Lettuce is an economically important leafy vegetable that accumulates a milk-like sap called latex in the laticifer. Previously, we conducted a large-scale lettuce latex proteomic analysis. However, the identified proteins were obtained only from lettuce ESTs and proteins deposited in NCBI databases. To extend the number of known latex proteins, we carried out an analysis identifying 302 additional proteins that were matched to the NCBI non-redundant protein database. Interestingly, the newly identified proteins were not recovered from lettuce EST and protein databases, indicating the usefulness of this hetero system in MudPIT analysis. Gene ontology studies revealed that the newly identified latex proteins are involved in many processes, including many metabolic pathways, binding functions, stress responses, developmental processes, protein metabolism, transport and signal transduction. Application of the non-redundant plant protein database led to the identification of an increased number of latex proteins. These newly identified latex proteins provide a rich source of information for laticifer research.

To elucidate genetic diversity of common reed in Korea, we collected a total of 674 common reed plants from 27 regions in South Korea. Hierarchical clustering using 7 morphological traits divided the 27 common reed populations into 7 groups. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) results identified three distinct groups of common reed. Common reed accessions in group I mostly inhabit coastal areas. Group II includes reeds mostly collected from inland areas. Group III consists of common reed accessions collected from inland and coastal areas, suggesting that this group might contain hybrids. In summary, we suggest that parapatric speciation might be an important factor in the genetic diversity of common reed and geographical speciation of common reed that might be also affected by environmental gradients.

This study reports on the effectiveness of Korean traditional medicine treatment on a patient with right hip pain caused by obturator nerve entrapment due to ganglion cyst. The patient had been misdiagnosed for a stenosis at the other hospital, but he got a different diagnosis this time with the examination. The patient was treated with Korean traditonal medicine, which includes pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, manual treatment (Chuna), and herbal medicine. Numerical rating scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Euroqol five dimension (EQ-5D) index were used as a objective tool for evaluating the patient's symptoms. After treatment, NRS and ODI were decreased, while EQ-5D index was increased. This study suggests that a combined Korean traditional medicine may be effective in reducing symptoms related to obturator nerve entrapment. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2020;30(3):163-169)

Purpose: This study aimed to identify affecting factors depression in the elderly with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using elderly welfare centers. Methods: A predictive correlational design was used. Data were collected by questionnaires from elderly using elderly welfare centers. Participants were 223 with MCI using the elderly welfare center, and data were collected during from 2 September to 30 November, 2017. Measures were Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-DS), activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), body mass index (BMI), social relationships, geriatric depression scale (GDS), subjective memory complaints (SMC), and depression. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, x2-test, t-test and logistic regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: Those variables explained 30.5% of variance of depression. Multivariate analysis revealed that GDS (low), BMI (high), sex (women), and education (none) were more probability of MCI elderly with major depression. Conclusion: To maintain and promote the cognitive function of elderly people, it is necessary to consider these cognitive impairment risk factors and develop nursing intervention programs to prevent cognitive deterioration.
An Empirical Study of IT-based Faultlines on Group Performance in Chinese IT Corporations

1998년 Lau와 Murnighan의 faultline 이론이후 많은 연구가 진행되었으며 이는 기존의 인구통계학 연구가 밝혀낸 것 외에 많은 유용한 해석을 가능하게 하였다. 그러나 종전의 연구들은 직장환경이 미치는 영향에 대해 충분히 검토하지 못하였으며 IT기업에 있어 faultline의 영향은 탐구되지 못하였다. 본 논문에서는 이전의 faultline 이론을 바탕으로 IT-based faultlines을 제시하였고 그 영향력를 연구하였다. 본 연구는 IT-based faultlines은 task conflict와 process conflict에 부정적인 영향을 미치며, 이 두 종류의 Conflict는 IT-based faultlines의 영향을 그룹 퍼포먼스에 전달하는 것을 보여주었다. 또한 조절변수 commitment는 IT-based faultlines과 그룹 퍼포먼스사이에 조절작용이 없는 것으로 나타난 반면 open communication는 강력한 조절작용을 나타냈다. 이 연구의 결과는 faultline은 그룹워크에서 중요한 요소임을 나타냄과 동시에, conflict 및 그룹 퍼포먼스와도 필은 연관성이 있음을 보여주었다. Faultline theery, introduced by Lau and Murnighan in 1998, adds valuable explanations in addition to what previous demographic studies have explored. However, previous research has not been able to fully integrate the characteristics embedded in the workplace environments, and the influence of faultlines in IT industries has yet to be explored. In this study, IT related influence is given considerable weight into traditional faultline theory and the impact of IT-based faultlines is revealed. Our study indicates that IT-based faultlines have a negative impact on task conflict and process conflict, and these two effectively also effectively mediate the influence of IT-based faultlines to group performance. Two potential moderators are studied and the Tesults indicate that commitment has no moderating effect between IT-based faultlines and group performance while open communication has strong moderating effect. Our empirical study reconfirmed that faultlines are important indicators in group work and also that faultlines are intimately related to various conflicts and group outcomes. We hope our research findings will be beneficial to organizations concerned with effective and efficient group work.
Comprehensive profiling of DNA methylation in Korean patients with colorectal cancer

Alterations in DNA methylation play an important pathophysiological role in the development and progression of colorectal cancer. We comprehensively profiled DNA methylation alterations in 165 Korean patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), and conducted an in-depth investigation of cancer-specific methylation patterns. Our analysis of the tumor samples revealed a significant presence of hypomethylated probes, primarily within the gene body regions; few hypermethylated sites were observed, which were mostly enriched in promoter-like and CpG island regions. The CpG Island Methylator Phenotype- High (CIMP-H) exhibited notable enrichment of microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H). Additionally, our findings indicated a significant correlation between methylation of the MLH1 gene and MSI-H status. Furthermore, we found that the CIMP-H had a higher tendency to affect the right-side of the colon tissues and was slightly more prevalent among older patients. Through our methylome profile analysis, we successfully verified the methylation patterns and clinical characteristics of Korean patients with CRC. This valuable dataset lays a strong foundation for exploring novel molecular insights and potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of CRC.
