        The transient left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome, also known as takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a recently described novel cardiac syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by transient asynergy of the ventricular apex or mid-ventricle in the absence of obstructive epicardial coronay artery disease. This report concerns two types of morphologic difference about left ventricular apex and mid-ventricle. In this case, we report two types of stress-induced cardiomyopathy with review of literatures.

      • Clopidogrel에 의해 발생된 전신 염증 반응 증후군 1례

        Clopidogrel bisulfate, a widely used inhibitor of platelet aggregation, is considered at least as safe as aspirin. We describe a 61 year old male patient who developed a systemic inflammatory response syndrome consisting of high fever, rash, chills, impaired liver function, and mild leukopenia after receiving clopidogrel after coronary angiography and stent implantation. The reaction resolved promptly after withdrawal of the drug, thus making the diagnosis of a clopidogrel induced reaction highly probable.

      • 유도 고교선수와 대학선수간 스트레스 요인에 관한 비교 분석

        The research selected Judo players (480) belonged to high schools, universities and enterprises at random and asked them what is the most severe stressful factor to them, what is the best solution on it, and what is the interaction between the cause of stress and method of settlement to examine the above factors closely. For this purpose, this study researched them through a survey and the results are as follows. 1. The level of stress in the high school athletes (96.84±23.57) was lower than in the university athletes (106.99±18.86) (t=4.577, p<.001). 2. The factor of inner stress in the high school athletes(57.05±14.45) was lower than in the university athletes (t=4.638, p<.001). And the factor before competition, the factor of competition result, the factor on competition, the factor on drill were lower in the high school athletes than in the university athletes. 3. The factor of outer stress was lower in the high school athletes (39.79±10.01) than in the university athletes (43.62±8.16). The factor of face to face relationship the factor of leisure, social factor, and the outer stress were lower in the high school athletes than in the university athletes. 4. The physical factor, reward factor, the factor of cause examination, discussion factor were lower in the high school athletes than in the university athletes. But forgetful factor, the factor of stress settlement didn't show slight difference between the high school athletes and the university athletes. This study suggests a program that can overcome the respective stress factor. Also the education of coping with stress is necessary to the high school athletes that didn't recognize the stress and were lack of stress knowledge. It is indispensable to being the greatest in improving of competition and achieving of training.

        전국 관청의 금연프로그램 실시 현황과 문제점

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the conditions and problems of anti-smoking education programs in government offices for civil servants. A mail-in survey was carried out for the chief of the general affairs of 248 government offices. 1. There were 154 responses to the surveys. Only 34 govermental offices have carried out anti-smoking education programs for civil servants. 2. Only one office has a department to supervise an anti-smoking program. 17 offices have 1 worker and thirteen offices have no manpower to supervise anti-smoking program. 3. Only eight offices have budgeted for anti-smoking programs. The average budget was 3,750,000Won. Expected budget for smoking cessation program was 7,500,000 Won. 4. 25 offices have an anti-smoking lecture program for civil servants. Only five offices have an anti-smoking counseling services for smokers. 5. Only seven surveys responded that civil servants had a positive response to anti-smoking programs. 6. The most important problem of anti-smoking programs in governmental offices was the lack of concern of civil servants. Governmental offices have to provide the greatest administrative services and services concerning the quality of life for citizens. Anti-smoking education programs in governmental offices for civil servants was the beginning of an activity of the services concerning the quality of life for citizens. Governmental offices have to actively implement anti-smoking programs for civil servants.

        Brugada syndrome is characterized by right bundle branch block morphology and ST segment elevation in the right precordial leads and a propensity to develop ventricular arrhythmias. Mutations in a cardiac sodium channel gene have been linked to this syndrome, and the ionic mechanisms responsible for the electrocardiographic phenotype are temperature-dependent. This case report describes a patient in whom a typical Brugada ECG pattern developed during fever and returned normal ECG after fever was subsided.

      • 藥鍼用蜂毒液이 黑色腫細胞에 미치는 抗癌效果에 對한 分子生物學的 硏究

        To study anti-cancer effect and molecular biological mechanism of bee venom for aqua-acupuncture, the effects of bee venom on cell viability, apoptosis, and cell cycle were analyzed using MTT assay, tryphan blue assay, [3H]thymidnine release assay, flow cytometric analysis, activity of caspase-3 protease activity assay, and immunocytometric analysis of PCNA. To explore whether anti-cancer effects of bee venom are associated with the transcriptional control of gene expression, quantitative RT-PCR analysis of apoptosis- and cell cycle-related genes was performed. The obtained results are summarized as follows: 1.The MTT assay demonstrated that cell viability was decreased by bee venom in a dose-dependant manner. 2.Significant induction of apoptosis was identified using tryphan blue assay. [³H]thymidine release assay, and flow cytometric analysis of sub G₁fraction. 3.In analysis of caspase-3 protease activity, the activity had increased significantly, in a dose-dependant manner. 4.Quantitative RT-PCR analysis of the apoptosis-related genes showed that Bcl-2 and Bcl-X□ were down-regulated whereas Bax was up-regulated by bee venom treatment. 5.In flow cytometric analysis of cell cycle and immunocytometric analysis of PCNA expression, cell numbers of G₁phase was increased by a dose-dependant manner. 6.In quantitative RT-PCR analysis of the cell cycle-related genes, p21, p27, and p57 were increased, while Cyclin D1, CDK4, c-Myc, c-Fos, and Histone H3 were decreased. In contrast, there were no remarkable changes in expression levels of CDC2 and c-Jun.

      • 급성 호흡곤란으로 내원한 성대기능이상 1례

        Vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) is a respiratory disorder characterized by the abnormal adduction of the vocal cords upon inspiration, expiration, or both, leading to a diverse array of acute obstructive airway signs and symptoms (wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and cough). VCD frequently mimics or confounds asthma. Misdiagnosis as asthma has led to inappropriate treatment, most notably with high-dose corticosteroids. Mistaken for anaphylaxis or angioedema, VCD has led to intubation and tracheostomy. VCD should be suspected in patients who are treated aggressively for asthma but continue to experience dyspnea. The diagnosis of VCD is made from direct visualization of the vocal cords during an attack. Inspiratory, anterior vocal cord closure with a posterior glottic chink is seen. On pulmonary function testing, a pattern of "saw-toothing", or fluttering of the inspiratory limb, representing fluctuations in the abnormal cord motion is seen in VCD patient. Treatment includes discussion of the diagnosis with the patients, discontinuing unnecessary medications, using of a helium-oxygen mixture in acute attack. Speech therapy and psychotherapy are the mainstays of long-term treatment. Here in we report a case of VCD in company with asthma.

        Physical properties and geoacoustic provinces of surficial sediments in the southwestern part of the Ulleung Basin in the East Sea

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A total of 157 piston and box core samples were collected and analyzed to characterize physical properties and geoacoustic provinces of surficial sediments in the southwestern part of the Ulleung Basin in the East Sea. The results and distribution patterns of surficial sediment texture, physical and acoustic properties reflect well the sedimentary environment like distribution and composition of sediment in the study area. The inner shelf and basin slope in this study are dominated by fine-grained sediments and show high porosity and water content, with low bulk density and velocity as well. The trough of the Korea Strait and outer shelf, which is composed of coarse-grained sediments, shows low porosity and water content and high bulk density and velocity. Based on <I>in-situ</I> velocity and sediment properties, the study area is divided into five provinces: (1) Province IA is hemi-pelagic mud partially mixed with intermittent sandy sediments which are derived from the outer shelf due to slide/slump or mass flows (<I>in-situ</I> velocity: 1445 m/s, mean grain size: 8.4Φ, porosity: 84%, and bulk density: 1.24 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>), (2) Province IB is covered with muddy sediments that were deposited during the Holocene (<I>in-situ</I> velocity: 1445 m/s, mean grain size: 7.9Φ, porosity: 78%, and bulk density: 1.35 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>), (3) Province II is marked by mixed recent and relict sediments (<I>in-situ</I> velocity: 1477 m/s, mean grain size: 6.1Φ, porosity: 68%, and bulk density: 1.53 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>), (4) Province III is dominated by coarse-grained relict sediments formed during the Pleistocene (<I>in-situ</I> velocity: 1564 m/s, mean grain size: 3.8Φ, porosity: 54%, and bulk density: 1.77 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>), and (5) Province IV consists of coarser sediments than Province III (<I>in-situ</I> velocity: 1671 m/s, mean grain size: 3.0Φ, porosity: 46%, and bulk density: 1.91 g/cm<SUP>3</SUP>). The compressional wave velocity, mean grain size, and bulk density increase from Province IA to Province IV, whereas the porosity and water content decrease from Province IA to Province IV. Variability of the physical and acoustic properties tends to follow the general trend of the mean grain size. The classification of each province using the <I>in-situ</I> velocity corrected with the temperature and pressure provides a better reflection of the sediment properties and sedimentary environment.</P>

        The world, coming into the 21st century, is preparing a new revolution called a knowledge-based society after the industrial society. The interest of the world is concentrated on information technology, nano-technology and biotechnology. In particular, the nano-technology of which study was originally started from an alternative for overcoming semiconductor micro-technology. It can be applied to most industry subject such as electronics, information and communication, machinery, chemistry, bioengineering, energy, etc. They are emerging into the technology that can change civilization of human beings. Specially, ultra precision machining is quickly applied to nano-technology in the field of machinery. Lately, with rapid development of electronics industry and optic industry, there are needs for super precision finishing of various core parts required in such related apparatuses. This paper handles stability of a super precision micro cutting machine that is a core unit of such a super precision finisher, and analyzes the results depending on the hinge type and material change, using FEM analysis. By reviewing the stability, it is possible to achieve the effect of basic data collection for unit control and to reduce trials and errors in unit design and manufacturing
