45 cases of malignant bone tumor, the most frequent type was metastatic carcinoma (16 cases; 35.6%), followed by osteogenic sarcoma(11 cases; 24.4%) chondrosarcoma (6 cases; 1.3%), Ewing's sarcoma(3 cases; 67%), reticulum cell sarcoma (2 cases; 4.4%), malignant giant cell tumor(2 cases; 4.4%), adamantinoma(1 case), and malignant mesenchymoma(1 case). 2. Age distribution revealed 11 cases(24.4%) in second decade, 9 cases(20%) in third and fifth decades, respectively and 6 cases(13.3%) in seventh decade. 3. The sex distribution showed slightly male predominance(1.25:1). 4. The most frequently involved bone was femur(14 cases; 31%), followed by tibia (9 cases; 20%), and vertebral bone(6 cases; 13.3%).
고속 전철 Catenary/Pantograph계의 동특성 해석

The vibrations in Catenary/Pantograph system should be avoided to assure the power collection in High-Speed train. Contacts between pantograph and trolley wire depend on various design parameters. To select good design parameters, analytical and numerical simulation were performed for a simplified model. The dynamic characteristics of tensioned wire subject to moving force was calculated using Laplace transform. And, a simulation program was developed to calculate the displacement of trolley wire using Euler method. The numerical results showed good agreements between two methods.

This paper addresses a MR(Magneto-Resistive) sensor based vehicle speed detector which has been developed as an alternative to the conventional loop detector most available on the road. Consisting of two MR sensors and voltage amplifiers, microprocessor, RF module for wireless data transferring, the proposed detector can offer essential traffic data such as vehicle volume and speed. At first, basic speed detecting performance of the detector was verified with a simple car moving simulator in laboratory, and then real world field test was performed to show the practical usefulness as an alternative to the loop detector

For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.

The patient with unilateral or bilateral inverted nipple has both functional and cosmetic impairments. The structural and histopathologic features of inverted nipple are that inverted nipple has less fibromuscular tissue than normal nipple and has short lactiferous duct and dense fibrous tissue. For these reasons, surgical correction of inverted nipple requires release of the short lactiferous ducts and providing the bulkiness under the nipple. We conbined the concept of both adding the bulkiness under the nipple and creating a tight neck at its base without sacrificing the duct system. We rotated the bilateral diamond shaped deepithelized dermal flaps around the nipple areolar complex for providing the nipple bulkiness without division of lactiferous duct and reinforced it with the purse-string suture around the dermal flap for providing the stability. This two rotational dermal flap method was applied 12 inverted nipple in 6 patients and followed up for 2 months to 24 months. We have got the satisfatory results in cosmetic and functional aspect without any complication such as sensory change, relapse, and nipple necrosis.
